MARTIN L. GROVES JR.
KEYSER, W.Va. - Martin L. Groves Jr., 80, of HC 72, Box 405, Keyser, died Sunday, May 4, 1997, at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 22, 1917, at Swanton, Md., he was a son of the late Martin L. Groves Sr. and Grace I. (Glotfelty) Groves. He also was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.

Mr. Groves was a retired major with Maryland Division of Correction. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church, Fountain; The Gideons International; Maryland Classified Employees Association; National Rifle Association; and a former member of the Keyser Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife, Beulah V. (Kahl) Groves; two daughters, Margaret Ann Wilcocks and husband Danny E., Springfield, Va., and Carolyn G. Brewer and husband Harlin L., Marriotsville, Md.; four brothers, Gerald Eugene Groves, Herbert H. Groves, Norman S. Groves, all of Keyser, and Warren Calvin Groves, Swanton, Md.; two sisters, Louella K. Garheart, Sykesville, Md., and Virginia Ellen Ricketts, Woodbine, Md.; six grandchildren, Donna, John, Debbie, Ingrid, Duane, and Jason; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating.

Interment will be in the Garrett Memorial Gardens, Oakland, Md.

CURTIS L. HISER
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Curtis L. Hiser, 88, of Petersburg, died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997, at Grant Memorial Hospital.
Born March 28, 1908, at Dorcas, he was a son of the late William F. and Rebecca (Mouse) Hiser. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, the Rev. Carl Hiser and Elton Hiser; and two sisters, Nola Pratt and Dora Brake.

Mr. Hiser was a bookkeeper for Petersburg Oil Co.

He attended St. John's United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II; a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner; a 50-year member of Petersburg Lodge 145 AF & AM; and member of Petersburg Lodge IOOF 408.

Surviving are two sisters, Gail Snyder, Lahmansville, and Carman LeFevre, Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Phillips and the Rev. Richard Longbon officiating.

Burial will be in the Lahmansville cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Petersburg Lodge 145 AF & AM will conduct graveside services. Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454 and American Legion Post 78 will conduct military graveside services.

SARAH D. AVERS
KEYSER, W.Va. - Sarah D. Avers, 87, of 121 Orchard Street, Keyser, died on Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Oct. 27, 1910, in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maud (Wenner) Dennison. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Avers, on July 26, 1975.

Mrs. Avers was a Mineral County Elementary School Teacher. She received her education at Potomac State College and Fairmont State College. She managed the Keyser High School Cafeteria and was a teacher for the Keyser Nursery School at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Alkire Chapter #10 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Preceptor Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Surviving are a son, Carl D. "Denny" Avers, and wife, Nancy, Reston, Va.; and step-granddaughter, Sherry Sparrow.

Friends will be received at the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Matthew L. Riegel officiating.

Interment will be in Queens Point cemetery, Keyser.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The Alkire Chapter #10 O.E.S. will hold memorial services at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.

EDGAR A. ALT
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Edgar Alden Alt, 87, of Fort Ashby, died Thursday, June 12, 1997, at the Dawn View Manor Nursing Home.
Born March 21, 1910, in Landes, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Mary Rebecca (Judy) Alt.

He also was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Grace (Spencer) Alt in 1991; two brothers, Fred Alt and Homer Alt; three sisters, Myrtle Yokum, Goldie Simmons, and Nellie Mason; and one granddaughter, Tammy Logsdon.

Mr. Alt was retired from the W.Va. Highway Administration, where he had been a foreman. He was a member of the Mineral Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, John Alt, Grand Junction, Colo., Fred L. Alt, Wardensville, Donald Alt, Slidell, La., and Forest Alt, Forest, Va.; three daughters, Cornelia "Connie" Reichenbach, Fisher, Ind., Betty L. Logsdon, Fort Ashby, and Carol Logsdon, Keyser; two sisters, Lela Staggs, a resident at Devlin Manor Nursing Home, and Dorothy Niner, a resident at Dawn View Manor Nursing Home; 23 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the Mineral Baptist Church, Route 46, Fort Ashby, on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ross Halbersma officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Mineral Baptist Church cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

RICHARD P. DIDAWICK SR.
BURLINGTON, W.Va. - Richard Paul "Rick" Didawick Sr., 36, of Route 1, Box 90-B, Burlington, died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Chantilly, Va.
Born April 25, 1961, at Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Marjorie F. (Bosley) Didawick, Springfield, and the late Homer Richard "Dick" Didawick.

Mr. Didawick was a construction worker for the Southern Steel Erectors, Inc., Chantilly, Va., and also was a member of Local 616 Laborers Union, Cumberland, Md. He was a former employee of Wampler Longacre, Moorefield.

He was a 1979 graduate of Hampshire High School, Romney. He attended the Bonnieview Apostolic Chapel, Keyser. He also was a former member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department, Springfield.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Rhonda V. (Fertig) Didawick; one daughter, Ramanda Marie "Mandy" Didawick, at home; one son, Richard Paul "Ricky" Didawick Jr., at home; two sisters, Henretta Fields and husband Michael, Green Spring, Judy Dean and husband Ed, Slanesville; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Alice Fertig, Keyser; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and at the Bonnieview Apostolic Chapel on Monday from noon to 2 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Bonnieview Apostolic Chapel on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James Williamson and the Rev. Larry Shrout officiating.

Interment will be in Cabin Run cemetery, Keyser.

BLUCHER F. ALLISON JR.
MOUNT STORM, W.Va. - Blucher F. Allison Jr., 72, of Mount Storm, died Thursday, July 17, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born May 17, 1925, in Chevrolet, Ky., he was the son of Marian K. Allison Rowland and the late Blucher F. Allison Sr. He also was preceded in death by one brother, William Allison; and one son, Michael Allison.

Mr. Allison was a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in mining engineering. He was employed throughout the states of Kentucky and West Virginia. He was the project engineer for Laurel Run Mining and later became superintendent for them. He also supervised the installation of "B" Mine at Mettiki Mines, retiring from there on Jan. 23, 1989. He also was president of KEA Enterprise Inc.

Mr. Allison was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Hancock in Air Group Seven as a tail gunner and navigator on a torpedo bomber. He was a member of the Mount Storm VFW, Abraham Lincoln Post 6735, Mount Storm Lions Club, the USS Hancock Association, Professional Engineers of West Virginia, and the West Virginia Land Surveyors. He and his wife were overseers for the K&A; Campgrounds on the Mount Storm Lake for 20 years. He also was affiliated with the Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Kline Allison; his mother, Marian K. Allison Rowland; one sister, Margaret Gilbert, Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters, Penelope A. Fletcher, Newport News, Va., and Rebekah G. Weber, Ambridge, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Linda Evans, Elk Garden, W.Va.; three sons, Blucher F. Allison III, Jacksonville, Fla., Richard R. Allison, Greensboro, N.C., and Thomas K. Allison, Cumberland, Md.; two stepsons, David B. Kline, Mount Storm, and Stephen H. Kline, Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; five nieces; one nephew; and many friends.

Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Md., on Saturday, July 19, 1997.

Services were held at the Mount Storm United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 20, 1997, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William Anderson and the Rev. Shelba Sisler officiating. Interment was at the Maysville cemetery.

Donations may be sent to the Hospice of Memorial Hospital, Cumberland or the Mount Storm United Methodist Church Building Fund.
