Edward O. Scully

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Edward Otis Scully, 84, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at the home of his caregivers in Berkeley Springs.

Born May 28, 1915, in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of the late Edward Leo and Mildred Warren Scully.

His wife, Clara Virginia Butts Scully, died in 1982.

He retired in 1980 from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa., where he worked as an X-ray technician.

A pianist, he performed with The Dorsey Brothers Orchestra and played locally at Maria's Garden and Inn.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Berkeley Baptist Church.

He is survived by five daughters, Lyne Keenan of Berkeley Springs, Dawn Campbell of Inwood, W.Va., Anne Walsh, Dale Scully and Lori Baker, all of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Alan Scully of Berkeley Springs; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandsons; and a cousin.

He was preceded in death by a sister; two brothers, Merton Warren Fraser and Lyndon W. Fraser; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. Pastor George Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs, with military honors by Tri-State Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 9 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Morgan County Public Library, 204 N. Washington St., Berkeley Springs, WV 25411; or to the Building Fund of Berkeley Baptist Church, P.O. Box 72, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

Andrew M. Eader

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Andrew Morgan Eader, 10, of Berkeley Springs, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Md.

Born July 28, 1989, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Linda Ronschell Eader and stepfather Travis Risinger, both of Berkeley Springs.

He was a fourth-grade student at Widmyer Elementary School in Berkeley Springs.

He attended Mahne's United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by maternal grandfather Ronald Eader; maternal stepgrandparents, Donald and Linda Miller of Berkeley Springs; aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. The Revs. Jack and Shirley Hiles will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anna L. Hovermale

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Anna Lou Hovermale, 74, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born April 3, 1925, in Brosius, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John F. and Laura M. Baker Rankin.

Her husband, Chester E. Hovermale, died Aug. 16, 1989.

She attended Mount Wesley School; and was a 1942 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.

She had worked at Tink's Grocery Store in North Berkeley Springs and was a homemaker.

She was of the Evangelical United Brethren faith.

She was a member of Berkeley Chapter 77 Order of the Eastern Star; "Ye Towne of Bath" Chapter NSDAR; Ladies' Auxiliary of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1483, Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post 60 and Risinger-Stotler V.F.W. Post 4019, all in Berkeley Springs; Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 4179 in Martinsburg, W.Va., and Redmen Club in Williamsport.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ann Spielman of Berkeley Springs; one son, Gale E. Hovermale of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Kathryn Eppinger and Iris Jean Duckwall, both of Berkeley Springs; one brother, Herbert R. Rankin of Orange, Va.; four grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Clingerman; and four brothers, William Rankin, Vernon Rankin, Nyle Rankin and Paul Rankin.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Mahnes Chapel cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 2 p.m. An Eastern Star Memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mahnes Chapel cemetery, Route 4, Box 7165, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

Helen Fortney

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Helen Mapp Fortney, 76, of Route 1, Falling Waters, and formerly of 30 W. 6th St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Clearview Nursing Home in Hagerstown.

Born Dec. 17, 1923, in Moss, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Olin and Fannie Mae Lapkin Mapp.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of national and local AARP.

She is survived by two daughters, Lois Decker of Falling Waters and Linda Bollinger of Waynesboro; one son, Olin Fortney of San Diego; three sisters, Betty Williams, Dorothy Walker and Christine Holifield, all of Mississippi; one brother, William Mapp of Indiana; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Daryl Fortney; two sisters, Mary Williams and Claudie Myrick; and one brother, Paul Mapp.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Lochstampfor Funeral Home, South Church and West Second streets, Waynesboro. The Rev. Robert Ridenhour will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion cemetery, Quincy, Pa.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lloyd W. Edwards

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lloyd W. "Huck" Edwards, 69, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.

Born April 16, 1930, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Joseph Wesley and Estelle S. Moore Edwards.

He had retired from Liskey Transfer. He was a truck driver.

He was a veteran of the Marine Corps.

He was a member of Newton D. Baker, Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion. He was also a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Martinsburg Lodge 120.

He is survived by his wife, Connie DeHaven Edwards; three daughters, Gail Dawn Edwards, Melissa Rogers Hite and Brittany Ann Edwards, all of Martinsburg; three sons, Terry Lee Edwards of Ranson, W.Va., Dale Wayne Edwards of Boonsboro and Charles Wesley Edwards of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; three sisters, Betty G. Faircloth of Inwood, W.Va., Wanda Ophelia Edwards of North Carolina, and Shirley Ann Hoffman of Charles Town, W.Va.; a brother, Robert L. Edwards of Gerrardstown; 15 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Johnny Faircloth will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens. Military graveside services will be conducted by Newton D. Baker, Post 896 VFW and Berkeley Post 14 American Legion and Amvets Post 38.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James S. Triggs

RIDGEWAY, W.Va. - James Stewart Triggs, 58, of Ridgeway, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born July 28, 1941, in Winchester, he was the son of Kathleen Sargent Chapman, of Ridgeway, and the late James S. Triggs.

He was a 1959 graduate of Musselman High School.

He was retired from AT&T, where he worked as a systems technician. He recently worked for Ford Communications in Hagerstown.

He was a member of Paynes Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was a volunteer at City Hospital.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Leslie Brown Triggs; four daughters, Sandra Carter of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Barbara Oates of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Sharon Triggs of Stephens City, Va., and Jacqueline Triggs of Ridgeway; a son, Michael Triggs of Winchester; stepfather, Ward Chapman of Ridgeway; one sister, Jean Hott of Ridgeway; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Paynes Chapel cemetery. Following the services, a luncheon will be held at Ridgeway Church Hall.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Khrista Ferguson will officiate.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 1319 Quarrier St., Charleston, WV 25301 or to American Diabetes Association, 11221-A Ohio Avenue, P.O. Box 1115, Dunbar, WV 25064.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, W.Va.
