Leisa J. Hickey

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Leisa Jane Hickey, 37, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at her home.

Born Jan. 7, 1961, in Olney, Md., she was the daughter of Donald Vernon Smith of Thurmont, Md., and Barbara Ellen Hall Chapman of Hedgesville.

She attended Lone Oak Elementary School and Broome Junior High School, both in Rockville, Md.

She had worked as the manager of Goshen Mobil Convenience Mart in Germantown, Md. prior to moving to Hedgesville. She had most recently been a homemaker.

She was of the Protestant faith.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Howard "Gil" Hickey; a son, John Carl Hickey, at home; her stepfather, Clarence Otis Chapman of Hedgesville, W.Va.; two sisters, Kelley Elizabeth King of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Kathleen G. Paulsgrove of Monrovia, Md.; five brothers, Steve E. Smith of Rockville, Md., Clarence O. Chapman Jr. of Martinsburg, Michael E. Smith and Daryl C. Smith, both of Thurmont and Donald Wayne Smith of Brunswick, Md.; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Mae Hall and Teresa Lynn Smith.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Duane Castille and Mike Costello will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery, Cherry Run, W.Va.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Harold E. Wilt

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Harold Eugene "Buster" Wilt, 48, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born May 26, 1950, in Ranson, he was the son of late Harold W. and Audrey McDonald Wilt.

He was employed with the maintenance department with the City of Ranson and Wilt's Fruit Stand in Harpers Ferry.

He attended Millville Pentecostal Church.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Judy Jenkins Wilt; two daughters, Julie and Brandy Wilt, at home; four sisters, Audrey Grove of Silver Grove. W.Va., Alice Cook of Harpers Ferry, Joyce Ketron of Halltown, W.Va., and Retha Simmons of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; four brothers, Robert Wilt and Larry Wilt, both of Halltown, Jerry Wilt of Kearneysville, W.Va., and David Wilt of Harpers Ferry.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Millville Pentecostal Church, Millville. The Rev. Joe Fraley and the Rev. Benny Hardy will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Rev. Joe Fraley, Millville Pentecostal Church, P.O. Box 128, Millville, WV 25432.

Arrangements are by Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

Commodore E. Giffin

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Commodore Edward Giffin, 71, of 1003 Williams Drive, and formerly of Fairplay, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.

Born April 30, 1927, in Dargan, Md., he was the son of the late Theodore Thomas and Glendora Virginia Giffin.

He was self-employed as a school bus contractor for 26 years, retiring in 1985. During that time he was employed with T.S. Alphin at the Hagerstown/Washington Regional Airport.

He was a member of Hagerstown Bible Church.

He was a member of A.A.R.P.

He is survived by his wife, Ardella Ruth Lohman Giffin; one son, James Edward Giffin of Falling Waters; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Naomi Giffin; one brother, Dallas Nolan Giffin; and one stepbrother, Jacob Dusing.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel of Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. Dale R. Carver and the Rev. Gerald D. Carbaugh will officiate. Burial will be in Mount View cemetery, Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral home will be open Tuesday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hagerstown Bible Church, 203 Summit Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Ernest L. Stanley

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ernest L. Stanley, 64, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at City Hospital.

Born Dec. 26, 1934, in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late William H. and Vallie Kitchen Stanley.

He was formerly employed with Hamilton Milling Company as a truck driver.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by three sisters, Violet Burris, Evelyn Smith and Juanita Baldridge, all of Martinsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Keif; and two brothers, William H. Stanley and Russell Van Horn.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Kenneth H. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Tomahawk cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Harold J. Fischer

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Harold J. Fischer, 51, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at his home.

Born Jan. 25, 1947, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Milton Fischer and Clara Fitzgerald Fischer.

He was employed with Pro Capital Funding, Bethesda, Md.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Bakerton, W.Va.

He was past president of the American Heart Association, Capital area.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Nunez Fischer; one daughter, Chelsea Ann Fischer, at home; and one sister, Gloria Crews of Hampton, Va.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joseph Conti will officiate. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 236, Bakerton, WV 25425 or to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV. 25401.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home.

Mary O. Gandee

MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. - Mary Omega Maudine Rarick Gandee, 62, of Society Hill Road, died Dec. 26, 1998, at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Princeton, W.Va., the daughter of the late Jacob Chrisley and Mary Cathleen Goodykoontz Rarick.

She was a 1954 graduate of Matoaka High School in Matoaka, W.Va. She attended Johnson Bible College in Kimberlin, Tenn., and was a 1958 graduate of Camden Clark Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

She had been employed by Bluefield Sanitarium, now the Bluefield Regional Hospital in Bluefield, W.Va. She had worked at the Orient State Hospital in Orient, Ohio, Cobb General in Austell, Ga., and retired from the Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va., in 1998.

She was a U.S. Air Force nurse and was discharged with the rank of captain.

She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Mineral Wells.

She is survived by her husband, Paul L. Gandee; one daughter, Sandra M. Gandee of Mineral Springs; one son, Craig A. Gandee of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Bradford P. Gandee and Brent M. Gandee, both of Davisville, W.Va.; three sisters, Donna P. Woods of Princeton, Wahunita L. Rarick, and Ada L. Willis, both of Baltimore, and five brothers, William G. Rarick of London, Ohio, Jacob C. Rarick Jr. and Merlin H. Rarick, both of Princeton, James F. Rarick of Baltimore, Marcus C. Rarick of Alexandria, Va.; one grandson and eight step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta L. Mabe and Hazel Lois Jean Asbury.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. The Rev. William Stout will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion cemetery, Mineral Wells.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the service at 2:30 p.m.
