THOMAS E. RUNKLES
THREE CHURCHES, W.Va. - A memorial service for Thomas Eugene Runkles, 49, of Three Churches since 1984, formerly of Baltimore, Md., will be held at the Community Fellowship Church, Points, W.Va., on Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Stotler officiating.
The Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY M. RYAN
AUGUSTA, W.Va. - Mary M. Ryan, 72, of AA Roger's Road, Augusta, formerly of Eckhart, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 1997, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care Unit, Romney.
Born March 16, 1925, in Elkins, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Eliza (Barkley) Shipley. She also was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Glen O. Ryan.

Mrs. Ryan was retired from Frostburg State University's housekeeping department.

Surviving are one brother, Lee Shipley and his wife Joan, Augusta; three sisters, Lorraine Osborne and husband Edgar Wayne, Baltimore, Helen Garland and husband Charles, Capon Bridge, and Sandra Hutchins, Capon Bridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, Md., on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.

Interment will be in Eckhart cemetery, Eckhart, Md.

MAKAYLA A. RINKER
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Makayla Amber Rinker, infant, daughter of Thomas Aaron and Melissa Dawn (Charlton) Rinker, of HC 65, Box 5730, Romney, died Monday, Nov. 17, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
She was born Nov. 17, 1997, in Cumberland.

In addition to her parents, surviving are her maternal grandparents, Jason and Betty Charlton, Romney; maternal great-grandparents, William and Mary Lawson, Romney; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Nancy Rinker, Burlington; and paternal great-grandmother, Erma Rinker, Fort Ashby.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from noon to 2 p.m.

Graveside services will be conducted at the Arnold cemetery, Junction, W.Va., on Thursday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Preston J. Miller officiating.

Interment will follow.

ERIC D. RINKER
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Eric Deneal Rinker, 23, of Romney, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, in Morgantown, due to a motorcycle accident.
Born Jan 8, 1974, in Winchester, Va., he was a son of Michael I. Rinker Sr. and Mary Jo (McDonald) Rinker, Romney.

Eric was a 1992 graduate of Hampshire High School, and was planning graduation from West Virginia University, where he was majoring in political science, in December, 1997. Eric loved the outdoors and athletics.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his fiancee, Jennifer Davis, Springfield; one brother, Michael I. Rinker Jr., Romney; one sister, Andrea R. Rinker, Romney; paternal grandfather, S. I. ``Red" Rinker, Romney; and maternal grandparents, J. Roscoe and Jean (Haines) Tutwiler, Augusta.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Tuesday, May 20, 1997, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 21, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating.

Interment will be in Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Eric D. Rinker Memorial Fund, care of the Bank of Romney, PO Box 876, Romney, WV 26757-0876.

MAMIE R. RIGGLEMAN
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Mamie Rebecca Riggleman, 86, of Romney, died Saturday, June 7, 1997, at the Long Term Care Unit, Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney, where she had been a resident. She formerly lived at 425 Center Ave., Romney.
Born Aug. 25, 1910, in Moorefield, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Lizzie (Snyder) VanFleet. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Lee Riggleman, on July 22, 1971; one grandson, David G. Heavner; one brother; and two sisters.

Mrs. Riggleman was a member of the Baptist Church, The Rocks, Romney.

Surviving are one daughter, Ethel M. Heavner, Romney; four grandchildren, Edward L. Heavner, Romney, Debra L. Divelbliss, Slanesville, Connie M. Corbin, Romney, and Kimberly L. Kidwell, Romney; six great-grandchildren, Todd and Becky Divelbliss, David and Jessica Corbin, Joey and Wesley Kidwell; and one sister, Janie Haines, Moorefield.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Meadows officiating.

Interment will be in the Moyers cemetery, Romney.

ANNA KATHERINE SMITH
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Anna Katherine Smith, 83, of Romney, died Friday, May 2, 1997, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born on March 24, 1914, in Purgitsville, she was the daughter of the late Walter William and Nona Savilla Rudolph (Smith) Sulser. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William Carl Smith; one son, Garry A. Davis; one brother, Walter R. Sulser; and one sister, Anna Virginia Shingleton.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are four sons, Calvin R. Davis, Donald L. Davis, Connie A. Davis, and Larry K. Davis, all of Romney; two daughters, Carole J. Eversole, Romney, and Debra K. Flack, Sapulpa, Okla.; one sister, Dorothy P. Hott, Augusta; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-children.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, 230 E. Main St., Romney, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Romney, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph D. Eversole officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.

BARBARA A. SMITH
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Barbara Anne Harper Smith, of Romney, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at her residence.
Born in Marlinton, she was the daughter of the late Frank R. and Grace (Johnson) Harper.

Mrs. Smith was married to S. Porter Smith on February 2, 1952, and two years later they were transferred from Clay County to Hampshire County. Many Hampshire County children would recognize Barbara as "Miss Smith" because, for over 30 years, she was self-employed with a children's nursery in her home from which she retired in 1993.

For almost 40 years, Mrs. Smith served her community in many ways. She was appointed by the county commission to the Hampshire Development Corporation in 1961 and served as member and secretary of the County Development Authority for several years. Mrs. Smith served as secretary of the Romney Bicentennial Committee in 1962, served on the Hampshire County Committee for the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial, and was responsible for setting up a local museum for each event. She assisted in organizing the Potomac Highlands tourism promotion organization in 1964 and served as a county director for several years.

During the time Mrs. Smith lived in this community, she shared her time, talents and organizational skills. She has been a member and officer of many local organizations including the following: Romney First United Methodist Church, 41 year member of the GFWC of Romney, served as president for two terms, organized and served as chairperson, for 16 years, of the annual Woman's Club Christmas House and wrote, directed, and presented the historic narration "Old Glory" several times locally, as well as the W.Va. Women's Club annual convention; a member of the Pearl S. Buck Foundation which she served as state chairman of the Birthplace Project. She was also president of the Women's Club Eastern District for 2 years and served on the state board and/or council for 22 years.

Mrs. Smith believed she could not have accomplished all this without the love and support of her husband, children, and many friends.

Surviving are her husband, S. Porter Smith, Romney; one son, Gregory P. Smith and wife Michele, Leesburg, Va.; one daughter, Elizabeth C. Smith, Leesburg, Va.; two brothers, Dan and Wayne Harper, Olney, Md.; and two sisters, Sue H. Richardson, Marlinton, and Diane Crane, Romney.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be at the Romney First United Methodist Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Calvin McCutcheon and the Rev. Douglas N. Shepherd officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

There will be a graveside service and interment in the Mountain View cemetery, Marlinton, Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the Barbara Anne Harper Smith Memorial Fund, c/o The Bank of Romney, P.O. Box 876, Romney, WV 26757-0876.
