MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Samuel D. Stephens, 43, of Martinsburg, died Monday, Dec. 14, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 28, 1955, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Helen Cook Stephens of Martinsburg and the late Samuel D. Stephens.
He attended Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Tina Stephens of Clarksburg, W.Va.; two sons, Sammy Stephens and Timmy Stephens, both of Clarksburg; a sister, Patricia Deaner of Martinsburg; and four brothers, Eugene Alexander, Douglas Stephens and Wayne Stephens, all of Martinsburg and Frank Alexander of Charleston, W.Va.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.
Stephen E. Pitzer
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Stephen E. Pitzer, 45, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998.
Born Feb. 7, 1953, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Roland and Thelma McDaniel Pitzer Sr.
He was a 1971 graduate of Martinsburg High School; a graduate of Shepherd College; and received his master's degree from West Virginia University.
He was a school teacher with Musselman High School for 23 years; and served as an athletic trainer with the school.
He was a member of Arden United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Mongan Pitzer; a daughter, Brianne Leigh Pitzer at home; a son, Jared Jeffrey-Scott Pitzer at home; three sisters, Delores Sue Pownell and Cynthia Brining, both of Hedgesville, W.Va. and Portia Jones of Martinsburg; a brother, James R. Pitzer Jr. of Hedgesville; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lawrence H. DeMoss
GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Lawrence H. DeMoss, 92, of Great Cacapon, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Care Haven of Berkeley in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 31, 1906, in Thornton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Adolphus E. and Missouri Allie Satterfield DeMoss.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hallie Belle Boyles DeMoss, in 1991.
He attended Thornton Grade School in Thornton, W.Va.
He retired after 30 years of service as a machinist with Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Great Cacapon, where he had been involved in numerous church functions including fundraising for the congregation.
He was a member of Junior Order of United American Mechanics Tonoloway Council 102, Great Cacapon. He and his wife were active with Morgan County Senior Life Services, Meals-on-Wheels program and with Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company, all in Great Cacapon.
He is survived by twin daughters, Ramona Lee Apple of Hancock and Leona Mae Crosen of Berkeley Springs; a son, William E. DeMoss of Kearneysville, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; four step-great-grandchildren; three step-great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Oda Grace Ball, Guila Mae Parks, Nella Anna Ball and Daisy Bell Shafer; and three brothers, Homer Earl DeMoss, William Edward DeMoss and Roy Dayton DeMoss.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Roger E. Burtner and the Rev. Wayne Frum will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, where the Junior Order will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral home will be open Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Quincy R. Durham
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Quincy Ray Durham, 1, of Hedgesville, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Dec. 17, 1997, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Sabrina Leigh Durham of Hedgesville and Bradley Steven Littleton of Charles Town, W.Va.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, James and Sandy Clendening of Hedgesville.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. Jimmy Williams will officiate. Burial will be private.
Ethel M. Novak
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Ethel Marie Novak, 73, of Charles Town, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Shenandoah Rehabilitation Center, Charles Town.
Born April 8, 1925, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late John J. and Ethel Thomas Brent.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin F. Novak Sr.
She was a member of United Methodist Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Georgeann Hodges of Baltimore, Carol L. Long of Kearneysville, W.Va., Tina M. Novak of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Kimberly A. Bun of Florida; three sons, James V. Novak and Edwin F. Novak Jr., both of Baltimore, and Thomas R. Novak of Martinsburg; a sister, Carolyn Collins of Delaware; a brother, James Brent of Maryland; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ursula C. Riley
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Ursula Carr Riley, 79, of Shepherdstown, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 15, 1919, in Pitt County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Taylor and Alice Hardy Carr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Riley.
She received her bachelor of science degree and her master's degree from East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C.
She retired from Boonsboro High School, Boonsboro, having taught for 40 years.
She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
She was a member of New Street United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va.
She was a member of AAUW, Shepherdstown Historical Society and Maryland Retired Teachers' Association.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. James Watts of Montgomery, Ala., Mildred "Billie" Carr at home and Mrs. James Cozart of Raleigh, N.C.; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard M. Carr.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at New Street United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown. The Rev. Wendy Shullenbarger will officiate.
