MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Claybourne "Junior" Kirby Jr., 71, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Jan. 8, 1928, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Claybourne and Nella Mae Yowell Kirby Sr.
He retired from General Motors.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Valley View Chapel.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Brooks Kirby; four brothers, Walter Calvin Kirby of Romney, W.Va., Roy Lee Kirby of Nipetown, W.Va., Harry Kenneth Kirby of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Robert L. Kirby of Winchester, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Ann Saville.
A service will be held Monday at 12:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Bill Donovan will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles H. Wilt
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Charles Humphrey Wilt, 99, of Charles Town, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Jan. 2, 1900, in Chestnut Hill, W.Va., he was the son of the late Humphrey L. and Ida E. Pearl Wilt.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Elizabeth Ott Wilt, in 1981.
He retired from the U.S. Steel Company plant in Millville, W.Va.
He was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., where he was a former lay person in the church, and had served as an Adult Sunday School teacher in the church.
He is survived by four daughters, Estelle Kisner, Rosebud McDaniel, Antoinette Lochbaum and Arbutus Wilt, all of Charles Town; three sons, Paul E. Wilt and Eugene Wilt, both of Charles Town, and Garnett J. Wilt of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.; five sisters, Mary M. Jenkins of Ranson, Georgia Staubs, Essie Lancaster and Lillian Garrett, all of Harpers Ferry, and Mamie Piper of Charles Town; a brother, Mearl Wilt of Harpers Ferry; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ida Mae LaRue; three sisters, Bessie Jackson, Edith Garrett and Pearl Harris; and two brothers, William Wilt and Wilmer Wilt.
Service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. B. Guilford Turner will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

James B. Davis
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - James Blackwell Davis, 84, of Woodford Lawn, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home.
Born March 5, 1915, in Warrenton, Va., he was the son of the late Dr. George H. and Emily Norman Smith Davis.
He was a graduate of Warrenton High School and Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va., where he was an outstanding football player and a member of the VPI Hokie Club.
He was the owner and operator of Town and Country Clothier's and Elite Cleaners in Charles Town.
He was involved in the real estate business in Jefferson County, W.Va., and previously was in public relations for the American Manufacturing Association.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received the rank of major.
He was a member of the board of directors of F&M Blakeley Bank in Ranson, W.Va., and had served as chairman of the board.
He was a member of Shenandoah Morning Kiwanis Club in Charles Town; Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce; and had served on the Board of the West Virginia Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival. He was a member of Henry Kyd Douglas Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans; Millbrook Orchestra in Shepherdstown, W.Va.; Jefferson County Chapter Historical Society; Jefferson County Chapter NAACP; Jamestowne Society; a founding member of Charles Town Downtown Merchants Association and the Jefferson Memorial Park in Charles Town; an active supporter of Halltown, W.Va. Chapel; and a member of Jackson-Perks American Legion Post No. 71 in Charles Town.
He was an active member of Zion Episcopal Church in Charles Town, where he served on the church vestry and had been the director of the Sunday School.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Browse Davis; a daughter, Elizabeth Davis Stafford of Sausalito, Calif.; a son, James Blackwell Davis Jr. of Charles Town; a brother, John Wilson Davis of Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Davis Austin; and two brothers, Thomas W.S. Davis and George H. Davis Jr.
A service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, 300 E. Congress St., Charles Town. The Rev. Jack Weise and the Rev. John Alfriend will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Episcopal Church Yard cemetery in Charles Town.
There will be no visitation.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Theodore P. McCoy
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Theodore P. McCoy, 79, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 31, 1920, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Oliver B. and Edith Cain McCoy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Marie Young McCoy, in 1988.
He retired from Eastern Panhandle Training Center as a Morgan County bus driver and maintenance man.
He attended Highland United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs.
He was a member of Junior Order Council No. 117 of the American Legion.
He is survived by three daughters, Selvia Swaim of Florida, Rose Hendershot of Town Hill, Pa., and Edna Mae Hixon of Hancock, Md.; a son, Douglas P. McCoy of Gaithersburg, Md.; a sister, Jeffery Ambrose of High Point, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes P. McCoy, and a grandson, Teddy Swaim.
A service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. William Swope will officiate. Burial will be in Highland United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a memorial service Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by members of Junior Order Council No. 117 of the American Legion.

Anna M. Saunders
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Anna Mary Saunders, 94, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999, at Westminster-Canterbury in Winchester, Va.
Born Aug. 15, 1905, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late David H. and Susan Ellis Newkirk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Saunders Sr. They were married
March 25, 1925.
She was a member of Falling Waters Presbyterian Church at Spring Mills.
She is survived by four daughters, Ethel Clymer of Tallahassee, Fla., Jacqueline Martin of Winchester, Va., and Barbara Gregory and Jennie L. Hull, both of Martinsburg; a son, Franklin Saunders of Orlando, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert L. Saunders Jr.; two sisters, Eva Linton and Elizabeth McMillan; three brothers, James E. Newkirk, George Newkirk and John Newkirk Saunders; a granddaughter; and a grandson.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Falling Waters Presbyterian Church cemetery at Spring Mills.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.
