RANSON, W.Va. - Helen Elizabeth Barnard, 71, of Ranson, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at the Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Charles Town, W.Va.
Born June 16, 1927, in Laurel, Md., she was the daughter of the late Richard Burke and Annie Roberta Smith Beall.
She was a retired bookkeeper.
She was a member of Oakland Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose No. 1028, and held the offices of college of regents, star recorder and academy of friendship.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Stuart Barnard; a stepson, Douglas Michael Barnard of Cornell, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Leslie Karel Young of Pasadena, Md.; and a sister, Mary Ann Jasper of Gambrills, Md.
Graveside services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, in Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. Edward Rawlings will officiate.
Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio-West Virginia Affiliate, 1319 Quarrier St., Charleston WV 25301.

Donald Lee Franks
INWOOD, W.Va. - Donald Lee Franks, 55, of Inwood, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998 in City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Jan. 26, 1943, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Arnold and Catherine Unger Franks.
He was a member of Mount Carmel Church at Glengary.
He was a member of Back Creek Valley Council No. 15, JOUAM
He is survived by his wife, Jean Butts Franks; two sons, Donald Lee Franks Jr. of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Brian Lee Franks, at home; two brothers, Phillip Franks of Glengary, and Charles Franks of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; two sisters, Delores Dunham of Glengary, and Geneva McFarland of Darkesville, W.Va.; one grandson; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home. The Rev. Lester A. Kisner will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Back Creek Valley Council No. 15 JOUAM will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
Catherine E. Noll
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Catherine Elizabeth Aikens Noll, 77, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Heartland of Martinsburg.
Born June 4, 1921, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Nelson and Martha Virginia Tedrick Aikens.
She was a 1941 graduate of Bunker Hill High School, Bunker Hill, W.Va.
She was employed by Perfection Garment Co.
She was a member of Independent Bible Church and Ladies Berean Class.
She is survived by four sisters, Louise Albert of Martinsburg, Anna Bell Smith of Bunker Hill, Tiny Juanita Temple of Monroe, La., and Ella Lee Knighten of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Lord and Dorothy Evy; three brothers, Charles Aikens, George Aikens and John H. Aikens; and her companion, Edith James.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Mark D. Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Sarah Betty Russek, 89, of Harpers Ferry, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at the home of her daughter, Loretta Fischer.
Born Sept. 11, 1909, in Mount Pleasant, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James and Haddie Mae Little Casbar.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Russek, in 1986.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town.
She helped with Senior Tigers Citizens Group, Connellsville, Pa.; and Senior Center, Uniontown, Pa. She was a hospice volunteer in Uniontown.
She is survived by two daughters, Loretta Fischer of Harpers Ferry and Darlene Hess of Atlanta; four sons, Henry Russek of Charles Town, Joseph Russek of Silver Spring, Md., Thomas Russek of Shadyside, Md., and John Russek of Connellsville, Pa.; a sister, Helene Ball of Williamson, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Johnston and Josephine Riley; and a grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town, with Father Brian Owens as celebrant. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with a Scriptural Wake Service at 8 p.m.
Barbara E. Biller
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Barbara Ellen Biller, 72, of Harpers Ferry, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Sept. 29, 1926, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Lester G. and Flossie Virginia Chick Woods.
She was a graduate of Brunswick High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town, W.Va.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 128, Charles Town.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Raymond E. Biller; two daughters, Brenda Biller-Wiggins of Falls Church, Va., and Raye Ellen Blackford of Bardane, W.Va.; a son, Scott A. Biller of Bolivar, W.Va.; a sister, Mary Harrison of Falls Church; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Episcopal Church, Charles Town. The Rev. John Alfriend will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Episcopal Churchyard Columbarium.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Biller residence at 1515 Washington St., Harpers Ferry.

Harry L. Rankin Sr.
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Harry Lee Rankin Sr., 86, of Shenandoah Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at the rehabilitation center.
Born March 12, 1912, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Ada Bell Rankin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Blanche Getts Rankin, in 1995.
He retired after many years as a self-employed farmer in Jefferson County, W.Va.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by four daughters, Mary Ann Spinks of Charles Town, Anna Mae Carter of Woodbridge, Va., Barbara Carper of Ranson, W.Va., and Linda Gates of Kearneysville, W.Va.; three sons, Melvin Rankin of Summit Point, W.Va., George Rankin of Winchester, Va., and Carl Lee Rankin of Rippon, W.Va.; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harry Lee Rankin Jr., in 1984; two sisters, Virgie Howell and Rosie Howell; and three brothers, Pete, Charles and Joseph Rankin.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery, Berryville, Va.
