LOUISE K. LEATHERMAN
WESTERNPORT - Louise K. Leatherman, 91, of 109 Cromer St., Westernport, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born Nov. 2, 1906, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late John Kelley and the late Elizabeth (Wilson) Kelley. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leatherman; three brothers, John Kelley, Louis Kelley and Harry Kelley; and two sisters, Ella Newcomb and Mary K. Worgan.

Mrs. Leatherman was a member of the Westernport United Methodist Church and attended the Westernport Senior Citizens. She was retired from Westvaco Corp. having worked in the 6&7 Cutter Room.

Surviving are a son, Charles J. Leatherman and wife Irene, Winchester, Va.; four grandchildren, Anna Kiker, Bowie, Jeffrey Leatherman, Manassas, Va., David Leatherman, Herndon, Va., and James Leatherman, Manassas; nine great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Mary Louise Moorehead of the Moran Manor Nursing Home.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, July 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Westernport United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.

VIRGIL T. KUYKENDALL
PIQUA, Ohio - Virgil T. "Tom" Kuykendall, 71, of Piqua, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at his residence.
Born June 14, 1927, in Hardy County, he was a son of the late Dolph and Jemima (Dove) Kuykendall. He also was preceded in death by two brothers.

Surviving are his wife, Donna (Reiber) Kuykendall, whom he married May 8, 1971; five sons, Curt C. Kuykendall, Thomas M. Kuykendall, Chris J. Kuykendall and Ed D. Kuykendall, all of Piqua, and Greg Kuykendall, Versailles; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Pam) Beam, Conover, Tina M. Kuykendall, Piqua, Mrs. Rick (Connie) Sanders and Mrs. Keith (Sheila) Sanders, both of Bradford; three sisters, Mrs. Bob (Mary Lou) Johnson, Rock Hill, S.C., Mrs. Ben (Jo Ann) Shaver, Chantilly, Va., and Mrs. Randolph (Lemoyne) Wolfe, Moorefield, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A member of the Covington VFW Post 4235 and Covington Eagles 3998, Mr. Kuykendall was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army. He retired in 1992 after 25 years of service at Hobart Manufacturing.

Friends may call at the Elmore-Chambers Funeral Home, Moorefield, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ted Osgood and the Rev. Laurean R. Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in the Olivet cemetery. Moorefield Veterans Honor Guard will conduct militray graveside rites at the cemetery.

MARY M. KOLBERG
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Mary M. Kolberg, 79, of 79 W. Hampshire St., Piedmont, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, at Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, Keyser, where she had been a resident.
Born Oct. 22, 1919, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Walter A. and Kathryn M. (O'Hanley) Fairall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Kolberg, in 1987; three brothers, Donald Fairall, John Fairall, Joe Fairall; and by two sisters, Rose Taylor and Kathryn Lennox.

Mrs. Kolberg was a former employee of the Celanese Fibers Corporation. She was a 1938 graduate of St. Peter's High School. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She was a member of Victory Post Unit #155 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Court Sancta Maria, #485, Catholic Daughters of America, and a member of the St. Peter's Alumni Association.

She is survived by a son, Robert P. Kolberg and wife, Rhonda, McCoole; a daughter, Judith Cline and husband, the Rev. Jerry, Libertytown; a brother, James Fairall, Keyser; four grandchildren, Andy Kolberg, Aaron Kolberg, Adam Kolberg and Jonathan Cline.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. by Father James Hannon. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Victory Post #155 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Heartland of Keyser Memorial Fund.

IRENE LEA HOTTLE
ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Irene Lea Hottle, age 79, of Elk Garden, passed away Thursday, March 19, 1998, at her residence.
Born Aug. 25, 1918, in Maysville, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Isador and Mary (Bosley) Gillaspie. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Emmitt Hottle; and one son, Billy Hottle.

She is survived by two sons, Marshall Hottle, Elk Garden, and Donald Hottle, St. George; three daughters, Margaret Paugh, Pasadena, Md., Donna Hanlin, Elk Garden, and Debbie Padgett, Indian Head, Md.; one brother Calvin Gillaspie, Burlington; two sisters, Eula Carr, Purgitsville, and Nina Rice, Winchester, Va.; nine grandchildren; one step-grandson; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Saturday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, Md.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donald E. Marple officiating.

