Susan L. Wise

MORGAN COUNTY, W.Va. - Susan Lois Wise, 63, of the Greenwood Section, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at her home.

Born Dec. 8, 1936, in New York, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Leah Goodman Viscuse.

She graduated from Haverling High School in Bath, N.Y.

She worked as a bookkeeper in her family's business.

She was a homemaker in recent years.

She was a Catholic.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, David Wise; two daughters, Jocelyn A. Riffle of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Trena L. Wise of Falls Church, Va.; four sons, David L. Wise of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Robert S. Wise of Lothian, Md., James C. Wise of Orlando, Fla., and Michael C. Wise of Mountain Home, Idaho; a sister, Elizabeth Schmidt of Stewartstown, Pa.; a brother, Richard Viscuse of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

Harry C. Betz

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Harry Charles Betz, 70, of Tuscawilla Hills, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Feb. 10, 1929, in Queens, N.Y., he was the son of the late John C. and Charlotte Brudi Betz.

His wife, Rita Marie Betz, died April 22, 1998.

He retired from a retail lumber company in Wisconsin. Before that he was service manager for McCarville Ford Dealership in Centereach, Long Island, N.Y.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a Catholic.

He is survived by a daughter, Donna S. Schoepfer of Mount Airy, Md.; a son, Carl W. Betz of Farmingville, N.Y.; two brothers, Thomas Betz of Lake Panamoka, N.Y., and Richard Betz of Bayport, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Betz.

Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd., Charles Town. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert D. Fowler

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Robert D. Fowler, 61, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born March 12, 1938, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Howard and Margaret Haran Fowler.

He was a 1956 graduate of St. Joseph High School.

He was employed by General Motors as an environmental coordinator and maintenance supervisor.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he taught CCD classes.

He was a member of Council 1169 Knights of Columbus, Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of Moose, BPO Elks 778, Big Brothers, Little Springs Hunting Club, and was active in Special Olympics and Martinsburg Little League, where he coached the first state championship team.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Travers Fowler; two daughters, Kimberly A. Triggs of Martinsburg and Tracy J. Fowler at home; a son, Kirk D. Fowler of Martinsburg; a stepdaughter, Carol Ann Stec of Martinsburg; a stepson, Donald M. Walter IV of Winchester, Va.; a sister, Paulette Gorsuch of Huntington Beach, Calif.; three brothers, Philip Fowler of Martinsburg, Gary Fowler of Hollywood, Md., and Bill Allen of Chesterton, Ind.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 336 S. Queen St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John V. Dibacco Jr. will be celebrant. Burial and prayers will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, where a vigil service will be held at 8 p.m.

The family will meet at the funeral home Thursday at 10:30 a.m. before going to the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School Tuition Fund, 336 S. Queen St., Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Rex B. Rathbun

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Rex B. Rathbun, 97, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, in Winchester Medical Center.

Born Oct. 27, 1902, in Fayette County, Iowa, he was the son of the late Herbert R. and Martha E. Burch Rathbun.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Hymer Rathbun.

He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Salem, Mo.

He is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Frances Hunter of Martinsburg and Betty Marie Darden of Salem; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Harford and three sisters, Kizzie Rathbun, Mary Eleanor Clark and Wilma Scholl.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Christopher D. Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Salem.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Timothy W. Taylor

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Timothy Wayne "Timmy" Taylor, 38, of Harpers Ferry Campsites, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at the residence of his brother, Mac Taylor in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Aug. 15, 1961, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of Ann Kodak Taylor of Charles Town, W.Va., and the late Malcolm James Taylor Sr.

He was a 1979 graduate of Jefferson High School, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.

He was a self-employed stone mason in Jefferson County for many years.

He served in the Army with the 1st Infantry Division.

He was a member of Mannings Assembly of God Church, Harpers Ferry.

He is survived by his wife of two years, Sue Ellen Jackson Taylor; two daughters, Brandy Christine Jackson of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Nikomie Taylor at home; one sister, Christine Manning of Shannondale, Harpers Ferry; one brother, Malcolm Taylor Jr. of Ranson; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at Mannings Assembly of God Church, Harpers Ferry. The Rev. James Boyce will officiate. Burial will be private.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mannings Assembly of God Church, Route 4, Box 371, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Brenda L. Baumeister

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Brenda LaDon Baumeister, 60, of Charles Town, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at her home.

Born Dec. 13, 1939, in Cuero, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Walter Boyd and Nettie Mahler Garton.

She was a graduate of Pattie Welden High School in Victoria.

She was a self-employed beautician in Wellsville, N.Y.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, and a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wellsville and Mercy Association.

She also was a member of Lioness Club of Wellsville.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ronald P. Baumeister; five daughters, Donna M. Mortimer, Jesse L. Baumeister and Nicole M. Baumeister, all of Middleway, W.Va., Michelle D. Diaz of Millville, W.Va., and Melanie M. Baumeister of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Michael E. Baumeister of Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Sandra Garton-Breech of Victoria, Texas, and Janet Wise of Port LaVaca, Texas; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 311 S. George St., Charles Town, with the Rev. Brian Owens as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic cemetery in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

Friends will be received at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town, Tuesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the attention of Donation, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Elm and Carrollton Ave., Buffalo, NY 14263.
