MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ruth A. Anderson, 97, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 1998, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown.
Born March 5, 1901, in Jersey Shore, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence Jay and Emma Plank Giles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.O. "Andy" Anderson.
She attended schools in Hagerstown. She was a graduate of Columbia College of Business.
She was formerly employed by Cumberland Valley Railroad.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, a member of Bykota Sunday School Class and Womens Society.
In earlier years, she was a member of The Womens Club, City Hospital Auxiliary and the Daughters of 1812.
She was the last of her immediate family. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Al Clipp will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Francis A. Painter
KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Francis A. Painter, 83, of North Childs Road, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born May 5, 1915, in Charles Town, W.Va., he was the son of the late Raymond and Angie Fadeley Painter.
He owned and trained thoroughbred race horses at Charles Town Races.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was awarded two Bronze Stars.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Weller and Anna Magaha; and two brothers, Gerald Painter and Edgar Painter.
On Friday the seventh race at Charles Town Races will honor his memory. Friends may meet at the racetrack Friday at 8 p.m.
Burial will be private. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town.
Wilbert E. Kennan Sr.
RANSON, W.Va. - Wilbert Eugene Kennan Sr., 54, of 107 E. Third Ave., died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson.
Born Sept. 14, 1944, in Knoxville, Md., he was the son of the late Clarence W. Kennan Sr. and Leona Turner Kennan.
He was a retired carpenter with Butch Simons Construction in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by two daughters, Rose Ann Barron of Kearneysville, W.Va., and Charlotte Leona Taylor of Inwood, W.Va.; three sons, Charles Raymond Kennan of Charles Town, W.Va., Mack Lain Kennan and Wilbert E. Kennan Jr., both at home; two sisters, Mary Lou Davis of Sharpsburg and Catherine Cronise of Baltimore; three brothers, Ed Kennan and Buddy Kennan, both of Brunswick, Md., and Mike Kennan of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Butch Kennan and Clarence Kennan Jr.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry. The Rev. Doug Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Richard E. Byrd
HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Richard Elmo Byrd, 46, of Harpers Ferry, died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 21, 1952, in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clarence Elmo and Bonnie Jo Hull Byrd.
He was employed as a carpenter by Champion Brothers.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose in Middletown, Pa., and Mel's Club in Charles Town, W.Va.
He is survived by one daughter, Rickay Byrd of Harpers Ferry; two stepsons, Dillon Shaffner and Richard Sheetz, both of Middletown; one sister, Linda Jo Byrd of Laurel, Md.; one brother, Clarence Earl Byrd of Bluefield; three stepgrandchildren; and fiancee, Debra Riesner of Harpers Ferry.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Brady Ray Byrd.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, 114 W. Mildred St., Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. Kent Tice will officiate. Burial will be in St. Andrew's on the Mount cemetery.

Terry W. Grozinger
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Terry Wayne Grozinger, 52, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at City Hospital.
Born July 10, 1946, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John H. and Mary Jane Starliper Grozinger.
He was a 1964 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
He was retired from General Motors Corp. with 29 years service.
He served with the 167th Air Guard for 20 years.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at Arden, W.Va.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Martinsburg Lodge 120, Izaak Walton League, Hampshire County Hunting Club, and a charter member of Tri-State 4-Wheeler Club.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Unger Grozinger; one daughter, Kelli Ann Grozinger-Sine of Martinsburg; one son, John D. Grozinger of Martinsburg; one grandchild; and aunts, uncles and nephews.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at Arden. The Rev. John D. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery at Arden.
The family will receive friends today and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Samuel Lee Ferguson, 86, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at College View Center.
Born March 17, 1912, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles and Katie McDowell Ferguson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Lee Williams Ferguson.
He was a retired farmer.
He was a member of King's Apostle Holiness Church of God.
He is survived by seven daughters, Claudette Ferguson and Vanessa Stoner, both of Hagerstown, Minister Diana Smallman of Kearneysville, W.Va., Regina Neal of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Deborah Bowie of Frederick, Md., Hattie Harmon of Salisbury, Md., and Ellen Hough of Baltimore; five sons, Samuel Ferguson of Chambersburg, Jerry Ferguson of Hagerstown, John Ferguson of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., Calvin Ferguson of Charles Town and George Ferguson of Frederick; a brother, George Ferguson of Kearneysville; 27 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Sally Ferguson, Catherine Ferguson, Beulah Burrell, Isabell Jackson and Rose Ferguson; six brothers, Charles Ferguson, Harry Lee Ferguson, Richard Ferguson, John Ferguson, Robert Ferguson and Jerry Ferguson; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, Ranson, W.Va. Bishop Eugene E. Baltimore will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Charles Town.
