JOHN H. PHILLIPS
KING'S POINT, Fla. - John Howard Phillips, 69, of King's Point, Sun City Center, formerly of Kingwood, W.Va. and Ridgeley, W.Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at his home.
Born Nov. 21, 1927, in Newburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles and Mildred Phillips. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, William and James Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He retired from the Chessie System in 1985, where he was terminal trainmaster in Cumberland, Md. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Kingwood, W.Va., and the following organizations: Order of the Eastern Star, Rowlesburg Chapter 127; Ali Ghan Temple AAONMS, Cumberland, Md.; Masonic Lodge, Rowlesburg Lodge 165; and the American Legion Post 0056.
Surviving are his wife, Lois (Sanders) Phillips; four sons, John, Reedsville, W.Va., James, Kingwood, W.Va., David, Ridgeley, W.Va., and Richard, Addison, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and four sisters, Margaret Kenney, Adaline McGinnis, Kathryn Harriman, and Charline Bolyard.
A memorial service will be held in West Virginia.

DENNIS W. MAGRUDER
RAWLINGS - Dennis Wayne Magruder, 45, of Rawlings, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born March 18, 1952, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of Lucy Mildred (Ayres) Magruder, Barton, and the late Olen E. Magruder. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Magruder.
Mr. Magruder was a member of Rawlings Methodist Church, and was a charter member of Rawlings Volunteer Fire Department. He was previously employed by Cumberland Housing Authority.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his beloved wife, Karen S. (Hartman) Magruder; loving daughters, Melinda Sue Magruder, Rawlings, Melissa Lynn Rohrbaugh, Rawlings, and Michelle Kaye Magruder, at home; two precious grandsons, Austin Michael Sieb and Logan Tyler Rohrbaugh; and two brothers, Donald Magruder and wife Marie, and John Magruder, all of Barton.
Friends will be received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Rawlings Volunteer Fire Department will conduct services at the funeral home on Thursday at 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gary Trail officiating.
Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Mountain View cemetery, Barton.
Pallbearers will be Mike Small, Frank Colangelo, LeRoy Bennett, Rick Jessie, Joe McKenzie, and Vernon Redmond. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Rawlings Volunteer Fire Department.

HAROLD F. MAGRUDER JR.
KEYSER, W.Va. - Harold F. "Butch" Magruder Jr., 54, of Keyser, formerly of Ridgeley, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 15, 1943, in Ridgeley, he was the son of the late Harold F. Magruder Sr. and Edna J. (Eaton) Magruder.
He had worked as a bartender for Gold Star Post No. 6452 VFW, Ridgeley.
Survivors include one sister, Joan Tucker and husband Dale, Carpendale; and one brother, Wayne F. Magruder, Ridgeley.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.
ROBERT W. MARKER
WELLSBURG, W.Va. - Robert W. Marker, 74, of 116 Fourth Street, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center after a short illness.
Mr. Marker was a retired steel worker and an avid outdoorsman.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Giglio and husband Val, Wellsburg, and Donna Smith and husband Larry, Flintstone; three grandsons, Bob Giglio, Mike and Todd Pretko; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Brooke, all of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Services will be held Tuesday in the Reasoner Funeral Home.
FREDA R. MARTIN
KEYSER, W.Va. - Freda R. "Sarge" Martin, 64, of 12 North Main St., Keyser, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born May 21, 1933, in Keyser, she was a daughter of the late James L. Martin and Clora (Leatherman) Martin Fertig. She also was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Blair Martin; a daughter, Amy Shoemaker; and by three brothers.
Miss Martin was retired as a waitress with many local restaurants. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Nancy Hanks Post No. 3518 VFW, Keyser.
Surviving are two brothers, Alston Martin and Earl "Hike" Fertig, both of Keyser; three sisters, Mary F. Arnold, Clara E. Blacka, and Catherine Riggleman, all of Keyser; two grandchildren, Shannon M. Martin and Aaron L. Martin, both of Keyser; two great-grandchildren, Morgan M. Martin and Lacey K. Lambert, both of Keyser; son-in-law Timmy Shoemaker, Augusta; and beloved friends, Rachel and Johnny Shoemaker, Romney.

LEONARD F. MATTINGLY JR.
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Leonard Frank Mattingly Jr., 47, of Pontiac Avenue, Baltimore, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at his residence.
Born Aug. 18, 1949, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Leonard F. Mattingly Sr.
Mr. Mattingly was a chemical operator for FMC for 26 years. He was in the United States Army. His hobby was baseball.
Surviving are his mother, Evelyn Mattingly; his wife, Cheryl A. Mattingly, Pasadena, Md.; one daughter, Allison M. Fisk, Pasadena, Md.; three sisters, Louise Sirna, Front Royal, Va.; Lorrie Ackerman, Short Gap, and Charlotte Smith, Maggie Valley, N.C.; one grandson, Alexander Fisk; five nephews; and three nieces.
Services will be conducted at the McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, 3204 Mountain Road, Pasadena, Md., on Thursday, June 26, 1997, at 7:30 p.m. with the Father Rob EiMattei officiating.

EMMA M. MAYHEW
KEYSER, W.Va. - Emma M. Mayhew, 82, of Rt. 4, Box 155, Stony Run Road, Keyser, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born March 19, 1914 at Parsons, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late George P. and Chloe (Phillips) Myers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur M. Mayhew, on Dec. 9, 1976 and by two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by one stepdaughter, Vera Richards, Cumberland, Md.; two brothers, Randall L. Myers, Thomasville, N.C., and Dale Myers, Grafton, W.Va.; three sisters, Rose M. Hulley, Glassport, Pa.; Betty J. Currant, and Ida V. Myers, both of Weston, W.Va. Several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Herman L. Baliles officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
PRISCILLA M. MAYHEW
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Priscilla Margaret Mayhew, 102, of Romney, died Sunday, July 27, 1997, at the residence of her daughter, Lenora "Polly" Timbrook.
Born March 23, 1895, at Three Churches, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Alexander Monroe and Della Frances (Ely) Barnes. She also was preceded in death by her husband William J. Mayhew in 1951; one daughter, Glenna Mayhew; five brothers, John, Dailey, Thomas, Ervin and Orean Barnes; and one sister, Etha Johnson.
Mrs. Mayhew was a homemaker and a member of the Faith Bible Baptist Church, Capon Bridge, and attended Maranatha Baptist Church, Romney.
Surviving are one son, William A. Mayhew, Austin, Minn.; four daughters, Mrs. Sue Coons, New Prague, Minn., Mrs. Louise Cutlip, Capon Bridge, Mrs. Lenora "Polly" Timbrook, Romney, and Mrs. Olive L. Foster, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Fred L. Cutlip and the Pastor Ed Foster officiating.
