MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Dolly D. McDermott, 61, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at City Hospital.
Born June 1, 1937, in Dallastown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Guy A. Smeigh and Georgia Braithwaite Smeigh.
She was retired from the Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
She was a member of the Redfeather Council in Williamsport, Md., and a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Women of the Moose.
She is survived by one son, Howard W. Dillow Jr. of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Mary Kitzmiller and Cecelia Kircher, both of Martinsburg; four grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home. The Rev. John V. DiBacco Jr., celebrant, will officiate. Interment will be in the Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening 7 to 9 p.m.
Albert Henry DeRonda
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Albert Henry DeRonda, 71, of Charles Town, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998 at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 21, 1927, in Peekskill, N.Y., he was the son of the late Albert DeRonda and Ethel May Whikehart DeRonda.
He retired in 1985 after 38 years as chief of medical administration of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.
He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town.
He was a corporal in the U.S. Army, working in finance.
He is survived by his wife, Nanette P. Minniti DeRonda, at home, to whom he was married
for 45 years; two daughters, Nanette F. DeRonda of Boca Raton, Fla., and Francine DeRonda of Charles Town; four sons, Albert DeRonda and John E. DeRonda, both of Charles Town, Daniel DeRonda of LaPlata, Md., and Thomas F. DeRonda of Ranson, W.Va.; two brothers, Robert DeRonda of Virginia, and Frederick DeRonda of San Francisco; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Boyles and Larry Boyd.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town, at 10 a.m. Thursday with Father Brian Owens officiating. Burial will be at the St. Peter's cemetery in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Panhandle Training Center/Jefferson Center.
Maryum Hollemon
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Maryum Hollemon, 89, of Rt. 2, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, in Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.
Born June 20, 1909, in Black Creek, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Emma Bass.
She retired from the Hecht Company in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Inwood, W.Va.
She is survived by one son, Garland R. Holloman of Hedgesville; one brother, Benjamin Bass of Lucama, N.C.; two sisters, Bernice Campbell and Martha Tomlinson, both of Wilson, N.C.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Rex Hollemon; one son, Grover R. Holloman; one daughter, Dorothy Jean Lodico; two brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Devin B. Ward and Pastor Tim Butler officiating. Interment will be in Central Chapel cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Arthur D. Viands
RANSON, W.Va. - Arthur Dorsey "Aughi" Viands, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.
Born May 21, 1919, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arthur A. and Fannie B. Longerbeam Viands.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Frances Johnson Viands, in 1979.
He retired from the Jones & Laughlin Steel Co., Blair, W.Va.
He attended Charles Town Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Steel Workers Union.
He is survived by one sister, Margaret Isabelle Wilt of Charles Town, W.Va.; nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Della Pearl, Bessie E. Breeden, Lacy Bussard and Pauline Wilt; three brothers, George Viands, Howard E. Viands, and Charles M. Viands.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Dr. Wyman Hall will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
James J. Gibbons
RANSON, W.Va. - James Jeremy "Junior" Gibbons, 17, of Ranson, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 24, 1981, in Marion, Va., he was the son of James Lee Render of Ranson and Connie Sue Moore Honacker of Marion.
He was a student at Jefferson High School, Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his adoptive parents, Russ and Glenda Gibbons of Hilton, Va.; his stepmother, Laura Render of Ranson; and an aunt and uncle with whom he resided, Libby and Michael Lerendu.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, 114 N. Mildred St., Ranson. The Rev. Jack Compton will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery in Bolivar, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Kenneth Jordan Carper
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Kenneth Jordan "Jordy" Carper, 11, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, in the Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Dec. 30, 1986, he was the son of Gary H. Carper Jr. and Melissa Barnhart Carper of Hedgesville.
He was a member of the Falling Waters Presbyterian Church at Spring Mills.
He was a sixth-grade student at Hedgesville Middle School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Dylan Carper and Trent Carper, both at home; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Sherilyn Barnhart of Hedgesville; maternal great-grandparents, Robert and Leila Flora of Hedgesville; paternal grandparents, Gary Carper Sr. and Brenda Carper of Hedgesville; paternal great-grandmother, Katherine Cushwa of Hedgesville; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Johnsontown Bible Church with the Rev. L. Jack Rudy and the Rev. Mitchell J. Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Falling Waters Presbyterian cemetery at Spring Mills.
The casket will be taken to the church at noon on Wednesday for viewing, and the family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
