JOSEPH W. KEEFE JR.
BRADENTON, Fla. - Joseph W. Keefe Jr., 78, of Bradenton, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, at home.
Born in Jenningston, W.Va., Mr. Keefe moved to Bradenton in 1980. He retired from the Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Cumberland, Md., after 23 years of service. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He was a member of the American Legion Post 13, Cumberland. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 984th Air Engineer Squadron and 566th Air Service.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn; two daughters, Jane A. Prytherch and Mary U. Aylor; two step daughters, Bonnie Jean Michael and Kathy Lynn Wood; two sons, Joseph W. Keefe III and Thomas P. Keefe; two sisters, Ruth Grimm and Gleavic Knecht; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at the Grantsville cemetery on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. with the American Legion Post 13 doing an honor guard service.
JOSEPH J. KADY
KEYSER, W.Va. - Joseph J. Kady, 84, of 335 South E Street, Keyser, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 13, 1913, in Keyser, he was the son of the late William B. and Regina (Dorsey) Kady.
Mr. Kady was a retired national sales manager for the British Petroleum Co. (SOHIO). He was Keyser city judge and a former Keyser city councilman.
He was a member of the Church of the Assumption; charter member and past Grand Knight of Assumption Council 10545, Knights of Columbus; member of Chief Justice Assembly, Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus; and member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 662.
Surviving are his wife, Mary P. (Meadows) Kady; one son, Patrick Joseph Kady and wife Annette M., Brentwood, Calif.; one daughter, Mary Jo Ana Demme and husband Anthony F., West Covina, Calif.; five grandchildren, Anthony F. Demme Jr., Karen M. Demme, Shelly A. Demme, Meghan M. Kady and Shannon M. Kady; and one sister, Elenora K. McHenry and husband James L., Keyser.
Friends will be received at the Markwood-McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R., officiating.
A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 7 p.m.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, or to the donor's favorite charity.
MYRTLE I. LEASE
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Myrtle Irene (Wagoner) Lease, 82, of Fort Ashby, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at Dawn View Manor, Fort Ashby.
Born Oct. 28, 1915, in Springfield, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Claire E. Wagoner and Martha E. (Garland) Wagoner. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George W. Lease, on Nov. 6, 1974; two daughters, Leona F. Lease, Jan. 23, 1940, and Dorothy E. Lease, Oct. 10, 1945; two sisters, Helen Whetzel and Marie Seeders; five brothers, Lee, Harry, Claude, Jesse, and Lawrence Wagoner; one daughter-in-law, Bernice E. Lease; and one son-in-law, Albert L. Coker.
Mrs. Lease was a homemaker and a loving mother of 10 children. She was a member of Trinity UMC of Fort Ashby, and the UMW.
Surviving are three sons, Edward W. Lease, Reston, Va., Ernest A. Lease, Keyser, W.Va., and Vernon J. Lease, Gore, Va.; five daughters, Hazel L. Coker, Cocoa, Fla., Maxine J. Caneco, Staten Island, N.Y., Shirley M. Twigg, Green Spring, W.Va., Barbara J. Presley, San Diego, Calif., and Anna M. Beverlin, Fort Ashby; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Dewey Wagoner, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; and one sister, Mabel Seeders, Carpendale, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Fort Ashby, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted on Friday at 1 p.m. at Trinity UMC with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service for visitation.
Interment will be in the Fort Ashby cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Robert Caneco, Allen Lease, Craig Lease, Edwin Twigg, Kevin Presley, and Todd Beverlin.

CHARLES G. LEATHERMAN
KEYSER, W.Va. - Charles G. Leatherman, 69, of 33 North Water St., Keyser, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at the Hampshire Health Care Center, Romney.
Born July 22, 1928, in Beryl, he was a son of the late Lowell W. and Leona M. (Roberts) Leatherman.
Mr. Leatherman was a retired foreman with Westvaco Corporation. He was a graduate of Keyser High School and attended the Keyser Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his wife, Marylea (Thorn) Leatherman; two sons, the Rev. Charles "Chip" Leatherman, Harrisonburg, Va., and Rodney L. Leatherman, Antioch; one brother, Philip L. Leatherman, Antioch; one sister, Leona Mae Liller, Antioch; six grandchildren, Renae Mitchell, Jennifer Sager, Cheryl Leatherman, Cindi Leatherman, Katie Leatherman, and Jonathan Leatherman; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Sager.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Joyce Petry officiating.

MARY ESTHER LEE
CAPON BRIDGE, W.Va. - Mary Esther Lee, 42, of Capon Bridge, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
Born Oct. 24, 1954, in Charleston, she was the daughter of Marguerite (Maiuri) Jaquay, Columbia, S.C., and the late Joseph Jaquay.
Mrs. Lee worked as a telecommunicator for the West Virginia State Police in Romney. She was a member of the Tearcoat Church of the Brethren. She also was a Certified RESA VIII/IX EMT instructor, a member of the Capon Bridge Volunteer Rescue Squad, Capon Bridge Volunteer Fire Company, and a member of the Capon Bridge Women's Softball Team. She was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan.
Mrs. Lee was married
to Ronald D. Lee on Sept. 9, 1972, in Montgomery.
In addition to her husband and her mother, surviving are one son, Robert M. Lee, Capon Bridge; two daughters, Monica Fisher, Capon Bridge, and Mary Elizabeth Lee, Augusta; two brothers, Joseph "Joey" Jaquay, Rockville, Md., and Robert L. Jaquay, Capon Bridge; three sisters, Katherine Fisher, Boomer, Patricia J. Hinson, Columbia, S.C., Julia A. Traylor, Elyria, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Ashley Shipley, Catherine "Catey" Gilman, and Christopher and Alexander Fisher.
Friends will be received at the Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Tearcoat Church of the Brethren, Augusta, on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ken Dolan officiating.
Pallbearers will be Tony Roksandich, Mike Lee, Evan Oates, Jerry Giffin, Lee Shipley, and Chris Fisher. Honorary pallbearers are members of the West Virginia State Police.

GEORGE L. LEWIS
ROMNEY, W.Va. - George Leonard Lewis, 81, of Poland Hollow Road, Romney, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md., following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 2, 1916, in Romney, he was a son of the late Firman Taylor and Odie M. (Newhouse) Lewis. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Annabelle (Shawen) Lewis, on Feb. 15, 1992; one daughter, Kitty Lewis; three brothers, Raymond, Elwood and Welby Lewis; and one grandson, Thomas Lewis Hardman.
Mr. Lewis was retired from the Department of Natural Resources and was manager at the Sleepy Creek Public Hunting Area in Berkeley County for 20 years.
He served in the U.S. Army in 1931, and during World War II in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose 1371, Romney; and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.
Surviving are three sons, David L. Lewis and wife Fran, Gainsville, Va., Dale L. Lewis and wife Peggy, Jones Springs, W.Va., and William M. Lewis and wife Carla, Jones Springs; one daughter, Becky Hardman and husband Bob, Cedar Falls, Iowa; two sisters, Maybelle J. Warnick, Romney, and Geneva D. Wilson, Cumberland; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
At Mr. Lewis' request his body was cremated. There will be no visitation.
