RONALD T. HARRIS
GREENSPRING, W.Va. - Ronald Thomas Harris, 57, of Greenspring, formerly of Frostburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at his residence.
Born June 17, 1940, in Frostburg, he was the son of Thelma V. (Sweitzer) Harris, Frostburg, and the late Thomas H. "Tuck" Harris.

Mr. Harris retired as a staff development engineer from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company after 34 years of service and was a former employee of Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He served six years in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban missile crisis. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Frostburg and was the recipient of the Boy Scout's Pro Deo et Patria award. He played rhythm guitar and was lead singer for several local bands including Georges Creek Revision, The Knieriem Band, and The Ed Harshman Band.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 26 years, Vivian (Mallow) Harris, Greenspring; four sons, David Wayne Harris and wife, Stephanie, Springfield, W.Va., P. David Sell, Germantown, Donald Sell, Hagerstown, and Christopher Sell and wife, Dalfa, Charleston, W.Va.; two daughters, Patricia L. Mears and husband, Joe, Rockville, and Tracy L. Watkins and husband, Mark, Grantsville; one sister, Sue Ann Harden and husband John, Piney Mountain Road; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Esther Kuhre officiating.

Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by Farrady Post #24 American Legion Honor Guard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Sell, Donald Sell, Dave Sell, Charles Lease, Mark Watkins, Fran Footen and Joe Mears. Honorary pallbearer will be Steve Harden.

MARY FAYE LIKINS
BURLINGTON, W.Va. - Mary Faye Likins, 69, of Box 73, Burlington, died Tuesday, May 6, 1997, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, Keyser.
Born Aug. 31, 1927, at Wardensville, she was a daughter of the late Robert E. Reed and Mary Elizabeth (Willis) Reed Allamong.

Mrs. Likins was a former employee of the Hampshire Memorial Hospital dietary department. She was a member of the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren, New Creek; Womens Fellowship; and the adult choir. She served on the District Board of the Brethren Church. She was an Election Board poll worker. She was a child care provider before her illness.

Surviving are her husband, William Blaine Likins Sr.; one son, William Blaine Likins Jr., Romney; three daughters, Dianne F. Westrom, Burlington, Kathy G. Brant, Cresaptown, Md., and Nancy L. Moore, Cincinnati, Ohio; three brothers, Wilbur Reed, Winchester, Va., Garland Reed, Yucca Valley, Calif., and Donald Reed, Copper Cove, Texas; two sisters, Madeline Fiorito, Phoenicia, N.Y., and Hilda L. Redding, Huntington Beach, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Herman L. Baliles officiating.

Interment will be in the Lahmansville cemetery, Lahmansville.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren Building Fund, HC 75, Box 16, New Creek, WV 26743.

ANNA T. HARTMAN
KEYSER, W.Va. - Anna T. Hartman, 89, of Route 4, Box 291, Carroll Ave., Keyser, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, Keyser.
Born Aug. 7, 1907, at Sophia, Bulgaria, she was the daughter of the late Trifon G. and Vasila T. (Vikileva) Tzitzoff. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ray R. Hartman, in 1984; and three sisters.

Mrs. Hartman was raised in the Eastern Orthodox Church. She retired with 41 years service with the Celanese Amcelle Plant in the bobbin department. She was a member of Pleasant Lodge 6081, Woodmen of the World, Keyser; Chapter 191, Women of the Moose, Keyser; and the AARP.

Surviving are one niece, Virginia Ballew, Chandler, Ariz.; one grandnephew, Ron Grooms, Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandnieces, Lucille Grooms, Boise, Ida., and Carol Zellmer, Vancouver, Wash.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Interment will take place on Friday at the Queens Point cemetery, Keyser.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 2, 1997, at 11 a.m. at the Queens Point cemetery.

HAROLD C. EFFLAND
KEYSER, W.Va. - Harold C. Effland, 72, of 477 St. Cloud St., Keyser, retired editor of the Mineral Daily News-Tribune in Keyser for nearly 27 years, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Feb. 25, 1925, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was a son of the late Alonzo J. and Winona (Tyler) Effland. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret E. (Smith) Effland, on August 2, 1993.

Mr. Effland's career as a West Virginia newspaperman spanned a period of 37 years. He was employed over ten years with the Preston County Journal in Kingwood, W.Va., of which the last six years he served as associate editor. He was employed with the Mineral Dailey News-Tribune in 1960 as editor and sports editor until his retirement in 1987.

He was a 1943 graduate of Keyser High School; 1948 graduate of Potomac State College; and graduated in 1951 from West Virginia University with a B.S. degree in Journalism. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Army Medical Corps.

Twice elected to the Mineral County Board of Education, he served as that body's president for six years. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church; the Administrative Board and Finance Committee of the church; United Methodist Men and served as former member and chairperson of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. A 36 year member of the Keyser Volunteer Fire Department, he served as corresponding secretary and chaplain. He was a member of the West Virginia State Fireman's Association and the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Fireman's Association.

