JOHN E. GROSS
PAW PAW, W.Va. - John Edwin Gross, 74, of Paw Paw, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, at Fort Howard Veterans Hospital, Baltimore.
Born April 23, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Eugene H. Gross and the late Marion J. (Cunningham) Gross. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Eugenia C. Knott; and a brother, Joseph A. Gross.
Mr. Gross retired from CSX Railroad as Chief Train Dispatcher of the Cumberland Division with 45 years of dedicated service. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. In World War II, he served in Northern France and Central Europe. He was a member of Clifford B. Sisler Post 9451 VFW in Oldtown. He was a life-long member and past commander of the Harley Bohrer Post 128 American Legion, Paw Paw. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he was a life member of NRA.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda K. (Yommer) Gross; one son, J.D. Gross and wife Shirley, Fort Ashby; one daughter, Kathy A. Gross, Winchester, Va.; and two grandsons, Patrick A. Gross and David Hunter Gross, both of Fort Ashby.
At Mr. Gross' request, he was cremated at the Cumberland Crematory. Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Paw Paw Christian Center, Box 456, Paw Paw, WV 25434 c/o Mrs. Karen Spencer.
Arrangements have been made by the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland.
NORMAN L. FRIEND
JEFFERSON, Ohio - Norman L. Friend, 67, of W. Erie St., Jefferson, died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at his residence.
Born Feb. 26, 1930, in Hazelton, W.Va., he was a son of the late Herman and Grace (Chidester) Friend. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Wade Friend.
Mr. Friend was a truck driver for Blair Cartage for 13 years, retiring in 1996. He previously owned and operated Friend Construction from 1968 to 1987 in Concord Township. He was an avid pilot, belonging to the former Buckeye Flyers Club, and he enjoyed boating.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann (Williams) Friend, whom he married
on June 10, 1952; a daughter, Jennifer A. Abdel-Jalil, Amman, Jordan; a sister, Thelma R. Friend, Oakland, Md.; and his twin sister, Norma G. Sparber, Clearwater, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Friendsville, Md., on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Blooming Rose cemetery on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Milliren officiating. Interment will follow.

L. WAYNE FUNKHOUSER
KEYSER, W.Va. - The Rev. L. Wayne Funkhouser, 73, of Route 4, Box 198, Stony Run Road, Keyser, died Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Jan. 20, 1925, at Luke, Md., he was a son of the late Walter Joseph and Martha Mary (Whitacre) Funkhouser. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Stanley Funkhouser; and one sister, Maxine Funkhouser.
Rev. Funkhouser retired from the Westvaco Corp. as a supervisor in the eight and nine calendar rooms. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly, Keyser.
He began his ministry in Lonaconing, Md., at the Bethel Holiness Church in 1963. He became Pastor of Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly in 1978 and served until his retirement in February 1998. He currently was serving as an Assistant Conference Superintendent of the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church and formerly served as Missions Director for the conference.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine E. (Harvey) Funkhouser; one daughter, Donna G. Leatherman and husband Randy, New Creek; one son, David Wayne Funkhouser and wife Anita, Keyser; four sisters, Margaret Kidwell, Keyser, Lovene Elliott, Luke, Pauline Hesse and Jean Weimer, both of Keyser; four grandchildren, Randy G. Leatherman II, Joshua L. Leatherman, Daniel S. Leatherman, and David Wayne Funkhouser II; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Assembly on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Wesley Potter, the Rev. Wesley Russ, and the Rev. Earl Williams officiating. Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
The body will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.

HEATH ODELL KLINE
KIRBY, W.Va. - Heath Odell Kline, age 16, of Kirby, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident in Kirby.
He was born Oct. 11, 1982, in Winchester, Va., a son of H. Andrew Kline and Peggy B. Billmeyer Kline.
He was a sophomore at Hampshire High School, Romney. He was a member of the Hampshire High Trojan Football Squad.
In addition to his parents he is survived by a brother, Adam Shayne Kline, Kirby; paternal grandmother, Elfreda Berryman, Augusta; maternal grandmother, Pauline Sprague, Parkersburg; and maternal grandfather, Wayne Billmeyer, Martinsburg.
Friends will be received at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Monday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steve Davis officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dan Rexrode, Shane Amburgey, Calvin Riggleman, Mark Rexrode, Josh Colebank and Ben Townsend.
FLOYD G. HOUSEHOLDER
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Floyd G. Householder, 61, of Carpendale, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born June 6, 1937, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Grayson O. and Violet V. (Saville) Householder. He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Casey Householder; and one brother, Billy Householder.
Mr. Householder was a retired member of Carpenters Local 1024 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Holy Cross United Methodist Church, Carpendale.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Householder; three brothers, Gary O. Householder, Cumberland, Ronald E. Householder and wife JoAnn, Germantown, Md., and Francis D. Householder and wife Gladys, Springfield; one sister, Virginia Lee Rice and husband Leonard, Cumberland; numerous nieces and nephews; and a pet dog "Sammy."
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harry Burchell Jr. officiating.
Pallbearers will be members of Carpenters Local 1024 Ken Fike, Dale Crabtree, Ron Shealey, Dale Cardwell, Stanley Taylor and Ashby Lawrence.
JACK L. GABLE
SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Jack L. Gable, 66, of Knobley Road, Short Gap, died Sunday, June 14, 1998, at his residence.
Born Oct. 11, 1931, at Parsons, he was a son of Vera (Lough) Gable Johnson, of Las Vegas, Nev., and the late Joseph Gable.
Mr. Gable was a retired operations supervisor with more than 30 years of service with Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mill Creek Country Club.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Deloris M. (Reel) Gable; two sons, Anthony Gable and wife Lee Ann, Fayetteville, Ga., and Brian Gable, Hagerstown, Md.; one daughter, Lisa Jamison and husband Arthur, Hot Springs, Ark.; two sisters, Judith DePascale, Ashtabula, Ohio, and Susan Marshall, Las Vegas; and three grandchildren, Meagan Jamison, Michael Jamison and Aaron Gable.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
