CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Sophia A. Eddy, 73, of Charles Town, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 19, 1925, in Exeter, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Teofil and Antonina Wodziak Loch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald M. Eddy.
She retired from the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Manchester, N.H.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town.
She is survived by two sons, Brian Eddy of Charles Town and Neal Eddy of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; a sister, Helen Marshall of Exeter; two brothers, Joseph P. Loch of Exeter and Anthony Loch of Portsmouth, N.H.; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Robert L. Beckett
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Robert L. Beckett, 73, of Shepherdstown, died of congestive heart failure Friday, July 16, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was a professor on the faculty of universities and colleges for 31 years. He taught geology, geography, engineering and math courses at Montgomery College in Silver Spring, Md., for 23 years. He taught on military bases in Germany for the University of Maryland for three summers.
He helped develop the Geology Department at Colorado State University at Fort Collins, Colo.
In pre-Castro Cuba, he was in charge of the base metal exploration for American Freeport Sulphur Co. He taught geology at University of Oriente Province in Santiago, Cuba.
He studied oyster and crab diseases of the Chesapeake Bay under a state grant.
He was a member of League of Women Voters, Audubon Society, Arts and Humanities Alliance, Cress Creek Bridge Group, and sang with the Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church choir, all in Shepherdstown.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne Beckett; three children, Robert L. Beckett Jr., Marie Beckett and Alan Ray Beckett of Reston, Va.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va. Refreshments will be served in Fellowship Hall following the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the new choir room of Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church.

INWOOD, W.Va. - Michael Edward Price, 40, of Inwood, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 30, 1958, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Marcella Hess Price of Inwood and the late Norman T. Price.
He was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Michael Wayne and Christopher Lee Price, both at home; and a brother, Tony W. Price of Shepherdstown, W.Va.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Tom Boggess will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Joyce B. Parker
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joyce Bell Parker, 71, of Martinsburg, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 2, 1927, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late David Luther and Anna Roman Bell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore L. Parker.
She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, was a deaconess and mother of the church.
She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Darlene Roman, Jessie Paige Ambush and Debra Lauretta Parker, all of Martinsburg, and Tina Louise Willis of Dayton, Ohio; four sons, T. Bradford Parker of Inwood, W.Va., Shannon David Parker of Fayetteville, N.C., Craig Luther Parker of Lynchburg, Va., and William Mayberry Parker of Martinsburg; a sister, Alyce Ballard of Martinsburg; a brother, Luther Bell of Martinsburg; 22 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, John W. Parker; a stepdaughter, Vesta Johnson; and a sister, Thelma Bell.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The Rev. James E. Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Lewis C. Berry Sr.
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Lewis Calvin Berry Sr., 79, of 831 Martin Luther King Blvd., died Monday, July 19, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Jan. 2, 1920, in Lewisville, Va., he was the son of the late Lewis Henry and Sarah Rosetta Jones Berry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Gray Berry.
He retired from Laurel Race Track, where he had been a groom for more than 40 years.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was a member of Golden Age Club.
He is survived by nine daughters, Stella Robinson, Cora Wood, Harla Berry and Angela Berry, all of Charles Town, Sara Jones and Emma Rose, both of Martinsburg, Josephine Berry of Landover, Md. Doris Turner of Suitland, Md., and Linda Berry of Ranson, W.Va.; two sons, Lewis Berry Jr. of Charles Town and James Berry of New Jersey; two sisters, Annie Tolbert of Charles Town and Josephine Jones of Berryville, Va.; 37 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Berry; six sisters, Frances Grimes, Emmaline Doleman, Sarah Russ, Mattie Newman, Elizabeth Shorts and Lena Potter; and three brothers, Wilbert Berry, Thomas Berry and Joseph Berry.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Wainwright Baptist Church, Charles Town. The Rev. Walter Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Robert A. Bartles
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Robert Allen Bartles, 67, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center Nursing Home.
Born April 15, 1932, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas R. Bartles and Lucy S. Myers Bartles Childs.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War . He then served in the the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
He was a floor sander and finisher.
He was a member of Moeler Avenue Church of the Brethren.
He was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by a sister, Frances M. Conner of Martinsburg; a niece, and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret V. Gregory; and a brother, Earl Rudolph Bartles.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, 2060 Rosedale Cemetery Road, Martinsburg. Pastor Eddie Edmonds will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
