BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Lloyd J. Lutman, 83, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs.
Born Oct. 18, 1916, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late James and Flora Henry Lutman.
He attended New Hope and Mountain Run schools in Morgan County.
He owned and operated his own sawmill, operated Mountain View Orchard Inc. in Berkeley Springs since 1939 and raised leghorn and barred rock chickens.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sleepy Creek, W.Va.
He was a member of Morgan County Farm Bureau, West Virginia Horticultural Society and served on the board of Pleasant Hill cemetery Association. He was a former member of Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association and the Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council 117 in Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Catherine Virginia Kesecker Lutman; two daughters, Janet Marie Lutman of Berkeley Springs and Nancy Louise Hendershot of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a son, Gary Wayne Lutman of Hedgesville; a sister, Ida L. Harden of Berkeley Springs; four granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester L. Lutman and Delmar Lutman.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Sleepy Creek, W.Va. Pastor Daniel L. Wright will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Sleepy Creek.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs, which will be open Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Tuesday at noon at the church. A Junior Order Lodge memorial service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Joseph L. Cox Sr.
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Joseph Leo Cox Sr., 69, of Falling Waters, died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Feb. 18, 1930, in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late James John and Edna Wiolland Cox.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951.
He was a member of St. Leo Roman Catholic Church in Inwood, W.Va.
He was a member of American Legion Post 202 in Williamsport.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Cox; a daughter, Theresa Lynn Tolson of Frederick, Md.; two sons, Joseph Leo Cox Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., and Edward Patrick Cox of Baltimore; five sisters, Mary Ann Jackson of Simi Valley, Calif., Joan D'Amato of Twinsburg, Ohio, Carol Nora Cox of River Forest, Ill., Kathleen Wander of Studio City, Calif., and Marjorie Black of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two brothers, James J. Cox of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Thomas Bruce Cox of Morganton, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Charles Cox.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Leo Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian Shoda will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. A prayer service will be today at 8:30 p.m.

Joseph J. Connolly
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joseph J. Connolly, 59, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 24, 1940, in Camden, N.J., he was the son of the late John and Anne Ferguson Connolly.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the VA Post Chapel. Chaplain Jerry W. Mehaffey will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery.

Mary M. Speg
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Mary Magdalene Speg, 88, of Shepherdstown, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Skilled Nursing Unit Memorial Hospital in Towanda, Pa.
Born April 16, 1911, in Harrisburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late David Bruce and Grace Edith Eshenour March.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William M. Speg, in 1967.
She was a graduate of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pa., attended Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, attended Wharton School of Business and Finance in Philadelphia, and received her master's degree in Education from West Virginia University.
She was a school teacher in Sharpsburg.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown.
She was a life member of Maryland Congress of Parents and Teachers, Maryland Retired Teachers Association, Moler's Cross Roads Extension Club, Historic Shepherdstown Commission and GFWC Shepherdstown Women's Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Irma Helene Henson of Towanda; a son, William B. Speg of Wilmington, Del.; four grandchildren, Meghan Henson, Michael Henson, Valerie Speg and Julie Speg; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Irma Urich, Ruth Elliott, Carrie Thrush, Hazel March and Eunice Snyder, and a brother, Morris March.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. Richard E. Neal will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Shepherdstown.
The family will receive friends Monday at noon at the funeral home.

William C. Brenner
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William C. Brenner, 75, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 23, 1924, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late George P. and Frances Schleuss Brenner Gilbert.
He was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He retired from the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center of Martinsburg; and formerly ran the projector at Apollo Theater.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary O'Leary Brenner; an uncle; and cousins.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale cemetery. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg.
Elizabeth L. Neel
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Elizabeth Love Stipe Neel, 88, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 1, 1911, in Wadesville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry Francis and Blanche Fox Stipe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Neel.
She was employed by the former Perfection Garment Co.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the choir; United Methodist Women; Philathea Class, and played piano.
She was a member of C-CAP; AARP; City Hospital Auxiliary; and Senior Center.
She is survived by a son, Harry T. Neel of Martinsburg; three grandchildren, Richard F. Neel Jr., Elizabeth Ann Neel and Carole Lee Miller.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Richard F. Neel and Beverly Fox Neel; three sisters, Frances S. Patton, Margaret S. Snyder and Marie S. Barr; and a brother, Harry V. Stipe.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. Dr. G. Edward Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Rest cemetery in Frederick County, Va. City Hospital volunteers and auxiliary members will meet at the funeral home Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
