Eugene L. Snyder

1938-2006

Eugene L. Snyder, 68, of Cheyenne died July 13 in Cheyenne.

He was born March 5, 1938, in Eugene, Ore. He was an assistant manager at Auto Skills Center and a retired civil service worker. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He married Marilyn Hogan on May 16, 1959, in Greeley, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn; his parents, Francis and Elsie Snyder; two brothers, Bob Snyder and Ron Snyder; and a sister, Delores Hale.

He is survived by a son, Tim Snyder of Cheyenne; a brother, William Snyder of La Pine, Ore.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Schrader Chapel with the Rev. Delbert Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Beth El cemetery.

Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.

George C. Taylor

1936-2006

George C. Taylor, 69, died July 7 in Torrance, Calif.

Mr. Taylor was born July 31, 1936, in Cheyenne and lived here for 26 years.

He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and later received a master's degree in business. He served two years in the U.S Navy.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Donna M. Taylor; and his parents, Theron and Mary Taylor.

He later remarried and is survived by his wife, Lucreta K. Taylor-Morris; daughters, Teresa and Yvonne Taylor; son, Edward Taylor; and stepsons, Michael Morris and Greg Morris; and brother, Jack Taylor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to City of Hope or American Heart Association on behalf of the George C. Taylor Family.

Graveside service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake View cemetery. Following the service there will be an open house at 714 East 17th St. in Cheyenne to celebrate and remember his life.

Lena Rookh Williams

1912-2006

Lena Rookh Williams, 94, of St. Joseph, Mo., formerly of Cheyenne, died July 14 at Arbor View Healthcare and Rehabilitation in St. Joseph, Mo.

The daughter of William and Lezy Mapel Blankenship Overton, she was born Jan. 28, 1912 in Jerusalem, Ark. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester Williams; one daughter, Junita; and one son, L.D. Williams.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Williams; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rest Haven Memorial Park with Dan Lightfoot officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Camp Caudle, 857 SR 164, Hector, AR. 72843. An internet obituary may be found at Humphrey funeral.com.

Margaret Rose (Zell) Jackson

1939-2006

Margaret Rose (Maggie) Jackson died July 16 in Laramie.

She was born on June 3, 1939, in Cheyenne. She was the only daughter and second child of four born to Katherine (DuQuoin) Zell and Raymond Zell.

She attended school in Cheyenne and graduated from Cheyenne High in 1957, and later received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Commerce and Industry at the University of Wyoming in 1961.

Maggie enjoyed the years as a student at UW and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, where she served at various times as social chairman, song leader, vice president and chaplaine. She also sang in the Tri Delt Trio, and in a production of HMS Pinafore produced by the UW Department of Theater and Dance. She was an accomplished pianist, loved to sing and thoroughly enjoyed music throughout her life.

She married Gregg E. Jackson on June 25, 1961 at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel in Cheyenne in a service performed by the Rev. John M. Pattison. Mrs. Jackson worked at the office of the Dean of Men at UW until her first child Gayle Lynn Jackson was born in the fall of 1962. Her second child, Brad Michael Jackson, was born in 1966.

Mrs. Jackson loved being a mother and stayed at home caring for her children until they were in grade school. She then worked for consulting geologist Arnold Cunningham, and professor Paul Rechard at the Water Resources Research Institute on the UW campus.

She was a member of the presidential search committee which hired Dr. Terry Roark. Mrs Jackson later worked at the Old Main Offices of President Terry Roark and President Phillip Dubois for 13 years - a job which she loved.

Maggie retired in July of 2001 from her employment at the university.

She taught 4-H courses while her daughter was a member and was always involved in the activities of her children and events at the University of Wyoming.

She was a member of United Presbyterian Church, serving as a church deacon, and was a member of the "Do Gooders" group.

Mrs. Jackson was a member of the UW Symphony Association Board, volunteered for many years at Ivinson Memorial Hospital, Republican Women's Club , UW Alumni Club, Cowboy Joe Club and the Laramie Country Club.

She battled Type I Diabetes since the age of 25 and felt that regular exercise with friends, and the camaraderie they provided, prolonged her life and made it much more enjoyable.

Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by her parents Kathryn and Raymond Zell; and a younger brother, John Zell.

She is survived by her husband Gregg E. Jackson of Laramie; a daughter, Gayle Jackson Dilling and her husband Stephen of Port Orchard, Wash. and their daughters Morgan Kathryn and Olivia; a son, Brad Michael Jackson and wife Ty'Lene and their children Taylie Hope, Alston Gregg and Kinlie Ardith, allof Laramie; brothers, Ray Zell and wife Beth, of Cochrane, Alberta, and James Zell, wife Marie and their son James Brian of Cheyenne.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Fridayat United Presbyterian Church, 215 S. 11th Street in Laramie with the Very Reverend Marilyn Engstrom and Deacon Dick Naumann officiating.

