Edward J. Koinskie Sr.,
Elks past executer ruler
Edward J. Koinskie Sr., 74, of Lewes, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford.
He was born June 11, 1930 in Maysville, Pa., to the late John and Mamie “Metracavage” Koinski. Mr. Koinskie formerly attended St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church. He had worked 30 years for the former Philadelphia Electric Company retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Cape Henlopen BPOE Elks Lodge 2340, where he was a past executer ruler. He had also served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife Pauline “Wolski” Koinskie; his daughter, Denise Honaker of Smyrna; his son, Edward J. Koinskie Jr. of Greer, S.C.; two sisters, Beatrice Fisher of Morton, Pa., and Elizabeth Cuttic of Roselle, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 26, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where Elk services will be he at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 27, at St. Jude The Apostle Church on Route 1 at Five Points. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 North Lake View Ave., Chicago, IL 60614; or to Bayhealth Milford Medical Center, 21 West Clarke Ave., Milford, DE 19963.
Marie Essington Kohler,
ardent bowler
Marie Essington Kohler of Millsboro, 89, died Thursday, April 21, 2005, in Green Valley Terrace Nursing Home, Millsboro.
Mrs. Kohler was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, West Indies, one of six children. She came to the United States at the age of 5 and resided in the New Jersey area. After she married her husband, they lived in Nutley, N.J.
She loved reading, crossword puzzles and major league baseball, particularly the Yankees and the Mets. She also enjoyed bowling and was on a bowling league until she was 70 years old. She also was a former youth bowling instructor at the Cardinal lanes in Nutley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Francis “Chick” Kohler; and a son, Lawrence.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marjorie and Robert Cameron, Nancy and James Parramore and Norma Jean Phillips; a son and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Carolyn Kohler; six grandchildren, Billy Parramore, Bobby Parramore, Jody Trinchet, Christie Zawtocki, Laura Kohler and Christopher Kohler; and seven great-grandchildren, Laurren Parramore, Rabekah Parramore, Auston Parramore, Camden Parramore, Clare Trinchet, Ryan Trinchet and Stephanie Zawtocki.
Services were held April 23 in the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View.
Burial will be private.
Willis A. Smith Jr.
Boy Scout supporter
Willis A. Smith Jr. of Millsboro, 60, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, after being stricken, apparently with a heart attack, while working on a project at the Henson Scout Reservation near Sharptown, Md.
Mr. Smith was born in Trenton, N.J., son of Marian V. Walther Smith of Millsboro and the late Willis A. Smith Sr.
He was the co-owner and operator of Middlesex Building and Roofing Supply, a family owned business in Millsboro, for the past 30 years.
Mr. Smith was a member and trustee of Grace United Methodist Church, Millsboro, and was assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scouts of America Troop 89, Millsboro, and a former member and past president of the Millsboro Fire Company.
He is survived by his mother, Marian V. Walther Smith of Millsboro; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karen S. and Mike Delp of Felton, Deneen M. and Mark Rowe of Georgetown and Lena Eaton of Lewes; his friend and companion, Ann W. Wolter of Millsboro; his former wife, Kathleen Smith of Millsboro; a sister, Viola McLaughlin of Dover; and three grandchildren, Erin Rowe, Eric Rowe and Ashley Eaton.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro.
Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, April 28, in Grace United Methodist Church, Church and Morris streets, Millsboro, where friends also may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Rob Townsend will officiate.
Burial will be in Millsboro cemetery , Millsboro.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Grace United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 566, Millsboro, DE 19966; or to Millsboro Hut Inc., PO Box 51, Millsboro, DE 19966.
Evelyn S. Evensen,
Dover volunteer
Evelyn S. Evensen, 90, of Dover, died Saturday, April 23, 2005, at Bay Health Medical Center, Milford.
Mrs. Evensen was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Samuel and Emma (Anderson) Nielson. She was a homemaker, and had served as a volunteer at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Evensen in 1974.
She is survived by two nephews, Arnold R. Olsen of Dover and Robert Olsen, of Georgetown; three great-nephews and four-great nieces.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday April 28, at Union cemetery , Georgetown. There will be no viewing. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Georgetown.
Mabel C. Hughes,
centenarian
Mabel C. Hughes, 103, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Friday, April 22, 2005, at her residence.
She was born on Feb. 13, 1902 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late John Cregg and the late Anna (Howell) Cregg.
In 1942 she moved to Rehoboth Beach with her beloved husband, the late William Hughes.
Services and interment were private.

