CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Charles Franklin Adams, 85, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Sept. 20, 1913, in Ohio, he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Robinette Adams.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Adams; and his second wife, Pearl N. Adams.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was employed as a truck driver.
He was a member of American Legion Post 71.
He was of the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Younker of Needmore, Pa.; a son, Carl Adams of Needmore; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a great-niece, Sherree Manger and a great-great-nephew, Justin Matters, with whom he lived.
A graveside service will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Marriottsville, Md.
Arrangements are by Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson.
Mary A. Jones
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary Alice Jones, 65, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at City Hospital.
Born Jan. 9, 1933, in Rome, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Gus and Nina Boozer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Glen Jones.
She retired as restaurant manager of 76 Truck Stop.
She attended First Baptist Church of Inwood, W.Va.
She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Hazelwood of Lindale, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Shirley Hoover of Winchester, Va., and Louise Kline of Parrish, Fla.; two stepsons, Charles Jones of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Garry Jones of Martinsburg; four sisters, Dorothy Fuller, Betty Mae Roberson and Patricia Bonner, all of Rome, and Fannie Lee Horton of Winston, Ga.; a brother, David Boozer of East Point, Ga.; two grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rayden H. Jones; and a brother, Norman Landley.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Tim Butler will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clarence A. Holmes
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Clarence Arthur "Cunny" Holmes, 76, of Shepherdstown, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Nov. 8, 1921, in Shepherdstown, he was the son of the late George Roger Holmes and Clarissa Branson.
He was salutatorian of his graduating class from Shady Side School. He also attended Storer College, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
He retired from Badger Powhatan Co. in Ranson, W.Va. He also worked for Harry Stevens Co.
He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown.
He was a member of the original Shepherdstown Red Sox Baseball Organization.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Edith B. Holmes of Shepherdstown; two daughters, Teresa Lindsey Hughes and Rhonda M. Gales, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; seven sons, Clarence Washington and Dr. Robert Holmes, both of Atlanta, Ga., Stephen A. Holmes and Keith D. Holmes, both of Shepherdstown, Kevin "Chuck" Holmes, Barry W. Holmes and Carlton Ray Holmes, all of Martinsburg; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, George A. Holmes Jr.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, W.Va. 480, Shepherdstown. The Rev. Charles Hunter Jr. will officiate, with the Rev. Joe D. Liles assisting. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg.
James R. Jenkins
RANSON, W.Va. - James Robert Jenkins, 72, of Ranson, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at his home.
Born July 25, 1926, in Rappahannock County, Va., he was the son of the late Silas B. and Lela Fincham Jenkins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Virginia Breeden Jenkins.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Jenkins Gustines of Ranson and Judith Anne Wiley of Bolivar, W.Va.; four sisters, Mable Hanline and Jessie Hanline, both of Berryville, Va., Minnie Ashby of Winchester, Va., and Marie Jenkins of Gaylord, Va.; three brothers, Mack Jenkins and Norman Jenkins, both of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Richard Jenkins of Winchester; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Jenkins; and two brothers, Roy Jenkins and George Jenkins.
Graveside services will be at a later date at Edge Hill cemetery, Charles Town, W.Va.

William F. Sankbeil Jr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William Frank Sankbeil Jr., 71, of Martinsburg and formerly of Fairmont, W.Va., died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born April 18, 1927, in Fairmont, he was the son of the late William F. and Louise Ridgeway Sankbeil Sr.
He was a graduate of Fairmont High School; attended Fairmont State College; Kentucky Military Academy; and West Virginia University.
He retired in 1975 as a state trooper with the West Virginia State Police.
He was a member of Episcopalian Church, Princeton, W.Va.
He was a member of Masonic Temple in Princeton; and Fraternal Order of Police.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wanda Mauck Sankbeil; two sons, William F. Sankbeil III of Christiansburg, Va., and Vernon E. Sankbeil of Sharpsburg; and five grandchildren.
