JAMES R. MCELFRESH
WILEY FORD, W.Va. - James R. McElfresh, 102, of Wiley Ford, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at Heartland of Preston County, Kingwood.
Born March 3, 1896, in Marion County, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joshua McElfresh. He also is preceded in death by one brother, George McElfresh. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are his wife, Hanna McElfresh.
There will be a graveside service held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul E. Dietz officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
JENNIE R. MCKENZIE
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Jennie Reed (Duckworth) McKenzie, 78, formerly of Lonaconing, Frostburg, and Cumberland, Md., Ridgeley, and a resident of the Frostburg (Md.) Village Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born March 15, 1919, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Elizabeth (O'Day) Duckworth. She also was preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. McKenzie was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ridgeley, the Ladies Guild Society, and the St. Michael Sodality of Frostburg.
Surviving are her husband, Anthony W. "Dub" McKenzie, Route 1, Box 192B, Ridgeley, WV; two daughters, Martha Elizabeth "Peggy" Chaney, Ridgeley, and Karen Ann Brady and husband James, Ridgeley; a brother, William Duckworth and wife Ann, Pittsburgh; a grandson, George "Rusty" Poland; granddaughters, Annette Klavuhn and husband Ronald, Maria Winebrenner and husband Cliff, Veronica Matthews and husband Gary, Karen Chaney and Jaime M. Brady; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, Md., on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Father Kent Durig as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Vigil services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Jim Brady, Ron Klavuhn, Rusty Poland, Cliff Winebrenner, Gary Matthews and Zac Winebrenner.
VIRGIL D. "BUDDY" MCKENZIE JR.
SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. - Virgil DeSalles "Buddy" McKenzie Jr., 49, of Springfield, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at his residence.
Born Dec. 1, 1948, in Cumberland, he was the son of Virgil DeSalles McKenzie Sr. and Mary E. (Flynn) McKenzie, of Cumberland, Md.
Mr. McKenzie was in the U.S. Army for three years, where he held the rank of sergeant. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Rifle Expert Medal for Marksmanship, an Army Commendation Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He loved fishing and hunting.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Sheila (Oster) McKenzie; four daughters, Tammy McKenzie and Pamela McKenzie, both of Romney, Alyssa McKenzie and Kayla Marie McKenzie, both at home; two sons, Jeremiah McKenzie and Shawn McKenzie, both at home; one sister, Mary T. (McKenzie) Rogers, Winchester, Va.; and six brothers, Ira McKenzie, Patrick McKenzie, John McKenzie, Brian McKenzie, Kevin McKenzie and Mark McKenzie, all of Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from noon to 1 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry A. Eisenhour officiating. Interment will be in the Springfield Hill cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard.

CUMBERLAND - Lena G. Meadows, 95, of Cumberland, formerly of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg.
Born March 3, 1902, in Buckhannon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late W.W. and Katie (Reid) Townsend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Meadows; and one sister, Doris Kebbe.
Mrs. Meadows was a retired nursing assistant. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Hagerstown.
Surviving are one son, Terry A. Bailey, Ridgeley, W.Va.,; one daughter, Marjorie L. Cunningham, Cumberland; one grandson, Mark A. Bailey, Short Gap, W.Va.; three granddaughters, Cheryl L. Hamilton, Cumberland, Donna N. Gray, Cumberland, and Kelly R. Mullin, Cumberland; four sisters, Lora Athey, Keyser, W.Va., Marjorie Markowich, Greenbelt, Mary Hoover, Cumberland, and Gordie Pappas, Buckhannon; and six great-grandchildren, Rick Hamilton, Melissa Hamilton, Margorie Gray, Jessica Mullin, Cory Mullin and Claire Bailey.

GLADYS J. METHENY
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Gladys Josephine Metheny, 80, of Fort Ashby, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at her residence.
Born Aug. 21, 1917, in Harman, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Rocena (Judy) Kisamore. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Metheny Sr.; two sons, Kelly W. Pennington and Donald L. Pennington; four brothers, Frank, Alva, Clarence and Kelly Kisamore; one sister, Bertha White; and one grandson, Steve Pennington.
Mrs. Metheny was retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company. She was a member of the Allegany Baptist Temple, McCoole, Md. She was a resident of Rawlings, Md., for over 50 years and had relocated to the Silver Tree Retirement Center in Fort Ashby in 1995.
She was loved by the many people whose lives she touched, and she will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
Surviving are two daughters, Jean Morgan, and husband, Ray, Dundee, Ill., and Peggy Davis, and husband, William, Romney; four sons, Jim Pennington, and wife, Shirley, Winton, N.C., William Metheny Jr., and wife, Pamela, Centreville, Md., Rodney Metheny, Vinton, Va., and Terry Metheny, and wife, Shirley, Rawlings; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

STERLING L. METHOD
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Presiding Elder Sterling L. Method, 76, of Romney, died Wednesday, April 1, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Center, Martinsburg.
Born March 30, 1922, in Romney, he was the son of the late Chester and Matilda Jane (Coleman) Method. He also was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Elder Method worked for Houser's Hatchery for 32 years. Later he became a Supervisor for the Eastern West Virginia Community Action Agency constructing many local homes. Many people know Elder Method from his local flea market activities.
Elder Method was a member of the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob Inc. He began his church activities as a Deacon, attained rank of Junior Minister, and was ordained and was made a Presiding Elder. He has pastored the missions in Romney, Winchester, Va., and Paw Paw. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army and was a member of the VFW, Wappocomo Post 1101, Romney.
Surviving are his wife, Georgia Mae (Smith) Method; one son, James Method, Romney; two brothers, Theodore Method, Alexandria, Va., and Norvel Method, Chicago; one sister, Mardela Method, Washington, D.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home with Bishop K. Paul Bowers and Advanced Presiding Elder Timmy L. Strait Sr. officiating.
OLIVER W. MICHAELS
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Oliver W. "Ollie" Michaels, 76, of 82 W. Hampshire St., Piedmont, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Jan. 6, 1922, in Westernport, Md., he was the son of the late Wesley S. and Effie (Spiker) Michaels. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Florence Clites, Mary Michaels and Lula Rogers.
Mr. Michaels was retired from the B&O; Railroad with 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; a member of Victory Post 155 American Legion; and a member of Queens Point VFW 6775. He was Pentecostal by faith. He also was an avid hunter.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Rosie (Patterson) Michaels; two brothers, Lonnie Michaels and Luther Michaels, both of Westernport; two sisters, Velma Ross, Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, and Irene Westfall and husband Paul, Westernport; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Schloe officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. Full military honors will be accorded at graveside.
Queens Point VFW will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7 p.m.
