Services for Gertrude M. Zirkel, 92, of Davenport, are 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Anthony's Catholic, Davenport. Burial is in Mt. Calvary cemetery , Davenport. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport.

She died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005, at Genesis West, Davenport.

She was born March 28, 1913, to Joseph and Margaret Schwab. She married George Zirkel May 14, 1940. He preceded her in death May 8, 1992.

Survivors are son, Robert J., Walcott; grandsons, Jason and Brian, both Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carl Pippenger
Carl Eugene Pippenger, 64, of Rock Island, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.

Arrangements are pending at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Goldie Robertson
Goldie Mae Robertson, 90, formerly of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Fayette County Memorial Hospital in Washington Courthouse, Ohio.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be at National cemetery , Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Goldie was born Jan. 20, 1916, in Gifford, Mo., the daughter of William and Zella Shipman Passmore. She married Reco Robertson Jan. 27, 1934, in Palmyra, Mo. He died April 27, 1989.

She was an assistant manager at the 14th Avenue and Highland Laundromats in Rock Island for over 20 years. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, traveling and being with her family.

Survivors (and spouses) include daughters Patricia (Rev. Donald) Dillon, Washington Courthouse, Linda (Greg) Smith, Granger, Ind., and Leona (Willie) Dixon, Davenport; sons, Tommie (Priscilla) Robertson, Moline, and John Robertson, Rock Island; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband Goldie was preceded in death by a son Jerry Robertson; a granddaughter and two grandsons.

Helen Billmire
Helen Billmire, 98, family matriarch, world traveler, and church supporter.

There were few places Helen Billmire wouldn't explore and there were few people she didn't enjoy. Throughout her life, she showed a passion for her community, her church, and her family.

Helen Billmire, 98, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, in Phoenix, Ariz., in the home of her daughter.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, with a visitaton one hour prior to service time at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. The Rev. Bill Knapp of St. Marks Episcopal Church will preside. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

She was born Oct. 9, 1907, in Rock Falls, Ill., to Edith Ella (Cuppernull) and William Elmer Hill. She graduated from Sterling (Illinois) High School where she met her future husband, Frank Billmire. She also attended Peoria University.

Frank and Helen were married in 1927. Frank and Helen had two children -- Frank William and Elizabeth Joanne. In 1963, Helen and Frank moved to Moline, where Frank began his own business -- Select Machine Sales. Helen worked many years as the administrative assistant for the company. They had been married 57 years at the time of the death of her husband in 1984.

Throughout her life, Helen was active in the Episcopal Church. She taught and directed Sunday school classes in St. Mathews Church in Evanston, she and her late husband were charter members of St. Marks Episcopal Church in Silvis, and she actively participated in all aspects of parish life. In addition, she was a long time and active member of the Eastern Star, the women's auxiliary of the Grand Commandry, and celebrated her husband's service as the Eminent Grand Commander of Illinois from 1982-1983.

In 1992 Helen Billmire moved to Phoenix to live with her daughter Elizabeth. It was during these later years that Helen traveled the world, most recently China, South Africa, Australia and Europe. Helen actively supported the scientific efforts of her daughter and son-in-law and in recognition of this support, in 2002 she was elected an honorary member of the Boehmische Physical Society, a distinguished international scientific organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her son Frank William, and her daughter-in-law, Iris. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law James Walter Mayer; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Catherine `Sue' Holub
The service for Catherine "Sue" Holub will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Bettendorf Christian Church, 3487 Towne Pointe Drive, Bettendorf.

Olga `Brooks' Swanson
Olga "Brooks" Swanson, 84, of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of Moline died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in Nebraska.

Arrangements are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Moline.

Revella Vorhies
Revella Rae Vorhies, 59, of Moline died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at her home in Moline.

A memorial service will be held at a late date. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Revella Rae Grobman was born Feb. 14, 1946, to Robert and Ann (Willie) Grobman in Moline. She married Randy Vorhies Oct. 10, 1964, in Moline.

She was employed at the Sears Service Center in Moline for 15 years, then moved to Sears at SouthPark Mall for approximately five years. Revella enjoyed long walks with her dogs, gardening and working.

Survivors (and spouse) include her husband, Randy Vorhies, Moline; daughter, Kimberly Vorhies, Moline; sons, Kurt Vorhies and Kent (Jennifer) Vorhies, both of Moline; grandchildren, Hannah, Daniel, Katlyn and Bradley; a brother, Bruce Grobman, Colorado; and stepfather, Milton Johnson, Moline. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Grobman; her father, Robert Grobman; and granddaughter, Brittany.

Walter Kays Jr.
Funeral services for Walter Carl Kays Jr., 73, East Moline, are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline, or to the American Lung Association.

