CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Dorothy Charlotte Lake, 82, of Patrick Henry Way, and formerly of Millville, W.Va., died Monday, July 19, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 10, 1917, in Strasburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward Lake Sr. and Anna Catherine Overholtz Lake.
She retired in 1985 from Cliffside Inn, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. She previously worked for Musselman Fruit Co. in Inwood, W.Va.; and Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, Md. She had been a reporter for The Spirit of Jefferson Farmer's Newspaper Advocate, for the Millville area.
She was a member of Shenandoah United Methodist Church, Millville, W.Va.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas E. Lake Jr. of Brunswick, Md.; three nieces; a nephew; five great-nieces; eight great-nephews; seven great-great-nieces; and two great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Himes and Louise DeWalt; and a niece.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in United Church of Christ Reformed Cemetery, Jefferson, Md.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arthur Nelsen Sr.
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Arthur Nelsen Sr., 68, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Phillipsburg, N.J., died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 16, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Ole and Inga Olsen Nelsen.
He attended public schools in New York.
He had worked as a truck driver. He retired as a carpenter in commercial construction.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was awarded a Bronze Star with Combat "V" and a Purple Heart, among other decorations.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a member of Laborers Local 569 and Loyal Order of Moose, both in Washington, N.J.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Doris Marie Flyte Nelsen; one daughter, Darla Kahle of Washington; three sons, George Nelsen of Winchester, Va., Arthur Nelsen Jr. of Washington, and Kevin Lee Nelsen of Berkeley Springs; and six grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, Va., at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m.
Mildred R. Sharff
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mildred Ruth LeMaster Sharff, 81, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at the home of her daughter.
Born Feb. 11, 1918, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harvey Morgan LeMaster and Clara Mabel Donaldson LeMaster.
Her husband, Ivan W. Sharff, preceded her in death.
She was a former employee of Second Hand Rose.
She was a member of Pikeside United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Inis Clements of Martinsburg; one brother, Marvin LeMaster; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Marguerite Lloyd; and one brother, Wilson LeMaster.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg. The Revs. Daniel Montague and Michael Marsh will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Jane M. Phillips
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jane M. Phillips, 78, of Martinsburg, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at City Hospital.
Born Aug. 22, 1920, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Hunter Lee and Sarah Thompson Bazel Thornburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Phillips.
She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was treasurer of Sarah Philathea Class.
She is survived by four daughters, Jayne Mason, Joyce Young, Elizabeth Weigle and Amy Barry, all of Martinsburg; one son, Hugh Max DeHaven, of Martinsburg; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Brown and Wanda B. Martin.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. The Rev. Christopher D. Fowler will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

Louise V. Brand
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Louise Virginia Brand, 79, of Royal Crest Estates, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 6, 1919, in Downsville, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Lena Elizabeth Stoneburner Fink.
She retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, as a payroll clerk after 40 years.
She was a member of Ashbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town, W.Va.
She is survived by two sisters, Mae Bernardelli of Hagerstown and Marjorie Fortman of Frederick, Md.; one niece, Monica Fortman; one nephew, Craig Bernardelli; one great-niece and two great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Fink.
Funeral services and burial in Trinity Episcopal Church Columbarium, Martinsburg, will be private.
There will be no visitation.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - The Rev. Lester William Dillow, 72, of Kabletown Road, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Oct. 14, 1926, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles Franklin and Maggie L. Painter Dillow.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Louise Dillow, in 1993.
He was employed at Subs and More, Charles Town. He retired from Whitmore-Arnold Farm Equipment Co., Purcellville, Va.; and he had been employed by Peoples Supply Co., Charles Town.
He was a member and associate pastor of International Pentecostal Church of Christ, Middleway, W.Va.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by one daughter, Deborah L. Ruble of Locust Hill, Charles Town; two sons, Lester Owen Dillow of Richmond, Va., and Charles F. Dillow of Charles Town; two sisters, Betty Fellers and Addie Stagner, both of Charles Town; three brothers, Charles Dillow of Waynesboro, Va., Gardner Dillow and Thomas Dillow, both of Millville, W.Va.; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah Trout and Gladys Dillow; one brother, Elmer Dillow and one half brother, Marshall Painter.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at International Pentecostal Church of Christ, Middleway, W.Va. The Revs. Frank James and Franklin Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.
