LORETTA R. JOHNSON
KEYSER, W.Va. - Loretta R. Johnson, 88, of 281 St. Cloud St., Keyser, died on Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Oct. 17, 1909, in Franklin, Md., she was the daughter of the late Thomas P. and Bridget A. (Cuff) Murphy. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn H. Johnson, on Jan. 4, 1985.
Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of St. Peters School, Westernport. She was a member of the Church of Assmption, Keyser, V.F.W. Post #3518 Nancy Hanks Ladies Auxiliary, Keyser, and the Mineral County Senior Citizens.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of Assumption, Keyser, on Thursday, July 23, 1998, at 10 a.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
Christian Wake Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
HARRIET E. GONSER
PAW PAW, W.Va. - Harriet Edith Gonser, 81, of Paw Paw, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at the Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born March 9, 1916, in Pagosa Springs, Col., she was the daughter of the late Harry Kinghorn and Gertrude (McGuire) Kinghorn. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Gonser; one son, William W. Gonser; and one brother, Harry E. Kinghorn.
Mrs. Gonser was a buyer for the food service department with the Navy Exchange Services at the North Island Air Station in San Diego for 32 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Maxcine Rockwell, Paw Paw; and one daughter-in-law, Jolene Gonser, San Diego.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the McKee Funeral Home Chapel, Augusta, with Michael Collins, minister, officiating.

HELEN M. GRAPES
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Helen Margie Grapes, 80, of Romney, formerly of Springfield, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
Born June 10, 1917, in Springfield, she was daughter of the late Arch and Ida Mae (Dyer) Turner. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Haven Roosevelt Grapes; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister; and one half brother.
Surviving are one son, Ronald L. Grapes and wife Ruth, Romney; four daughters, Shirley J. Feller and husband William, Romney, Carol W. Watkins and husband Karl, Mount Savage, Md., Charlotte F. Jones and husband Ray, Green Spring; and Bonnie R. Wilson and husband Stephen, Short Gap; one sister, Audrey McCullough, Cumberland, Md.; one half brother, Allen Wilson, Wardensville; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at the Springfield Hill cemetery, Springfield, on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating.
CHERYL LYNN "CHERI" KANE
KEYSER, W.Va. - Cheryl Lynn "Cheri" Kane, 38, of 1520 Beacon St., Keyser, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, Md.
Born on Sept. 6, 1959, at Keyser, she was a daughter of Virginia (Parish) Stewart of Keyser, and the late Felice Altobello.
Mrs. Kane was employed as a beautician with the Charisma House Beauty Salon for 20 years. She was a 1977 graduate of Keyser High School and was a member of the Church of the Assumption, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Harold Stewart, Keyser; her husband, Robert T. Kane Jr.; two daughters, Misty Kane and Lindsey Kane, both at home; one sister, Vicky Cosner, and husband Eddie, Keyser; father and mother-in law, Robert and JoAnn Kane, Keyser; one niece, Mindy Cosner, Keyser; special family friend, Paz DeMasi, Keyser.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R., officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
RUTH I. KIMBLE
KEYSER, W.Va. - Ruth Irene Kimble, 79, of 60 C St., Keyser, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
Born Jan. 1, 1919, at Kline, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Ezra and Edith (Ward) Kesner. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Leonard Kimble, on April 19, 1994; an infant daughter, Edith Kimble; and a grandson, Shaun Christian Snyder.
Mrs. Kimble was a retired seamstress from the Keyser Garment Factory with 26 years of service. She was a graduate of Franklin High School and was a member of the Keyser Assembly of God Church and served as secretary of the church for more than 20 years. She also was a member and served as National President and Secretary of the Ladies Purple Heart Club.
Surviving are four sons, Don Kimble, Keyser, Dale Kimble and wife Belva, New Creek, Leon Kimble, Piedmont, and Lynn Ray Kimble and wife Linda, Elizabethtown, Pa.; two daughters, Nancy Reel and husband Dale, Rig, and Lois Fink and husband Howard, Moorefield; one sister, Evelyn Mongold, Harrisonburg, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Keyser Assembly of God Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Keenan and the Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
BETTY J. GROVE
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Betty J. Grove, 70, of 24 Jones St., Piedmont, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, at home.
Born May 11, 1928, she was a daughter of the late David F. and Lessie A. (Buckalew) McIntosh. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James T. "Red" Grove. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Grove was a homemaker and was Pentecostal by faith. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Victory Post 155 American Legion, Westernport.
Surviving are one son, Gary L. Grove, at home; two daughters, Rebecca Shugars and husband Dave, Newcomerstown, Ohio, and Diane Grove Parker, Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Brackett officiating.
IRENE D. GULICK
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Irene D. Shepherd Gulick, 78, of Carpendale, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at 11:45 p.m. at the Memorial Hospital Hospice.
Born May 30, 1920, in Baltimore, she was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Heaps; mother, Lula (Barnes) Heaps Pillon; beloved stepfather, Ernest E. Pillon; her first husband, Louis F. Shepherd; second husband, Richard R. Gulick; and two sisters, Elizabeth Heaps and Ruby Heaps.
Mrs. Gulick was a member of Holy Cross United Methodist Church, Carpendale.
Surviving are three sons, Frank Shepherd and wife Carel, Ridgeley, William Shepherd, Ridgeley, and Ray Shepherd, Carpendale; two daughters, Carol Burleson and Shirley Stachowiak and husband Lou, all of Carpendale; a sister, Edith Ambrose, Cumberland; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Friends also will be received on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harry Burchell and the Rev. Paul Dietz officiating.
Interment will follow in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