Donations in Margaret Jackson's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Research for A Cure of Ovarian Cancer, or the Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center in care of Pam Fischer at the First National Bank, 501 Ivinson, Laramie, WY 82070.

Nell S. Hoy

1916-2006

Nell S. Hoy, 90, of Cheyenne, died July 17 in Cheyenne.

Mrs. Hoy was born March 19, 1916, in Lamesa, Texas, and had lived here for eight years.

She graduated from Texas School of Mines (now the University of Texas-El Paso) in 1939, receiving her bachelor's degree.

Mrs. Hoy taught school in Alamore, Texas, and was also a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Hoy of Cheyenne.

Mrs. Hoy was preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Hoy; her parents, Sullivan and Nellie Simpson; a brother, Harold Simpson; and two sisters, Helen Brady and Eleanor Jolliffe.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.

Memorial services will be held in Midland, Texas.

Friends may contribute to the Laramie County Library Foundation.

Charlesa M. Allen

1921-2006

Charlesa Mae Allen, 85, of Cheyenne, died Aug. 7 at the United Medical Center-East.

She was born March 1, 1921, in Corning, Iowa.

Mrs. Allen has been a resident of Cheyenne for the past five years and resided in Wheatland prior to that.

She was a retired bookkeeper from the Two Bar Ranch in Wheatland.

She attended the First United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Wheatland.

Mrs. Allen is survived by one daughter, Barbara M. Johnson of Cheyenne; one son, James L. Allen of Reno, Nev.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Wilma Bowlin of St. Joseph, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover D. Allen on May 6, 1987; her parents, Clifford and Alice Lee; three sisters; and one grandson.

The funeral is 1 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nadine Korhonen officiating.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Sam Johnson, Wesley Johnson, James D. Allen, David Zamora, Dave Zamora and David Wilhelm.

Interment will be in Okanogaen, Wash., at a later date.

Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Edna R. Lynch

1925-2006

Edna Roselle Lynch, 81, passed away at Life Care Center of Cheyenne on Aug. 7 following a rapid decline in health. Cremation has taken place.

On July 13, 1925, Edna Roselle Ledin was born in Halliday, N.D. The youngest daughter of Swedish immigrants, Alfred and Amelia (Erickson) Ledin, Edna had three siblings. Her brother Arthur was 20 years her senior. Other siblings included Ralph and Lisabet, who both died as children during an influenza epidemic. She grew up on the family homestead near Werner, N.D. and graduated from high school in Halliday. She attended a business college for two years in North Dakota then moved to San Francisco to work in the shipyards during World War II.

She and John Clifford Lynch, also from Halliday, were married on Nov. 30, 1945, in Kimball, Neb. They lived in Cheyenne from that time on. John was a driver for Greyhound Bus Lines for 32 years. John died in 1988.

Their only child, Cara, was born in 1954. She and her husband, Mike Lawrence, live in Torrington. They have three daughters: Kelsey, Mackenzie and Caitlin. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna chose to be called Roselle following her husband's death. She was also referred to as "Grandmother" by her granddaughters. Edna Roselle really enjoyed music. She learned to play the piano by ear and her style included polkas, hymns that sounded like polkas, and classical music with a syncopated beat. During the 1970s she often played the organ for services at Christ Lutheran Church where she was a member for more than 50 years. She also enjoyed the fine arts, symphony, theater and ballet. More recently she sang with a Cheyenne barbershop choir. But most of all she liked to travel. Whether her trips were to Europe, Scandinavia, somewhere "warm," or just a few miles away, any time was a good time to travel. In addition, she learned limited amounts of Swedish, French, German, and Spanish to supplement her travel experiences.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes. The Rev. Marvin Temme, Pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Torrington, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Our Savior Lutheran Church of Torrington or Christ Lutheran Church of Cheyenne would be appreciated by her family.

Esther Bertram

1923-2006

Esther Bertram, 83, of Cheyenne died Aug. 5 at Cheyenne Health Care Center.

She was born July 17, 1923, in Scottsbluff, Neb., and had lived here since 1993 with prior residence in Gering, Neb.

Mrs. Bertram was a pharmacy clerk at Super Drug in Scottsbluff before her retirement and was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Gering.

She is survived by one son, Ronald E. Bertram and his companion Kathy Hayes of Cheyenne; two daughters, Delores "Lori" and Ron Severson and Colleen Averill, all of Cheyenne; seven grandchildren, Jeff Severson, Brad Severson, John Bertram, Erin and Keith Turbitt, Stephanie and Trevor Benboe, Bryan and Sarah Averill and Sarah and Mario Castro; seven great-grandchildren, Sam Severson, Hanna Severson, Courtney Severson, Isabella Castro, Brodie Turbitt, Christopher Benboe and Alyssa Averill; one brother, Albert L Hart of Gering; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bertram was preceded in death by her husband, David Bertram, Jr., whom she married Nov. 18, 1944, in Harrisburg, Neb.; one son, Roger Dale Bertram; her parents, John Jacob and Eva Elizabeth Hart; one sister, Lydia Hart; and one son-in-law, Jonny Averill.