Interment is in the Kalbaugh cemetery, Elk Garden.

DONALD E. FORD
SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Donald E. Ford, 68, of Short Gap, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 20, 1929, in Doddridge County, he was the son of Audra Gaye (Benedum) Ford, of Salem, and the late Clifford Ray Ford. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Haskins and Annabelle Clevenger.

Mr. Ford was retired from the PPG Industries of Cumberland, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the West Virginia National Guard; the North American Hunting Club; and the Knobley Mountain Properties Hunting Club.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Deloris J. (Matthey) Ford; one daughter, Michelle L. Witt and husband Steven, Short Gap; one son, Michael E. Ford and wife Patricia, Fort Ashby; three sisters, Cliftine Flanagan and husband James, Grove City, Ohio, June Dennison and Delores Gaskins, both of Newberry Springs, Calif.; and four brothers, Clifford Ford Jr. and wife Stella, Wolf Summit, Dean Ford and wife Patty, West Union, Jimmie Ford and wife Hazel, Buckeye Lake, Ohio, and Frank Ford and wife Sharon, Salem.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred F. Parker and the Rev. Darrell S. Tichinel officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

GERALD L. FRANCIS
KEYSER, W.Va. - Gerald L. Francis, 65, of 298 S. Water St., Keyser, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Oct. 11, 1933, at Westernport, Md., he was the son of the late Frank and Lola (Phillips) Francis. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Simpson.

Mr. Francis was a retired millwright, having worked at Westvaco. He attended the Church of the Assumption, Keyser. He was a member and past commander of Victory Post 155 American Legion, Westernport. He was a member of Queens Point VFW 6775, McCoole, Md.

Surviving are his wife, Martha (Macomber) Francis; two sons, Donald A. Francis, Kissimmee, Fla., and David R. Francis, Bethesda, Md.; two stepdaughters, Lori Paugh, Elk Garden, and Dr. Marnie Marker, Gainesville, Fla.; two sisters, Rosemary Tichnell and Cindy Leatherman, both of New Creek; two grandchildren, Rebecca Francis and Chelsea Paugh.

At Mr. Francis' request, a private family service will be held, and he will be cremated. His cremains will be interred in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

The Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, is in charge of arrangements.

FRIEDA A. FRANKLAND
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Funeral services for Frieda A. (Goff) Frankland, 84, were held at Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, on Sept. 16 with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating.
Born Feb. 4, 1914, in Terra Alta, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Leonard H. and Myrtle (Weaver) Goff. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin "Bennie;" two sons, Donald and Jack; a grandson; three brothers, Cecil, Ted and Willis and two sisters, Toleda Friend and Pearl Long.

Mrs. Frankland was a member of Fort Ashby United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women's Society for over 50 years. She was a nurse at Cumberland Memorial Hospital for several years prior to her retirement.

Surviving are a half-brother, Roy Goff, Buckhannon, W.Va.; a half-sister, Lucille Everhart, Kingwood, W.Va.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Burial was held in Fort Ashby cemetery.

JOHN G. FREELAND
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John George Freeland, 88, of Route 4, Box 288, Martinsburg, formerly of 140 Potomac Drive, Keyser, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at his residence.
Born Oct. 28, 1909, in Mineral County, he was a son of the late George Henry and Prim (Davis) Freeland. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Sue Michael, on March 21, 1993; and a sister, Pauline Turner.

Mr. Freeland was a technician with the West Virginia State Police Radio Division, with 20 years of service. He was a member of the Romney United Methodist Church. He also taught electronics at the West Virginia School for the Blind, Romney. He built and was responsible for Radio Station WJGF, the first broadcast station at the blind school. He taught at the Mineral County Vo-Tech Center as well.

Mr. Freeland served as Romney town councilman for several years and served a term as acting mayor for the town of Romney. He was a 50-year member of Clinton Lodge 86 AF & AM, Romney. He was a licensed private pilot and amateur ham radio operator since 1930, using the call letters W8GSN.

Surviving are his wife, Mary R. (Roberts) Freeland; one son, Thomas Freeland and wife Eunice, Inwood; one daughter, JoAnn Parker and husband Roger, Shepherdstown; one sister, Orpha Poe, Ravenswood; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jay West officiating.

Interment will be in the Indian Mound cemetery, Romney.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.
