SALLIE C. MORELAND
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Sallie Cornelia Moreland, 91, North Marsham Street, Romney, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, in Hampshire Memorial Hospital.
She was born Oct. 10, 1907, in Higginsville, a daughter of the late Clark Loy and Henrietta Miller Loy. She was predeceased by her husband, Alpha John Moreland, in 1972; one daughter, Reba Moreland; four brothers, Billy Kidwell, Johnnie B. Kidwell, Jay L. Kidwell and Chester Kidwell.

Mrs. Moreland was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren and the Romney Senior Citizens.

She is survived by two sons, Wendell Moreland and wife, Betty, Romney, and Keith Moreland and wife, Mary, Glen Burnie, Md.; four grandsons, Steve Moreland, Romney, Mark Moreland, Charleston, John Moreland, Glen Burnie, and Kenneth Moreland, Glen Burnie; two nephews; three nieces; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Brian Moreland officiating.

Interment will be in the Salem cemetery at Points.

Serving as pallbearers will be Lyle Kidwell, Mark Moreland, Kenneth Moreland, Steve Moreland, John Moreland and Forest Moreland. There will be two honorary pallbearers, Andy Moreland and Aaron Moreland.

THOMAS L. MORGAN
WILEY FORD, W.Va. - Thomas L. Morgan, 71, of Wiley Ford, formerly of Cresaptown, Md., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 15, 1926, in Cumberland, he was the son of Ada (Howsare) Morgan, of LaVale, Md., and the late Albert Morgan Sr. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Alice K. Morgan, in 1995; and one son, Gerald L. Morgan.

Mr. Morgan was a retired bartender at Cresap Tavern. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Cresaptown Eagles.

Surviving are one daughter, Sandy Twigg and husband Tom, Wiley Ford; three sisters, Virginia Schneider and husband Don, LaVale, Mary Keiling and husband Fred, Frostburg, and Nancy Bird, Florida; one brother, Albert Morgan Jr. and wife Rosie, La-Vale; five grandchildren, Jason, Amy and Christopher Twigg, all of Wiley Ford, Tiffany Morgan, Bowling Green, Cumberland, and Kevin Walbert and wife Krista, and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Bradley Walbert, all of Hagerstown.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veteran cemetery at Rocky Gap. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Jason Twigg, Joe Fabbri, Bob Cosner, Sam Blume, Jeff Connor and Jim Iser.

BRITTEN J. MOYERS
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Britten J. Moyers, 81, of Romney, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, at his residence.
He was born on May 25, 1917, near Petersburg, the son of the late John and Fanny Moyers. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Pauline (McDonald) Moyers, in 1977; and one son, Gerald B. Moyers, on Sept. 28, 1994.

He was employed as a mechanic at Pancake Chevrolet, and later retired as Equipment Supervisor from the West Virginia Department of Highways.

He was a World War II U.S. Army Staff Sergeant, having served in the Pacific Theatre.

Survivors include one son, Larry E. Moyers and wife, Bernice, Romney; one granddaughter, Angela K. Long, Winchester, Va.; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Joel M. Porter officiating.

Interment will be in the Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.

JOHN H. MURPHY SR.
KEYSER, W.Va. - John H. Murphy Sr., 84, of 593 W. Piedmont St., Keyser, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 12, 1914, in Swanton, he was the son of the late Thomas R. and Lula M. (Alexander) Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was a retired meat cutter from the Giant Food Stores Inc., Washington, D.C. He was a United Methodist by faith; a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; and a member of the Kelly Mansfield Post 52 American Legion, Piedmont, and the United Food Workers Local 400.

Surviving are his wife, Louise (Wilson) Murphy; one son, John H. Murphy Jr., Swanton, Md.; one daughter, Shirley M. Pomeroy and husband Russell E., Arlington, Va.; and three grandchildren, Jennifer A. Kinkella, Rachel L. Summers and Jason J. Murphy.

Services were conducted at the Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Keyser, on Sunday, June 14, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lester Clifford officiating.

Entombment was in the Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

The Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, was in charge of arrangements.

CHRISTOPHER M. MYERS
KEYSER, W.Va. - Christopher Michael Myers, 35, of Route 5, Keyser, died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Born March 18, 1963, at Keyser, he was a son of Elizabeth "Betty" (Mack) Myers of Keyser and the late Esten C. Myers.

Mr. Myers was employed as a draftsman with Keyser Stainless and Gaylord East. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption, Keyser, and was a 1981 graduate of Keyser High School; a 1983 graduate of Potomac State College; and a 1986 graduate of the West Virginia Institute of Technology.

Surviving in addition to his mother are one daughter, Kyrstin L. Myers, Augusta; one adopted son, Brandon S. Myers, Keyser; two sisters, Kathleen S. Weber and husband Bruce and Karen M. Markle, both of Keyser; one nephew, Joshua Howser; and four nieces, Samantha Howser, Megan Weber, Katie Weber and Ellie Markle.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R., as celebrant.

Interment will be in the St. Thomas cemetery, Keyser.

A Rosary/Prayer Service will be recited at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

CARRIE A. MAGRUDER
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Carrie Alice Magruder, 92, of Carpendale, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at Dawnview Manor Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 27, 1906, in Elkins, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lottie (Cooper) Phares.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Magruder, on Aug. 18, 1994.

Mrs. Magruder had worked in retail sales for Sears and G.C. Murphy.

She was Methodist by faith.

Survivors include one son, Fred Wilson, Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Dee T. Phares, Elkins; and five grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harry L. Burchell Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

VALONTA F. MALICK
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Valonta Frances Malick, 94, of Silver Tree Apartments, Romney, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
She was born July 4, 1904, in Kirby, the daughter of the late John W. Swisher and Louella Allamong Swisher. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Malick, in 1992; and by two brothers, Perky and Roy Swisher. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Malick was a homemaker. She was a member of the Augusta Church of Christ.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at 2 p.m. with Mr. Dennis Morris officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Zion cemetery, Augusta.

RALPH G. MALONE
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Ralph Gordon Malone, 76, of Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 10, 1921, in Alaska, W.Va., he was the son of the late Henry and Sallie E. (Haines) Malone. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Louise "Toots" (Ellifritz) Malone; a son, Roger Malone; nine brothers; and four sisters.

Mr. Malone was a Methodist by faith. He had worked for Morelands Electric for many years and later was a self-employed carpenter. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 6667, Fort Ashby. He enjoyed people and was an avid gardener.

Survivors include a son, Walter G. "Buck" Malone and wife Carol, Keyser; two daughters, Barbara Ellen Kidwell and husband Richard, Short Gap, and Bonnie M. Scully and husband Bill, Short Gap; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Malone, Short Gap; a brother, Jack D. Malone; five sisters, Hazel Kesner, Patience Swisher, Dorothy Posluszny, Edith Brown and Jean Shockey; nine grandchildren, Cliff Malone and wife Deanna, Wayne Malone and wife Nancy, Robin Owens and husband Jerry, Darren Kidwell and wife Kelly, Tim Malone and wife Heidi, Eric Malone and Beverly Hines, Renee Emrick and husband Earl, Brandon Scully and Brittney Scully; and eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Burkett, Cara Seggie, Brittany Owens, Chelsea Malone, Kevin Kidwell, Sarah Kidwell, Jordan Malone and Jared Owens.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark A. Baugh officiating.

Interment will be in the Fort Ashby cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Brandon Scully, Darren Kidwell, Cliff Malone, Wayne Malone, Tim Malone and Eric Malone. Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Moreland.

Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the local Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
