BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Evelyn Johansen Barnhart, 86, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Vero Beach, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs.
Born Dec. 24, 1912, in West Orange, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Ethel Toupet Johansen.
She was educated in Newark, N.J., public schools.
During World War II, she ran a machine shop in Newark and was a precision machinist. She was a homemaker.
She was a Presbyterian.
She is survived by a son, Andrew Wayne Barnhart of Gaithersburg, Md.; three grandchildren, Douglass A. Barnhart of Hellerstown, Pa., Cynthia L. Galleher of Skippack, Pa., and Gregory S. Barnhart of Gaithersburg; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bradley-Braviak Funeral Home, 49 Whippany Road, Whippany, N.J. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, N.J.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Local arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.
Anna L. Hill
RANSON, W.Va. - Anna Lee Hill, 74, of Orchard Hills, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.
Born Jan. 12, 1925, in McComb, Miss., she was the daughter of the late James L. and Edna Irene Blailock Carlisle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grayson William Hill, in 1980.
She was a graduate of McComb High School.
She was formerly employed by Leggett Department Store, Charles Town, W.Va.
She was a member of Charles Town Baptist Church.
She was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter 1028, Charles Town.
She is survived by five daughters, Judith A. Slusher and Loretta L. Penwell, both of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., Susan I. Alger of Ranson, Nancy G. Weakland of Longmont, Colo., and Debra K. Stottlemyer of Charles Town; two sons, Gregory W. Hill of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Terry Lee Hill of Ranson; two sisters, Julia Montgomery and Lucille Richardson, both of McComb; two brothers, Howard Carlisle of McComb and Ray Carlisle of Pembrook Pines, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Carlisle, Edward Carlisle, Emmett Carlisle and Irving Carlisle.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Charles Town Baptist Church, 203 E. Congress St., Charles Town. Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Edith Swartz Darlington, 96, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 20, 1902, in Bunker Hill, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Fannie Anderson Swartz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Darlington.
She was the former owner and operator of Christian Book and Novelty Store in Bunker Hill.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Jane Dellinger and Joan Honsaker, both of Inwood, W.Va.; two sons, James Robert Darlington Jr. of Hollywood, Fla., and Albert Franklin Darlington of Martinsburg; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a close family friend, Dale Lewis.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beulah "Snitz" Triggs; a sister, Beulah Miller; and four brothers, Lester Swartz, Fred Swartz, Norman Swartz and Martin Swartz.
Services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Revs. Eddie H. Edmonds and Dottie Dunham will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Vallie Pauline Thomas, 75, of Charles Town, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Charles Town.
Born Aug. 6, 1923, in Summit Point, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Audrey and Abbie Agnes Gray Gaynor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J.V. Thomas.
She was retired from Charles Town Races.
She was a member of Charles Town Baptist Church.
She was a member of Women of the Moose 1028.
She is survived by one daughter, Agnes V. Jones of Bakerton, W.Va.; four sons, Henry R. Welch of Ladiesburg, Md., Edward G. Welch of Minot, N.D., Larry M. Welch of Clarksburg, Md., and Jerry F. Welch of Clarksville, Tenn.; three brothers, James E. Gaynor and Theodore N. Gaynor, both of Charles Town, and Roy Lee Gaynor of Burlington, N.C.; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael L. Welch; one sister, Lucy Margaret Gaynor; and two brothers, Carl Iden Gaynor and George William Gaynor.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home. The Rev. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town.

David A. Gageby
ENGLE, W.Va. - David Allen Gageby, 98, of Engle, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Canterbury of Shepherdstown, Shepherdstown, W.Va.
Born Jan. 22, 1901, in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., he was the son of the late William Edward and Nellie Brown Gageby.
He was employed with B&O Railroad for 42 years and he was also a security guard at Charles Town Races for 18 years.
He was a member of Engle United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, secretary, and treasurer of the church for many years.
He was a member of Brotherhood of Maintenance Workers on the Railroad.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Irene Potts Gageby, whom he married
in 1927; one daughter, Joyce Gageby Moler of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one son, David Edward Gageby of Charles Town, W.Va.; one brother, Harry Gageby; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Engle and Nellie Virginia Bush; five brothers, Charles W. Gageby, Howard, M. Gageby, Samuel H. Gageby, George W. Gageby and James E. Gageby; and one granddaughter.
