BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Jean Frances Mechem Jurick, 63, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at her home.
Born Aug. 4, 1935, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Cleveland F. and Lillian Marie Michael Mechem.
She was a 1953 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, Potomac State College, Class of 1955, and West Virginia University, Class of 1957. She attend Northwestern University Speech Institute in 1952.
She was a retired speech pathologist serving North Syracuse School District.
She was involved in over 50 productions in Syracuse, N.Y., and Martinsburg, W.Va. She performed with The Apollo Theatre.
She was an active member of The First United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Ye Towne of Bath Chapter, DAR, T.O.P.S., Retired Teachers Association of Morgan County, American Cancer Society and an honorary chair person of The 1998 Relay for Life.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew Jurick, three sons, Dana Kalsey Jurick of Houston, Jerry Jurick of Baltimore, and Jeffery Jurick of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Joe Mechem of Berkeley Springs, and Robert Mechem of Rixeyville, W.Va.; and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Joan Mechem.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Saint Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John Ledford and the Rev. Owen Womack will officiate. Burial will be in Michael Family cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home.
A prayer service will be held today at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles W. Saylor Sr.
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Charles William "Jumbo" Saylor Sr., 78, of 7 W. Shennandale Road, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at his home.
Born June 2, 1920, in Ladiesburg, Md., he was the son of the late Claude W. and Anna Mary Shank Saylor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Catherine Ramsburg Saylor, in 1995.
He was formerly employed by Western Maryland Railroad. He then farmed, retiring in 1983.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Creagerstown.
He was a charter member of VFW Post 8806, Union Bridge, Md., a member of South Jefferson Ruritan Club, Glade Valley Grange and Bowling League, Mixed Bowling League, Walkersville Bowling Center, and Maryland Cooperative Milk Producers.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Jacobs of Presque Isle, Maine, and Carol Jean Dyer of Hagerstown; three sons, Robert L. Saylor of Frederick, Md., Dennis E. Saylor of Sterling, Va., and Preston L. Saylor of Charles Town; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles L. Saylor; and one brother, Donald L. Saylor.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Creagerstown. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Woodsboro.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hartzler Funeral Home, Woodsboro.

Alverta M. Mattson
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Alverta McSherry Mattson, 98, of Scottsdale, and formerly of Hagerstown and Johnstown, Pa., died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, in Phoenix.
Her husband, Clement Mattson, preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper.
She was a member of Scottsdale Wesleyan Church.
She is survived by one son, Paul Mattson of Goleta, Calif.; and one sister, Velda Grimes; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Robert Mattson M.D.
Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 19 at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 9300 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale.

Clarence O. Householder
FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Clarence Oliver "Jack" Householder, 70, of Route 1, Box 112, will be buried in Harmony cemetery in Falling Waters, W.Va.
Born Sept. 1, 1928, in Dry Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Clifford and Susan Edith Knable Householder.
He was retired as a carpenter for Home Construction Inc., Hagerstown. Prior to that he worked for Federal Silk Mill, Williamsport, and Drake Construction Company of Marlowe, W.Va.
He was a member of Marlowe Assembly of God.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Evangeline Jordan Householder; two sons, Richard Wayne Householder of Falling Waters, and Jack Jaye Householder of Williamsport; four sisters, Mable Reiff of Pinesburg, Md., Elizabeth Johnson and Nellie Beitler, both of Williamsport, and Helen Kepler of Middletown, Md.; four brothers, Newton Householder and Bill Householder, both of Marlowe, Paul Householder and Ned Householder, both of Williamsport; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Barbara Null, Myrtle Barkenfelt and Edith Hess; and two brothers, Arnold Householder and Leonard Householder.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Marlowe Assembly of God, Marlowe. The Rev. James Haskiell will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony cemetery, Hedgesville, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague Street, Williamsport. The funeral home will be open Tuesday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Velma I. Bishop
FORT THOMAS, Ky. - Velma Irene Bishop, 84, of Highland Nursing Home, and a former resident of Hancock, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born April 11, 1914, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Elmer T. and Flossie Henry Rankin
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Bishop.
She was formerly employed as a seamstress with Jacobs Brothers of Hancock.
She was a member of Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church, Hancock.
She is survived by a daughter, Flossie Shives of Florence, Ky.; four grandchildren, Nancy Bender, David Bender, Karen Robyn and Michael Bishop; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney R. Bishop.
Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Phillip Unger will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church.
