BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Clyde G. VanGosen, 74, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born Dec. 5, 1924, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Berkeley C. and Martha E. Barney VanGosen.
He retired, as a driller, in 1987 from Pennsylvania Glass Sand Corp. of Berkeley Springs. Prior, he had been a carpenter.
He was a member of Church of Christ, Berkeley Springs.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorthy L. Penner VanGosen; two daughters, Connie S. Fleece and Debra K. Jenkinson, both of Berkeley Springs; two sons, Dennis R. VanGosen of Needmore, Pa., and Gerald K. VanGosen of Hancock; four sisters, Ethel Bent of Baltimore, Jeanne Oyerly, Betty Burton and Nancy Hovermale, all of Berkeley Springs; four brothers, Eldridge VanGosen and Ronald VanGosen, both of Berkeley Springs, Larry VanGosen and Richard VanGosen, both of Baltimore; seven grandsons; four granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mickey VanGosen; two sisters, Phillis Wills and Willadean Courtney; and a brother, Donald R. VanGosen.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs. Mr. Paul Cantrell will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home also will be open Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.
Blanche H. Lindsay
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Blanche Helen Lindsay, 82, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.
Born June 2, 1916, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Helen Grant.
She had been a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. She was a member for many years of St. Helena Catholic Church in Blue Belle, Pa., where she was a member of the Sodality.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, L. David Lindsay; a daughter, Carolyn Thorman of Berkeley Springs; a niece; and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Wancheck; and a brother, Dr. John Grant.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 116 S. Washington St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. John S. Ledford will be celebrant. Burial will be in Union Chapel Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs.

Patrick D. McCauley
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Patrick Daniel McCauley, 17, of Willowbrooke, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Fairfax, Va.
Born Feb. 28, 1981, in Fairfax, he was the son of Patrick Lloyd and Marjorie A. Mele McCauley of Charles Town.
He was a 1997 graduate of Mountaineer Challenge Academy, Kingwood, W.Va.
He was employed with ICT Co. in Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was a Christian.
Surviving in addition to his parents are paternal grandmother, Margaret Plisko of Kearneysville, W.Va.; maternal grandmother, Shirley Mele of Nathalie, Va.; and a sister, Kristy Hedgespeth of Charles Town.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Pastor Glenn Dumire will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Darrell W. Ford
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Darrell W. Ford, 64, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998 at his home.
Born Dec. 17, 1933 in Harmony, Md., he was the son of the late Charles M. and Virginia I. Firestone Ford.
He was retired from the Maryland State Department of Highways.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two daughters, Lavonne Ford and Treva Ford, both of Myersville, Md., and one brother, James Ford of Frederick, Md.
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Anne Pearce Hendry, 90, of Shepherdstown, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 15, 1908, in Norfolk, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Willis Pearce and Bessie Morton White Pearce.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ernest S. Hendry.
She was a 1929 graduate of George Washington University and lived in China and the Philippines prior to World War II.
She taught school and was a laboratory assistant for her husband prior to their marriage. She was an expert seamstress and made vestments for various churches.
She was an active member of Fourth Presbyterian Church, Bethesda, Md.
She was a member of The Eleanor Wilson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by one son, Ernest S. Hendry Jr. of Shepherdstown; one daughter, Elizabeth Walton Vercoe of Carlisle, Mass., and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Pearce, and one sister, Elizabeth P. Murphy.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home. Dr. William P. Gregg Jr. will officiate.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick, Md.

Carl A. Comer
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Carl A. Comer, 80, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
Born Nov. 13, 1918, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Calvin C. Comer and Allie V. Abel Comer.
He was a brick and stone mason.
He was a champion horseshoe pitcher, a member of the National Horseshoe Pitcher's Association and was one of the founders and first president of the Oak Street Horseshoe Park, and a member of CCC.
He is survived by his wife, Frances E. Small Comer, whom he married
Dec. 24, 1943; two sons, Michael Carl Comer of Columbia, S.C., and Craig L. Comer of Martinsburg; one daughter, Ellen L. Beeghly of Stevensburg, W.Va.; three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was the last member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward J. Comer, Charles T. Comer and Calvin A. Comer; and one sister, Lillian O. Henry.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. The Rev. William R. Starr and Rev. John E. Wright will officiate. Interment will be in the Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
