MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Clement B. Hansrote, 65, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Indian River, Rehoboth Beach, Del., as the result of a boating accident.
Born May 6, 1934, in Hedgesville, W.Va., he was the son of the late William and Goldie Stokes Hansrote.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 16 years of service, including in Korea and Vietnam.
He was a member and five-time commander of Berkeley Post No. 14, American Legion; and was 10th District vice district commander of the American Legion. He was honor guard commander of Berkeley Post No. 14 American Legion and held other positions in the American Legion. He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post No. 896 VFW; and was named an All American District Commander of the VFW.
He is survived by five daughters, Barbara Rutherford of Martinsburg, Reba Myers of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Tina Allen of Inwood, W.Va., Mary LeMaster of Hedgesville and Christina Newman of Edgewood, Md.; three sons, Steven Berkeley Hansrote and Marvin Todd Hansrote, both of Martinsburg, and Travis Floyd Hansrote of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; three sisters, Mae Phillips of Arkansas, Mary Klahre and Diane VanMetre, both of Martinsburg; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Duane Casteel will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens with military services by Berkeley Post No. 14 American Legion and Newton D. Baker Post No. 896 VFW.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Paul A. Whitacre
INWOOD, W.Va. - Paul Ambers Whitacre, 77, of Inwood, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born Oct. 7, 1921, in Darkesville, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ambers C. and Bessie Mumaw Whitacre.
He was a 1941 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He retired in 1982 after 36 years with Perfection Garment Co.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Darkesville United Methodist Church; Golden Circle Sunday School Class, and was a trustee.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post No. 896 VFW; and Berkeley Post No. 14 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vivian J. Tusing Whitacre; and two sons, John A. Whitacre of Martinsburg and Michael P. Whitacre of Milton, Del.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Hamilton.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Khrista Ferguson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, with military services by Newton D. Baker Post No. 896 VFW and Berkeley Post No. 14 American Legion.

Frances V. Harmison
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Frances V. Harmison, 67, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 1, 1931, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harold Glen and Susie A. Butts Holben.
She was a member of Pilgrim Presbyterian Church.
She was a member of PTA; a member and past commander of DAV Unit No. 8; and past president of Bedington Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, John W. Harmison; five sons, John Harmison Jr., Tracy Harmison, Terry Harmison and Gary Harmison, all of Martinsburg, and Michael Harmison of Cranberry Township, Pa.; a sister, Viola Leonard of Martinsburg; two brothers, Harvey Holben and Harold G. Holben, both of Martinsburg; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Clemmons; two brothers, Ernest Holben and William Holben; and a grandson.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Louise Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Mary F. Smallwood
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary F. Smallwood, 77, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.
Born June 13, 1922, in Harrisburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Mary Mills Aldinger.
She was a member of Pikeside United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Smallwood; a son, D. James Smallwood Sr. of Williamsport; three sisters, Ruth Herring of Gettysburg, Pa., and Susan Pope and Betty Gilreath, both of Harrisburg; two brothers, Phillip Aldinger and Stanley Aldinger, both of York Springs, Pa.; a grandson; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Jill Smallwood and Stacey Smallwood.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Daniel Montague will officiate. Burial will be in Paynes Chapel Cemetery, Ridgeway, W.Va.

Max D. Boward
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Max D. Boward, 76, of Route 1, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 23, 1923, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Edward Jacob and Nellie Starliper Boward.
He retired from Potomac Edison.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Somers Boward; one son, Daniel Boward of Hedgesville; one sister, Peggy Carter of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one brother, Emory Boward of Carlisle, Pa.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Hope Emery, Ruth DeHaven and Faith Shaffer; and three brothers, Charles Boward, Roger Boward and Kenneth Boward.

John W. Rock
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - John William Rock, 79, of Blue Ridge Acres, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at his home.
He was born Aug. 19, 1919, in Welland, Ontario, Canada.
He retired as a builder in the construction industry.
He served in the Canadian army during World War II. He immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen in 1958.
He is survived by his wife, Malvina V. Rock; two daughters, Joann Edwards of Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Ann Merchant of Harpers Ferry; two sons, Michael Rock of Hanover, Pa., and Steven Breckenridge of Modesto, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate.
