DONALD F. "PETE" GRANDSTAFF
KEYSER, W.Va. - Donald F. "Pete" Grandstaff, 66, of Keyser died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997 at the Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 28, 1930 at Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Francis Eugene Grandstaff and Gladys M. (Sweitzer) Rhodes. He also was preceded in death by his step-father, Walter P. Rhodes.

Mr. Grandstaff was a retired truck driver for Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Cumberland. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Hill, Pa. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy L. Grubbs, Keyser, and Karen S. Holderby, Burlington, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Joshua Grubbs, Michael Grubbs, Ryan Grubbs, Garrett Grubbs, Allyssa Grubbs, and Carly Holderby.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Triebe officiating.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Mineral County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Farmers and Merchants Bank, 87 North Main Street, Keyser, W.Va. 26726.

RICHARD H. DOMAN
SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. - Richard Harman Doman, 80, of Springfield, died Thursday, July 17, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Center, Martinsburg.
Born August 7, 1916, in Springfield, he was a son of the late Frank and Carrie (Baker) Doman.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora (Doman) Wagoner and Clara (Doman) Gross. Mr. Doman retired from the U.S. Air Force and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are three nephews, Richard K. Wagoner, Ephrata, Pa., John F. Wagoner, Rawlings, Md., and Dr. Gary L. Wagoner, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, 230 East Main St., Romney, on Sunday from noon to 2 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas N. Shepherd officiating.

Interment will be in Indian Mound cemetery, Romney.

LORING L. HINES, SR
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. - Loring L. Hines Sr., 89, a resident of Moorefield and a patient at Nella's Nursing Home, Elkins, departed this life Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 1997, at the nursing home following an extended illness.
Born May 30, 1907, at Moorefield, he was a son of the late John A. and Susan (Bott) Hines. He was married to the former Ruth Funkhouser, who survives in Moorefield.

Also surviving are one son, Loring L. "Pete" Hines Jr., a funeral director and embalmer at the John W. Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home, Elkins; and one sister.

Mr. Hines was a well-known school teacher of Hardy County, and was a member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church.

At the request of the deceased his remains were donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University, Morgantown.

Memorial services will be held at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 9, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce A. Macbeth officiating.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church immediately following the memorial service.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department, 118 Kuykendall St., Moorefield, WV 26836; or the Moorefield Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 653, Moorefield, WV 26836 in memory of Mr. Hines.

The John W. Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

FRANK T. FIKE
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Frank T. Fike, 70, of 2 Woodlawn Avenue, Piedmont, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 30, 1926, in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Samuel K. and Rhoda (Merrill) Fike. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Helen DeWitt; and a brother, Ralph Fike.

Mr. Fike retired from Westvaco Corporation as a Calendar Room operator with 41 years of service. He was a member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren.

He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting voluntarily and serving with the U.S. Marines, 3rd Marine Division in Artillery. When the Korean conflict broke out, he was a member of the Active Reserves, Company D, Cumberland. He and his entire company were called up and he was one of the first eight that left with Company D, 1st Battalion, from San Diego, Calif., for Korea. He served in Korea and was one of the survivors of the Chosin Reservoir, being designated the "Chosin Few."

Mr. Fike was a life member of Kelly Mansfield Post No. 52 American Legion. He served as first vice commander of the Kelly Mansfied Post for many years, and was responsible for the flags that are placed on the streets of Piedmont. This had been his project because Frank was a patriotic man who loved his country.

He was a life member of Queens Point VFW No. 6775, McCoole; a life member of the Disabled American Veterans; and a member of Luke Local U.P.I.U. No. 676.

He also was the former mayor serving two terms in 1967 and 1969, prior to being mayor he served as a councilman for the town of Piedmont.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie (Channell) Fike; one son, Bob Fike and wife Leslie, Piedmont; one daughter, Beverly Kitzmiller and husband Lewis, Barton; one brother, Paul Fike and wife Betty, Arlington, Va.; one sister, Ruth Gift and husband Jim, Westernport; three grandchildren, Brant Kitzmiller and wife Ellen, Cresaptown, Lewis Kitzmiller II, and Ashley Kitzmiller, both of Barton; and one great-grandchild, Abby Lynn.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Queens Point VFW will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Services will be held at the Westernport Church of the Brethren on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ervin Huston and the Rev. Jack Pease officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Philos cemetery, Westernport, where full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by various veterans organizations.

Pallbearers will be Brant Kitzmiller, Lewis Kitzmiller II, Jarold Wilson, James Gift, Kenny Ross, and Bernard Fazenbaker. Honorary pallbearer will be William Hood.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Frank's memory to services which he supported, Rescue Squad, Fire Company, etc., may pick up a memorial card at the funeral home.

FRANCES E. CARL
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Frances E. Carl, 83, of Romney, died Friday, May 16, 1997, at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
Born Oct. 27, 1913, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Merrill Foster and Minnie Pendleton (Perkins) Yeadaker. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Carl Sr., on Dec. 23, 1990.

Mrs. Carl graduated with a degree in nursing from Easton Emergency Hospital, Easton, Md. She was employed as an operating room nurse at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital. She later retired as school nurse having been employed by the Hampshire County Board of Education.

Mrs. Carl was of the Episcopalian faith.

Surviving are three sons, Harold C. Carl II, St. Marys, formerly of Springfield, David L. Carl, Aurora, Ill., and William F. Carl, Romney; seven grandchildren, H. Charles Carl III, Romney, Helen Carl Wells, and Lori Carl Barnhart, both of St. Marys, W. Brandon Carl, Winchester, Va., Ashley Carl, Romney, Matthew Carl, and Jeffrey Carl, both of Ill.; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Calvin McCutcheon officiating.

Interment will be in the Indian Mound cemetery, Romney.

Memorials may be made to the Hampshire County Public Library, 153 West Main St., Romney, WV 26757.

ROBERT J. DUNKIN
AURORA, W.Va. - Robert J. Dunkin, 42, of Aurora, died Monday, April 7, 1997, at his home.
Born Feb. 3, 1955, in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of Harry F. Dunkin, Edgewater, Fla., and the late Marjorie (Shallus) Dunkin. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Jeff Dunkin.

Mr. Dunkin was a coronary care unit nurse at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland, Md. Prior to that, he worked in the hospital emergency room. He was a graduate of California University, California, Pa. Following his graduation, he served in Africa in the U.S. Peace Corps from 1978 to 1980. Returning from Africa, he graduated from the Shadyside Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a former member of the Southern Garrett County Rescue Squad, Oakland, Md., and the Union Ambulance Service, Aurora.

Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Patricia A. (Jackson) Dunkin; one son, Zachariah A. Dunkin, at home; one stepdaughter, Stacey Rae Durso, Lordstown, Ohio; one stepson, Michael J. Tabor, Lordstown, Ohio; one sister, Gale Knox, Midlothian, Va.; two grandchildren, Dominic Durso, Lordstown, Ohio, and Ethan PoPour, Champion, Ohio; and three nephews.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Md., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aurora, on Saturday, April 12, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Connelly officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in the Eglon cemetery, Eglon.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Garrett County Chapter of the Humane Society, care of Ellen Green, Treasurer, 1124 Mary Drive, Oakland, MD 21550; the Garrett County Chapter, American Cancer Society, PO Box 294, Oakland, MD 21550; the Hospice of Garrett County, PO Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550; or the House of Hope, 202 S.
