MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Max Derwood Bovey, 87, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at City Hospital.
Born Sept. 19, 1912, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Noah Leon Bovey Sr. and Annetta Hedges Bovey.
He was a 1931 graduate of Martinsburg High School. He attended Shepherd College.
He was employed by Fairchild Aircraft for 18 years, and retired from Martin Marietta in 1977.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class.
He was past master of Equality Lodge 44 A.F.&A.M., past high priest of Lebanon Chapter 2 Royal Arch Masons, past commander of Palestine Commandery 2 Knights Templar, past grand commander Knights Templar of West Virginia, past patron of Golden Rule Chapter 69 Order of the Eastern Star, Knights York Cross of Honor, Red Cross of Constantine, Osiris Temple Nobels of the Mystic Shrine, Eastern Panhandle Shrine Club and was a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ethel Wayble Bovey, whom he married
Dec. 4, 1937; one daughter, Sharilyn D. Bovey; two brothers, N. Leon Bovey Jr. of Martinsburg, and Don Victor Bovey of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Mary Ruth Roudabousch of Brunswick, Md., and Frances Fierro of Martinsburg; an aunt; cousins; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Bovey Miller, and two brothers, Samuel Robert Bovey and Bruce Delmar Bovey.
Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. William E. Merki will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Ruby W. Grove
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ruby Ward Grove, 71, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 18, 1928, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Alexander and Mary Hall Ward.
A member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church, she was a former Sunday School and Youth Group teacher and was a member of the choir.
She was a member of Golden Rule Chapter 69 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband, Edward E. Grove; two daughters, Belinda Schiavoni of Winchester, Va., and Tammy Leatherman of Falling Waters, W.Va.; a son, Dennis Grove of Martinsburg; a sister, Jean Pine of Winchester; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl W. Slonaker.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Jerry Mead will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Dale Charles Richards, 74, of 140 Broadview Court, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 16, 1925, in Berwick, Pa., he was the son of the late Dreher and Bertelle Yeager Richards.
He was employed by the Washington County Commissioners, retiring after 20 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He attended Bethel Assembly of God in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Leanna Kauffman Richards; a daughter, Terry Anne Nuttle of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; a son, Raymond Dale Richards of Jackson Hole; a stepdaughter, Sondra Williamson of Hagerstown; a stepson, Guy J. Sentz of Hagerstown; a sister, Elizabeth A. Letchworth of Camp Hill, Pa.; a brother, Dreher Richards of Camp Hill; four grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Terry B. Broadwater will officiate. Burial will be in Norland cemetery in Chambersburg, Pa.

Jarahnia M. Spriggs
GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Jarahnia Magdalene Spriggs, 90, of Great Cacapon, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born Feb. 16, 1909, in Stotlers Crossroads, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late William Paul and Fannie Melvanie Henry Hivick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly Theodore Spriggs, in 1972.
She attended Posey Hollow School in Morgan County, W.Va.
She worked with Aulabaugh's Canning Factory in Hancock, W.Va., and Hepburn Orchards in Hancock. She was a homemaker.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by a daughter, Rose Z. Merica of Great Cacapon; two sons, Raymond V. Spriggs of Roseville, Calif., and Paul T. Spriggs of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; a sister, Nina J. Hivick of Berkeley Springs; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ferdinand P. Hivick, Noah S. Hivick and William M. Hivick.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs. Pastor Steve Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Nebo cemetery in Great Cacapon.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 1 p.m.

Newton S. Greenfield
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Newton Scott Greenfield, 39, of Hedgesville, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 1, 1960, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Ruth Starliper Greenfield of Hedgesville and the late Martin Greenfield.
He was formerly employed by Fairchild Industries.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Kandace Greenfield of Hedgesville; three sisters, Mary R. Mason and Bonnie L. Overholtz, both of Martinsburg, and Judy M. Shatzer of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three brothers, Gary W. Greenfield and Martin Greenfield, both of Martinsburg, and Terry M. Greenfield of Waynesboro, Pa.; a granddaughter; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. William C. Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Elwood A. Holliday Sr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Elwood Alvin Holliday Sr., 77, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 20, 1922, in White Sulpher Spring, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alvin T. and Carrie Whitacre Holliday.
He retired as a bus driver for Mass Transit Association.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Price Holliday of Martinsburg; a son, Elwood Alvin Holliday Jr. of Lake Wales, Fla.; a stepson, Jack Rhudy of Martinsburg; a daughter, Donna Garrett of Baltimore; a stepdaughter, Debbie Arnold of Martinsburg; a sister, Marie Edmonds of Martinsburg; grandchildren and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held later.
