HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Fern E. Shanholtzer Horner, 84, of Hedgesville, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Ravenwood Nursing Home in Hagerstown.
Born Dec. 8, 1915, in Hampshire County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ernest L. and Blanche Swisher Shanholtzer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Yauncey H. Horner, in 1993.
She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School and Palmer Business School.
She was employed by Maryland Insurance Trust in Baltimore, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Williamsport.
She is survived by a sister, Reba S. Williams of Williamsport; a brother, James B. Shanholtzer of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two nieces and three nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg, W.Va. Pastor W. Gregory Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thomas D. Stephens
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Thomas D. Stephens, 84, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.
Born July 30, 1915, in Downington, Pa., he was the son of the late Thomas Warberton and Florence Harper Stephens.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Leary Stephens, in 1984.
He retired as owner and operator of Stephens-Allan Insurance Agency in Berkeley Springs. Earlier, he worked for Interwoven Mills.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.
He was a member of Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department; member and past master of Deford Masonic Lodge 88 AF & AM; past chairman of the 50th Year Homecoming of Berkeley Springs High School; past chairman of Eastern Panhandle Training Center of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a volunteer of the annual Benefit for Eastern Panhandle Training Center; a member of Berkeley Springs Chapter Order of the Eastern Star 77; and a past member of Bath City Council.
He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Hunsicker of St. Davids, Pa., and Mary M. Smith of Frederick, Md.; two brothers, Earnest Stephens of New Castle, Del., and Joe D. Michael of Berkeley Springs; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John W. Stephens and Fred D. Michael.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St. in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Owen Womack will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery in Berkeley Springs, with services by members of Deford Masonic Lodge 88.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Blaine C. Clingerman Sr.
GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Blaine Carlton Clingerman Sr., 82, of Great Cacapon, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 17, 1917, in Great Cacapon, he was the son of the late William Kenneth and Lottie Loretta Spring Clingerman.
He attended public schools in Paw Paw, W.Va.
He worked for Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown from 1950 to 1960; and for the West Virginia Department of Highways from 1960 to 1964. He retired in May 1980 from Londontown Manufacturing in Hancock after 17 years as a shipping clerk.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, among others.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Great Cacapon.
He was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60 in Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Janesta Josephine Keefer Clingerman; two daughters, Mary Loretta Swain of Hancock and Kimberly Ann Sharp of Highland, Mich.; a son, Blaine Carlton Clingerman Jr. of Great Cacapon; five grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Kenneth Clingerman; a sister, Juanita Bushman; and two brothers, Kermit Clingerman and Kenmore Clingerman.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs. The Revs. Henry L. Fisher and Walter F. Bowers will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Mount Nebo cemetery in Great Cacapon.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 11 a.m.
Waldo M. Tarter
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Waldo Mitchell Tarter, 80, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Nancy, Ky., died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.
Born Sept. 17, 1919, in Cains Store, Ky., he was the son of the late William Hershel and Maude May Roy Tarter.
He attended public schools in Cains Store.
He served in the U.S. Navy, retiring as chief petty officer after 22 years.
He was a member of Somerset Presbyterian Church in Somerset, Ky.
He was a member of VFW Post of Somerset; Naval Fleet Reserve; National Rifle Association; and Scenic Beagle Club of Somerset. He was a qualified master rifleman.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ruth Evelyn Mills Tarter of Berkeley Springs; a daughter, Opal Jean Lemons of South Rockwood, Mich.; two stepsons, Gates Sykes of Berkeley Springs and William Sykes of Marion, Ohio; a sister, Pauline Kondzello of Ecorse, Mich.; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Athea Gossett, Faye Davis and Ilene Bliss; and two brothers, Brutus H. Tarter and Enoch Lee Tarter.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 W. Highway 80, Somerset, Ky. The Rev. Jack Wilhelm will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Mill Springs National cemetery in Nancy.

BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Eleanor Juanita Markle, 71, of Potomac Terrace Apartments, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at her sister's home in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Sept. 17, 1928, in Bolivar, she was the daughter of the late Henry H. and Mabel Gray Ballenger.
She retired from Badger-Powhatan, Ranson.
She was a member of Shenandoah Memorial United Methodist Church, Millerville, W.Va., United Methodist Women, and was chairwoman of the administrative board.
She was a member of AARP; and a member and former secretary of Marine and Ship Builders Workers of America, Baltimore.
She is survived by two sisters, Mildred M. Lanham of Ranson and Aleida M. Haines of Brownsville, Md.; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. James K. Hamrick will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery, Bolivar.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Margaret Tangeman Williams, 74, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born April 16, 1925, in Mount Clare, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Louis B. and Jennie Rogers Tangeman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Williams.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Martinsburg.
She was a member of Eastern Star Lodge in Ravenwood, W.Va.
She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer L. Hedges of Martinsburg and Jeanette L. Stup of Inwood, W.Va.; two brothers, Louis T. Tangeman of Lodi, Calif., and George E. Tangeman of Clarksburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Olive Elaine Benninger; and two brothers, Victor E. Tangeman and Ervin E. Tangeman.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Mike Staubs will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
