PAULINE E. HESSE
KEYSER, W.Va. - Pauline E. Hesse, 70, of 306 S. Water St., Keyser, died Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born May 20, 1927, at Luke, Md., she was a daughter of the late Walter Joseph and Martha Mary (Whitacre) Funkhouser. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Funkhouser and the Rev. L. Wayne Funkhouser; and one sister, Maxine Funkhouser.
Mrs. Hesse was a retired machine operator for Automated Packaging.
Surviving are one son, Harold E. "Bud" Hesse, Fort Ashby; one daughter, Diana L. Hood, Keyser; three sisters, Margaret Kidwell, Keyser, Lovene Elliott, Luke, Md., and Jean Weimer, Keyser; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George R. Loar officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
HAROLD E. KYLES
MATHIAS, W.Va. - Harold Edgar Kyles, 76, of Route 1, Mathias, died Aug. 23, 1998 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va.
Born on July 16, 1922, in Barton, Md., he was the son of the late Charles and Emma G. (Stewart) Kyle. On Dec. 12, 1943, he married
the former Elnora Louise Kilby, who died Jan. 18, 1991. On Oct. 7, 1987, he married
the former Lula Conley, who died Nov. 11, 1993.
He was employed by the Federal Government as an equipment specialist at Fort Belvoir, Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post #189, Barton, and a member of the Barton United Methodist Church.
Mr. Kyles is survived by one son, Dennis Kyles, Norfolk, Va.; seven daughters, Sandra Kyles and Linda Kyles, both of Arlington, Va., Jacqueline Augustine, Alexandria, Va., Delores Pearson, Richmond, Va., Kathy Scott, Stafford, Va., Valerie Hurst, Trenton, N.J., Brenda Kay Spruill, Roper, N.C.; four brothers, Cecil Kyle, Tacoma, Wash., Charles Kyle, Gore, Va., Joseph Kyle and Earl Kyle, both of Barton; three sisters, Emma Mae Watson, Ambridge, Pa., Dorothy Rhodes, Barton, Hazel Lee Spriggs, Chantilly, Va.; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Grandle Funeral Home, Broadway, Va., on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 7 to 8 p.m.
The body will be taken to the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, Md., where friends will be received on Thursday, Aug. 27, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John Park officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to R.M.H. Cancer Center or to Parkersburg Memorial Hospital Hospice.
TAMMY L. HINES
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Tammy Lynn Hines, 28, of Romney, died Friday night, Feb. 6, 1998, as the result of a car accident near Wiley Ford.
Born Jan. 10, 1970, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of Sandra "Sandy" K. (Hartman) Hines, of Romney, and the late Stephen Jackson Hines. She also was preceded in death by her maternal step-grandfather, Marvin G. Cannon; and her paternal grandparents, James and Grace Hines.
Miss Hines was employed as a salesperson for Motor City Toyota in Cumberland.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her maternal grandmother, Willa Livengood, Springfield; one brother, Brian K. Riley and wife Cynthia "Cindy," Fort Ashby; and three nieces, Shyanne, Victoria and Rebekah, and one nephew, Robert, all of Fort Ashby.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Tomlinson officiating.
CONSUELLO V. HOWDYSHELL
WILEY FORD, W.Va. - Consuello "Connie" Virginia Howdyshell, 77, of Wiley Ford, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at her residence.
Born Jan. 4, 1921, in Wiley Ford, she was the daughter of the late James and Ada M. (Kaylor) Miller. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Galen "Phil" Howdyshell, in 1987; one son, Galen G. Howdyshell, in 1957; and one brother, George Miller, in 1969.
Mrs. Howdyshell was a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Holiness Church in Cumberland, Md., and the Cumberland Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are one daughter, Darlene V. Bone and husband Dave, Dover, Fla.; two sons, Derwood K. Hapbell Sr. and wife Barbara, and Eugene Howdyshell and wife Lynn, all of Wiley Ford; one brother, Allen Miller and wife Lillaree, Leesburg, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Hensley and husband Michael, Brandon, Fla., Kayla Bone, Dover, Fla., Linda Hild and husband Melvin, Glen Burnie, Md., Michael Hapbell, Baltimore, Derwood K. Hapbell Jr., Las Vegas, Dawn Logsdon and husband Edward, Cumberland, Darrin Hapbell, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Deann Farrell and husband Fred, Cumberland; three step-grandchildren, David Bone, Jacksonville, Fla., Rodney Bone, Tampa, Fla., and Robin Bolding, Clearwater, Fla.; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Benny R. Brakeall officiating.
VERNIS CARL HIPP
MAYSVILLE, W.Va. - Vernis C. Hipp, age 88, of Maysville, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 1, 1909, at Scherr, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Frank Hipp and Cora (VanMeter) Hipp.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara (Hanlin) Hipp, on Oct. 23, 1958. Also preceding him in death were three brothers, John Hipp, Howard Hipp and Otha Hipp; and three sisters, Edna Evans, Mae Kehrer and Ruth Gough.
Mr. Hipp was a lifelong farmer and timberman. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church at Maysville.
He had been a resident of the Pendleton County Nursing Home in Franklin since Aug. 16, 1979, and transfered to Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg on Sept. 14, 1995.
Surviving are a close friend, Argie Harper Hipp, Whitmer; two sons, Carl Junior Hipp, Petersburg, and Denver Lee Hipp, Shepherdstown; two daughters, Darlene Yvonne Self, Maysville, and Helen Lucille Turner, Cabins; a foster daughter, Suzie Davis, Harman; two sisters, Dorothy Watrous, Las Vegas, Nev., and Nellie Ruby, Joppa; 11 grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon and the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.

SUE JANE KUYKENDALL
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Sue Jane Kuykendall, 79, of Romney, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at the Long Term Care Center, Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
She was born Feb. 25, 1919, in Junction, the daughter of the late Paul Cresap and Nancy (Parker) Harmison. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Sloan Kuykendall, on March 20, 1975; and by one brother, Paul P. Harmison.
Mrs. Kuykendall was retired after teaching over 30 years for the Hampshire County Board of Education.
She was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church. She was a Past Matron of the Romney Chapter #84 Order of the Eastern Star, and was a charter member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Jane Lee McBride, Romney, Mrs. Ann Sloan McDaniel, Charleston; one brother, Richard F. Harmison, Winchester, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Virginia H. Esler, Glenshaw, Pa.; and two granddaughters, Kerri E. McDaniel and Katherine S. McDaniel.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in The Mary Belle Foote Room of the Romney Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Rosemary Lane, Romney.
At Mrs. Kuykendall's request her body was cremated.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, at 2 p.m. at the Romney Presbyterian Church with Dr. John S. Franklin officiating.
A private interment will take place at Indian Mound cemetery, Romney.
