John F. Collins

INWOOD, W.Va. - John F. Collins, 81, of Inwood, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center.

Born Nov. 26, 1917, in Grimes, Va., he was the son of the late Charles Edgar and Edith Pearl Braithwaite Collins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Mason Collins, in 1988. They were married Nov. 12, 1938.

He was retired from C. H. Musselman Company.

He was an active member of Gerrardstown United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee of the church and parsonage. He was a past superintendent of the Sunday School; former Building Fund treasurer; and had served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. He was currently teacher of Men's Class; and a member of Administrative Council. He was a member of the Building Committee in 1957 that was instrumental in the building of the present church.

He was a member of the U.C.T.

He is survived by a daughter, Loretta J. McGowan of Martinsburg, W.Va.; six sisters, Carrie Whitacre of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Catherine Collis of Inwood, Mildred Dawson of Winchester, Va., Margaret Rinker of Reliance, Va., Gladys DuBose of Falling Waters, W.Va. and Anna Linton of Roscommon, Mich.; two brothers, Robert L. Collins of Martinsburg and Howard W. Collins of Inwood; a granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ida Crim, Virginia Minnick and Hilda Clark; and two brothers, Thurman Collins and E. Woodrow Collins.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Sandra L. Lasher will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Gerrardstown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 125, Gerrardstown, WV 25420.

Catherine L. Simpson

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Catherine Louise Simpson, 72, of Rt. 3 Charles Town, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Loudoun Hospital Center, Leesburg, Va.

Born June 11, 1926, in Lovettsville, Va., she was the daughter of the late Oliver Nobel and Lucy Cecelia Kelly Danner.

She was preceded in death by her husband Shirley Robert Simpson, Sr., who died in 1983.

She was of Protestant faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Cecelia Smith of New Market, Md., and Patricia Stiles of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two sons, Luther Simpson and Shirley R. Simpson II, both of Cherryville, N.C.; one sister, Doris Jenkins of Hamilton, Va.; two brothers, Roy Danner of Kissimmee, Fla., and John Danner of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two half sisters, Janet Sheffield of Hamilton, and Jackie Arnold of Round Hill, Va.; two half brothers, Wayne Danner of Hamilton, and Marvin Danner of Lovettsville; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Jefferies.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Basil Day, Jr., will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Margaret E. Skinner

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Margaret Ellen Rissler Skinner, 87, of Charles Town, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Feb. 25, 1911, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Alice Kable Rissler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Skinner, in 1966.

She was a 1928 graduate of Charles Town High School; and attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia.

She formerly was employed by Jefferson County Board of Education.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Suzanna Wesley Class.

She was a member of Charles Town Woman's Club and a volunteer with the Jefferson County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Her drawings of Jefferson County homes were displayed on calendars in the community.

She is survived by three daughters, Alice S. Dyer of Cumberland, Md., Elizabeth A. Gough of Charles Town, and Margaret E. Miller of Racine, Wis.; two brothers, John C. Skinner Jr. of Charles Town and Robert R. Skinner of Martinsburg; 20 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna K. Silliman and Mary J. Keene; and one brother, Howard F. Rissler.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 110 W. North St., Charles Town. The Rev. Dee-Ann Dixon will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 44-2 Wiltshire Road, Kearneysville, WV 25430; or to Jefferson County Meals on Wheels, 220 E. Washington St., Charles Town, W.V 25414; or Jefferson Memorial Hospital, 300 S. Preston St., Ranson, WV 25438.

Berlin G. Wimer

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Berlin G. Wimer, 78, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 4, 1920, in Franklin, W.Va., he was the son of the late Marion and Mattie Moats Wimer.

He retired from Badger Powhatan.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He was a member of Blind Veterans Association.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Jarboe Wimer; two daughters, Jackie Tetro and Charlotte Sherman, both of Martinsburg; a son, Joseph Wimer of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; a sister, Ella Mae Rexrode of Staunton, Va.; two brothers, Warren Wimer of Harrisonburg, Va., and Bill Wimer of Mims, Fla.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Collette Tetro; two sisters, Cleo Taylor and Ruby Chambers; and a brother, Edwin Wimer.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the VA Chapel, Building 500. Chaplain W.E. Coen will officiate. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Grace T. Mihalik

BOLIVAR, W.Va. - Grace Truitt Mihalik, 66, of Bolivar, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Berlin, Md.

Born July 30, 1932, in Salisbury, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clyde Gilbert and Grace Perry Truitt.

She was a retired employee of the Federal Emergency Management Agency at Berryville, Va.

She was a Methodist.

She was a member of International Executive Housekeepers Association, Charm City Chapter; and secretary and treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic District. She also belonged to Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW at Delmar, Md.; and a former member of Harpers Ferry Women's Club.

She is survived by a son, E. Glenn Mihalik of Harpers Ferry; three sisters, Peggy White of Salisbury, Md., Rhodie Wootten of Delmar, Del., and Marcy Simpson of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Burbage Funeral Home, 108 Williams St., Berlin, Md.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Lutheran cemetery in Bolivar. The Rev. Joanne Alexander will officiate.

The family will receive friends Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Local arrangements are by Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

Mary Gerken

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary Gerken, 88, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at City Hospital.

Born Dec. 10, 1910, in Pittston, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ann Golden Mullarkey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Harry Gerken.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce Gerken of Martinsburg and William R. Gerken of Tucson, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph Mullarkey, Thomas Mullarkey, Francis Mullarkey, Edward Mullarkey and Aloysius Mullarkey.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 233 S. Queen St., Martinsburg, WV 25401.
