JAMES "ELMER" HOTT
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - James "Elmer" Hott, 74, of Romney, formerly of Fort Ashby, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Oct. 20, 1923, near Springfield, he was the son of the late Homer Jetson Hott and Gertrude (Haines) Hott. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Arvilla (Bazzle) Hott; and one sister, Mary Coleman.
Mr. Hott was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He retired as a foreman from the B&O; Railroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Fort Ashby.
Surviving are two sons, James Hott and wife Earlene, and David Hott, all of Short Gap; one daughter, Nina Swick and husband Danny, Romney; three brothers, Shorty Hott, Springfield, Ira Hott, Green Spring, and Gene Hott, Fort Ashby; two sisters, Irene McKee, Winchester, Va., and Louise Seeders, Fort Ashby; one granddaughter, Jamie Young and husband Dana, Deltona, Fla.; one great-granddaughter, Caroline Young, Deltona, Fla.; and special friend, JoAnn Bosley.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joel Porter, the Rev. Merdith Shryock, the Rev. Fred Parker, and the Rev. Jack Kincaid officiating.

JAMES HOUDERSHELDT
SHORT GAP, W.Va. - James H. Houdersheldt, 76, of Short Gap, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997 at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 20, 1921, in Burlington, W.Va., he was the son of the late John H. and Amanda E. (Lewis) Houdersheldt.
Mr. Houdersheldt was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and retired from the A&P; Supermarket, Cumberland. He was a Protestant by faith, and was a member of the Potomac Valley Outdoor Club.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Loretta (Wolfe) Houdersheldt; one daughter, Gladys M. Houdersheldt, Wiley Ford; two sons, R. Wayne Houdersheldt and wife, Shelia, Ridgeley, Dale J. Houdersheldt and wife, Rita, Keyser, W.Va.; one sister, Ethel A. Hendricks, Carpendale, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Autumn Morlen and husband, Kenny, Matthew, Ezekiel, Angelica, Amber, and Vincent Houdersheldt.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Fr. Kent Durig officiating. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin, Matthew, Ezekiel, Ivan, Thomas, and Carl Houdersheldt.
WILMA L. HYSON
INWOOD, W.Va. - Wilma Lee Hyson, 44, of Inwood, died Sunday, April 13, 1997, in Morgan County.
Born May 4, 1952, at Green Spring, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Clarence T. Seeders, and one uncle, Jennings Kesner.
Miss Hyson was employed by Aker Plastics, Martinsburg. She had previously been employed by DoubleDay Publishers, Berryville, Va., and received two honors for work as a security guard at that establishment.
Surviving are her mother, Marlene C. Hyson, Old Town, Md.; grandmother, Geraldine Seeders, Green Spring, W.Va.; one daughter, Misty Dawn Hyson, Inwood; one brother, Thomas F. Ullery Jr., Romney; two sisters, Roxanne Ward, Romney, and Lena M. Shaffer, Paw Paw; one aunt, Thelma Smith, Cumberland, Md.; and one uncle, Harold "Buck" Hyson, Springfield.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be at the funeral home Thursday, April 17, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Norman Landis officiating.
Pallbearers will be Walter "Sonny" Crabtree, Matthew Crabtree, Andy Crabtree, William Miller, Harold Hyson, and John Payne.
DONALD G. HIGH
KEYSER, W.Va. - Donald G. High, 60, of Route 1, Box 199-F, Keyser, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born July 23, 1937, in Piedmont, he was a son of the late Mervin A. and Margaret Ruth (Mansberry) High. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Glen A. High.
Mr. High retired in 1989 as an instrument technician with the Vista Chemical Company of Baltimore. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and was a 1955 graduate of Piedmont High School. Mr. High was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and the National Guard. He loved all of nature and was an avid wildlife enthusiast.
His surviving family, to whom he was dedicated, are his wife, Marguerite L. (Woodworth) High; two daughters, Ena L. Jerrell and husband J. Raymond, Pasadena, Md., and Julia A. High, Keyser; two brothers, Warren Richard High and wife Jennifer, Keyser, and Michael David High and wife Suzette, Burlington; one sister, Barbara Ann O'Rourke and husband Martin, Fairfax, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

DOLORES A. HIETT
BRANDYWINE, W.Va. - Dolores Anna Hiett, 86, of Brandywine, died Thursday, April 17, 1997, at the Pendleton Nursing Home.
Born May 27, 1910, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine "Kate" (Decker) Busky. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse E. Hiett, in 1963; one son, George Evan Hiett; three brothers; and four sisters.
Mrs. Hiett was employed at Connie Sportswear for 20 years. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Anna L. "Bootie" Crider, Brandywine, Teresa Lorraine "Bubs" McMillan, Oldtown, Joan Kaylene Root, Sheperdstown, Dolores Ann "Toots" Vandevander, Franklin; three sons, Rodney Leo Hiett, Falling Waters, Charles Edward Hiett, Brandywine, and Stephen Nelson Hiett, Sugar Grove; 36 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin, Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cumberland, Monday at noon with Father James Creeden as celebrant.
MARY R. HICKS
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Mary Rose Hicks, 50, of Romney, died Friday, March 21, 1997, at her residence.
Born Feb. 21, 1947, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late John I. and Rose Bell (Fretwell) Pancake. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Hicks Jr., on May 4, 1991.
Mrs. Hicks was an elementary school teacher at the West Virginia School for the Blind, Romney. She received her BA degree in elementary education from Shepherd College in December 1992, and her Masters of Arts degree in education from the University of Alabama in December 1996.
She was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church and attended St. Luke Chapel. She also was a member of the Hampshire County Arts Council; Hampshire County Historical Society; General Federation of Women's Club; Hampshire County Farm Bureau; and Ducks Unlimited. Surviving are three sons, William E. Hicks III, John Jacob Hicks and Jason Inskeep, all of Romney; three brothers, Joseph S. Pancake and John W. Pancake, both of Romney, and Richard W. Pancake, Staunton, Va.; and one sister, Betty Jeanne Williams, Old Fields.
A memorial service will be held in the auditorium of the West Virginia School for the Blind on Saturday, March 29, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. John S. Franklin officiating, assisted by Major James Hipps.
Memorials may take the form of donations to the Mary Rose Hicks Memorial Fund in care of the Bank of Romney, P.O. Box 876, Romney, WV 26757, which will be used for the Playground Project at the West Virginia School for the Blind.
Memorials also may be made to the Hampshire County Public Library, Romney, WV 26757. The Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, is in charge of arrangements.
TEXIE LEONA HELMICK
KEYSER, W.Va. - Texie Leona Helmick, 92, of Route 2, Keyser, died Friday, May 16, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 27, 1904, in New Creek, she was the daughter of the late John William and Luessa (Flanagan) Crossland.
She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Mathias Helmick; one daughter, Lula Elizabeth Fogel; and two brothers, Ernest Crossland, and Hubert Crossland.
Mrs. Helmick was a member of Maple Springs Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are one daughter, Grace Leona Wotring, who resided with her mother; two sons, Charles Hubert Helmick, Fayetteville, N.C., and Chester Clay Helmick, Gray, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Nellie Crossland, Davis, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Maple Springs Church of the Brethren on Monday, May 19, 1997, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. J. Roger Fike officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to services.
Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Helmick, Douglas Helmick, Derek Helmick, Rodney Helmick, Harold Pennington, and Dale Chase. Ronnie Kimble will be an honorary pallbearer.