The funeral is at 10 a.m. today at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with Pastor Paul Everett officiating. Interment will be at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Severson, Brad Severson, John Bertram, Bryan Averill, Mario Castro, Keith Turbitt and Trevor Benboe.

Gladys I. Fillmore

1906 -2006

Gladys Irene Fillmore, 99, of Cheyenne died June 26 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Gladys was born Dec. 28, 1906, to Lillie and Harry Moede in Red Cloud, Neb. She attended schools in Webster County graduating from Inavale Public Schools in 1923. Gladys moved to Lincoln, Neb. to live with her grandparents. She moved to Laramie in 1925 and worked at The Kandy Kitchen and at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in admitting.

She and Earnest Fillmore were married Oct. 8, 1929 in Fort Collins, Colo. They were married for 58 years. In 1942, they moved to Cheyenne where Earnest worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and she was a homemaker. During the war, Gladys wrote to her brother, kept a war journal, and volunteered at the Red Cross. Gladys was office manager at Clinical Laboratories for 16 years. She lived in Cheyenne for 56 years.

Gladys was a bowler from 1942-1997, taking city and state honors including bowling in national tournaments. She was a UW football fan. Gladys was a member of Grace United Methodist Church she enjoyed being with her grandsons. In 1997, she moved to Salinas, Calif.

She came to Coeur d' Alene in 2004. Gladys attended McGrane Center, participated in activities and made friends, all of which enriched her mind and soul. The special care she received from Dr. Harry Downs, neighbors, staffs at Meals on Wheels, McGrane and Life care meant so much.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Alan Jones of Coeur d' Alene; grandsons and his wife, Ryan and Paula Jones of Sacramento, Calif., and Kenny Jones of Coeur d'Alene; sister, Evelyn Burwell of Red Cloud; sisters-in-law, Rose Moede of Cheyenne and Naomi Perry of Leadville, Colo.; nephew, Dan Moede of Cheyenne; and other family.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest of Cheyenne; her parents, Harry and Lillie Moede of Lincoln; brother, Donald H. Moede of Cheyenne; sisters, Helen Moede of Red Cloud and Stella Spaulding of Laramie, and other family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Cheyenne. If you are attending, please wear red - it was Gladys' favorite color. Inurnment is at Memorial Gardens.

Contributions to organizations that help the elderly would make Gladys happy.

Gladys always smiled - had a great sense of humor - never acted her age - member of the Greatest Generation - lived a full life - considered Wyoming her home!

Jesse Perez

1933-2006

Jesse Perez, 72, of Cheyenne, died Aug. 8 at his home in Cheyenne.

He was born Dec. 14, 1933, in Austin, Texas and had lived here since 1944.

He worked for Taylor Pontiac for numerous years, John Black Construction and was co-owner of C&J Auto Body where he retired from.

Mr. Perez is survived by five daughters, Helen Martinez, Patricia Perez, Betty Ann Tafoya and Jessica Perez, all of Cheyenne and Geraldine Haight of Denver; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Jesus and Carmen Perez; his mother, Candaleria Perez; two brothers, Joe Perez and Frank Perez; and two sisters, Aurora Martinez and Mary L. Romero.

A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Olivet cemetery with the Rev. Ray moss officiating.

Pallbearers will be James Haight, Jesse Haight, Chris Bois, Aaron Bird, Phillip Tafoya and Matthew Klink.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tim McCommon, Daniel Allen, Gustavo Perez and Andy Davilla.

Friends may contribute to the Jesse Perez Memorial Fund in care of Julia Perez, 603 E. Sixth St., Cheyenne, WY 82001.

Larry L. Laird

1938-2006

Larry L. Laird, 67, formerly of Cheyenne, died Aug. 5 in Des Moines, Iowa.

He was born Aug. 22, 1938, in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Larry retired from the Air Force in Cheyenne in 1976 and worked for DePaul Hospital, Warren Federal Credit Union and Unicover Corporation.

Larry was active in St. Mary's Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife Lorrena of Des Moines; three sons, Tony Laird of Cheyenne, Larry Laird Jr. of Denver and Mark Laird of Rockton, Ill; sisters Elladeen McGahuey Briggs of Mount Ayr, Garnita Ewart of Bedford, Iowa and Kathie Kniskern of Branson, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Laird Knapp; and one brother.

The funeral was held Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines.

Arrangements are under the direction of Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines.