The life of long-time Lewes resident, Geneva Pepper Morris, who died in Minnesota March 5, 2005, at the age of 92, will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, April 29, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Fourth Street in Lewes.
Interment of her ashes will be at Coolspring Presbyterian Church cemetery
at 9:30 a.m., April 29.
Nancy B. Thoroughgood,
loved horses, worked at Capriotti's
Nancy B. Thoroughgood, 48, of Georgetown, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Nancy was born May 12, 1956 to James “Sparky” and Barbara “Butz” Thoroughgood.
Ms. Thoroughgood was employed by Capriotti’s Sub Shop. Nancy loved the outdoors, she worked with bird dogs, she was an avid hunter and she enjoyed riding motorcycles.
In addition to her parents, Nancy is survived by her young son, George Marker of Lewes; a step-sister, Suzanne Adair of Washington, D.C.; a stepbrother, William White of Gaithersburg, Md., and her closest companion, Keith Stockton.
Funeral services will be held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, at 3 p.m., Friday, April 22, with Pastors David Monroe and Jack Abel officiating.
Friends may call one hour earlier. Interment will follow at All Saints Episcopal cemetery
in Angola, DE.
Jay Gray Sipple,
retired state trooper
Retired Delaware State Police Lt. Jay Gray Sipple, 60, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at home with his family by his side.
Mr. Sipple was born Nov. 8, 1944, in Milford, the son of the late Howard L. and Mary Fisher Sipple.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and retired in 1994 as a lieutenant with the Delaware State Police, having served on the force for 23 years.
Jay enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing, but his greatest joy was entertaining his grandchildren. Mr. Sipple was a member of Jefferson Lodge No. 15 A.F.&A.M. of Lewes and a member of White’s Chapel United Methodist Church of Milton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred W. Sipple.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna B. Sipple; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jana R. and Michael Simpler of Milton, Kristina and Tyler Whitman of Lincoln and Kelly and Robert Cykosky of Millville; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard L. Jr. and Louise Sipple of Greenwood; four grandchildren, Zachary and Wyatt Simpler and Jeremy and Emily Whitman; and two very special others, his dog, Kang, and his cat, Sam.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 22, at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 North Church St., Milford, where friends may greet the family after 9:30 a.m. Burial will be private.
The family suggests contributions to the Bayhealth Foundation, 640 S. State St., Dover DE 19901.

Milton homemaker
Georgia E. Waples, 88, of Milton, died of natural causes Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Lewes Convalescent Center.
A native of Milford, Mrs. Waples was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Waples; a daughter, Dorothy Powell; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and all of her sisters and brothers.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Georgianna and Henry Jackson of Milford; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and a great-nephew.
Services were held in Community Pentacostal Church of God, Houston, with burial in Old Hickory cemetery , Slaughter Neck.
Harvey L. Berry,
owned repair business
Harvey L. Berry, 84, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Friday, April 15, 2005.
Mr. Berry was born June 9, 1920 and raised in Port Norris, N.J., where his family owned and operated an oyster business.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and settled in Philadelphia after the war.
He worked as a garage foreman at the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper before moving to Delaware in 1961 where he established his own small engine repair business in the Oak Orchard/Angola area.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette, of 55 years, who passed away in 1995.
He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Ann Lafferty of Rehoboth Beach; a granddaughter, Donna Ray Berry of New Bern, N.C.; a grandson, Michael William Lafferty of Rehoboth Beach; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Herman Berry Sr., Harold Hickman, Glendon Berry, Don Berry Sr. and Phil Berry; a sister, Janet Faye Hickman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was loved by all and had many “adopted” kids and grandkids who cared for him deeply and will miss him greatly.
A memorial service will be held at noon, Friday, April 29, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck, Millsboro, with burial private.

Jane W. McCallister,
museum worker
Jane Worrall McCallister, 63, died Saturday, April 16, 2005, peacefully at home.
Mrs. McCallister was born Nov. 8, 1941, in Kennett Square, Pa., daughter of the late Thomas B. and Rachel Worrall. She graduated from Penn Hall, Chambersburg, Pa., and also attended Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. She lived in Glenside, Pa. until she and her husband, Carol, built their home in Parkwood, Wilmington, where they raised their three sons. Jane worked for 16 years in her home, caring for her family as no one else could. Although holding numerous work positions thereafter, her last and favorite was the Delaware Museum of Natural History, where she was membership manager.
Of her many talents, Jane enjoyed sewing most of all and made various items, mostly for children and for sale in the museum gift shop. She will be remembered as a loving wife, a caring mother and our best friend. Her spark and zest for life touched many in too few years.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Carl “Tip” McCallister; her three sons, Brian W. McCallister and his fiancée, Joy E. Gamble of Bryn Mawr, Pa., Eric W. McCallister of Stratham, N.H. and Keith N. McCallister of Cody, Wyo.; and a brother, Thomas Worrall Jr. of Angola By The Bay, Lewes.
Memorial services were held with burial in Union Hill cemetery , Kennett Square.