Mr. Effland was very active in the Keyser Lions Club, being a member for 36 years. He served the club as past president and was bulletin editor for over 20 years. He served on four district governor's cabinets and was a Key Member of the Lions Club.

He served as past president of the West Virginia United Press International Editor's Association and the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism Alumni Association at West Virginia University. He was a member of the West Virginia University Alumni Association, the Potomac State College Alumni Association and the Potomac Valley Chapter, WVU Alumni and Friends. He also was a former member of the National Sportswriters and Sportcasters Association and the West Virginia University Mountaineer Athletic Club. He was inducted into the Potomac State College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989 and into the Keyser High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. Mr. Effland was instrumental in serving on the organizing committee of the Keyser Chapter of the American Field Service in 1966. He also was a member of Lodge No. 662, L.O.O.M., Keyser, and Boyce-Houser Post No. 41, American Legion, Keyser.

Surviving are two daughters, Kerry L. Myers and husband Tim, Beckley, Ann W. Liston and husband Gary, Keyser; stepmother, Beulah M. Effland, Millersville, Md.; half-sister Carol Aversa, Millersville, Md.; four grandchildren, Patrick Myers, Beckley, Lori Myers, Beckley, Kerri Liston, Keyser, and Jennifer Liston, Keyser.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Sue Culbertson Jarrett and the Rev. David R. Peters officiating.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

The Keyser Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to either the Keyser High School Extended Gymnasium Fund, c/o American Trust Bank, P.O. Box 878, Keyser, WV 26726, or to the Grace United Methodist Church Music Fund, P.O. Box 40, Keyser, WV 26726.

MARY VIRGINIA NESTOR HARTMAN
ELKINS, W.Va. - One of Randolph County's most beloved citizens, Mary Virginia Nestor Hartman, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997. A resident of Colonial Place, Mary had always been a dedicated leader in church, community and civic activities, and was a well-known Democrat who participated in politics at the local, state and national level.
Mary had a keen interest in the Mountain State Forest Festival. Throughout the years she served in many capacities including Director of the Queen's Department, member of the Board of Directors, and served on many different committees. She was instrumental in chartering the West Virginia State Fiddle and Banjo Contest and in reinstating Woodley the Elf.

She served as Director of the Randolph County Emergency Medical Services for many years. During her tenure, she served on the local Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council and the state Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council, a position she held at the time of her death. Mary and her husband, the late James A. Hartman, owned and operated Hartman's Flower Shoppe of Elkins. She was born June 27, 1920, in Tucker County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Wade W. and Dama Skidmore Nestor. She attended the Randolph County Schools and was a graduate of Strayer Business College at Washington, D.C.

Her family includes two daughters and sons-in-law, Dee and Roy White, and Lorrayne and Russell Corley, both of Elkins, three loving grandchildren, Jim Corley, stationed with the United States Army at Fort Myer, Virginia, and who is a member of "The Old Guard," Craig Corley, a student at Elkins High School, and Elizabeth White, a student at the Elkins Middle School; her sister, Geneva Lewis, Cumberland; and very special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hartman; one son, Jim Henry Hartman; three brothers, Hugh, Huett, and Vance Nestor; and one sister, Sylvia Huff.

The family will receive friends at Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, from 4 to 9 p.m. The celebration of Mary's life will be held at her church, the First United Methodist Church, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley will officiate, and interment will follow at the Maplewood cemetery at Elkins. The Lohr-Barb-Vance Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

GLADYS M. LOGSDON
PATTERSON CREEK, W.Va. - Gladys M. Logsdon, 94, of Patterson Creek, died Saturday, April 26, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 12, 1902, in Patterson Creek, she was the daughter of the late John H. Long and Effie (Dorman) Long. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Logsdon, in 1985; two daughters, Marion Logsdon and Georgie Logsdon; two sisters, Nellie (Long) Hershberger and Edith (Long) Lechliter; five brothers, Ralph Long, Robert Long, Arthur Long, Herman Long, and Wendell Long; and one granddaughter, Tammy Lou Logsdon.

Mrs. Logsdon was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Patterson Creek, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women.

Surviving are three sons, G. Wayne Logsdon and wife Betty, Ladiesburg, Md., John Logsdon and wife Betty, Fort Ashby, and Gary B. Logsdon and wife Carol, Route 2, Keyser; one daughter, Marjorie Brookshire and husband Jack, Bowie, Md.; one sister, Era Sherman, Frederick, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Long, Fort Ashby, and Nellie Long, Short Gap; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Delbert Poling and the Rev. Mary Lou Daniels officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Randy Logsdon, Steven Logsdon, Dan Logsdon, Mike Logsdon, Andy Logsdon, Jeff Logsdon, Tony Logsdon, and Alan Logsdon.