Walt died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

Walter was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Princeton, Ind., the son of Walter Kays and Corlinda (Tisdal) Kays Sr. He married Sharon Tisdale Dec. 18, 1965, in Galesburg.

He retired in 1994 as a punch press operator from East Moline Metal Products, Inc.

Survivors (and spouses) include his wife of 40 years, Sharon; children, Lori (Mike) Spray, Taylor Ridge, Kevin Lothridge, Silvis, Kelly Sims, Moline, Karen (Doug) Lanzen, Port Byron, Rebecca Kays, Carbon Cliff; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters Anna (Edward) Johnson, Shirley (Eddie) Massey, both of Granite City, Ill., Rosetta (Terry) Zink, Collinsville, Ill.; brothers Jerry Kays, Silvis, and Robert (Sharon) Kays, Granite City and several nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Bertha Donohue.

John DeJonghe
John R. DeJonghe, 84, of Milan died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Burial will be at St. Mary's cemetery , East Moline where military rites will be performed by Moline American Legion, Post 246. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Telephone Pioneers or Alzheimers Association, Mississippi Valley Chapter.

John was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Moline, the son of Rene and Louise Garnier DeJonghe.

He worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Company as an installer and repairman for 33 years before retiring in 1979. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers and Moline American Legion Post 246.

In 1939 he served with the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was an Army veteran and was activated with the 123 Field artillery of the National Guard. He later went on to serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II. John loved to fish and hunt.

Survivors and spouses include brothers, George and Marcella DeJonghe, Milan, Albert and Barbara DeJonghe, Moline; sister, Alyce Washburn, East Moline; sister-in-law, Joann DeJonghe, Moline; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a brother, Robert DeJonghe.

Frederic Beyhl Jr.
Frederic Graf Beyhl, Jr., 81, of Port Byron, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Union Congregational Church, 1811 53rd Street, Moline. A graveside military burial will be held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Gibson Funeral Home at 202 North Main Street, Port Byron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Congregational Church or the Alzheimers Association.

Fred was born Oct. 2 1924, in Stockton, Ill., the son of Fred and Mary Beyhl. He married Delores Hultgren July 28, 1944, at the Naval Air Station, San Diego, Calif.

Mr. Beyhl worked for John Deere and Company for 37 years, starting at the plant in Dubuque, Iowa, and later at the John Deere administration building in Moline, retiring in 1982. He served his country during World War II in the Navy as an aviation electronics man from May 1943 to December 1945.

He was an avid fisherman, loved to sing, collect stamps and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors and spouses include his wife Delores; sons, Roger Beyhl, Iowa City Iowa, David (Deb) Beyhl, Bettendorf, Randy (Bonnie) Beyhl, Davenport, Mark (Alecia) Beyhl, Peoria, Ill.; daughters, Pat (Pete) Thorndike, East Moline, Mary Drobuschevich, East Moline, Julia Flynn, Geneseo, Linda (Bob) Powell, Edgewater, Fla., Sara (Todd) Leach, Roscoe, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother Dean (Bernice) Beyhl, Moline; sisters, Adele (Raymond) Daack, Paducah, Ky., Lolly (Robert) Goedert, Dubuque, Sally (George) Haas, Dubuque, Karen (Don) Heath, Coon Rapids, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sisters; Willard (Myrtle) Wagner, Alyce (Herb) Grewe, Madelyn (Robert) Smith, Doris (George) Peil.

Beulah `Butch' Carlson
Beulah R. "Butch" Carlson, 93, of Stronghurst, Ill., died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center, Stronghurst.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in the Banks & Beals Funeral Home, Stronghurst, with the Rev. James Olsen officiating. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals, where the family will be present from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials have been established for Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center, Stronghurst United Methodist Church and the Stronghurst Ambulance Service.

She was born Oct. 29, 1912, in Oquawka, Ill., the daughter of William and Mae Coghill Radmacher. On Aug. 6, 1939, she married Carl L. Carlson in Monmouth, Ill. He preceded her in death Feb. 28, 1996.

Mrs. Carlson farmed with her husband in Bald Bluff, Biggsville, Ill., and for 40 years in Point Pleasant Township. She moved to Stronghurst in 1980. She was a member of Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors (and spouses) include three daughters, Joyce Omer, Pinehurst, N.C., Marjorie Ann (Larry) Schaumleffel, Woodstock, Ga., and Mary Louise (Leonard) Knox, Reynolds; one son, William (Iva) Carlson, Biggsville; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Coleman Radmacher and one sister, Bertha Wilson.

Wayne Dersham
Wayne L. Dersham, 82, of Erie died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fenton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Sharon cemetery , Erie. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Memorials may be made to the church.

Mr. Dersham was born June 18, 1923, in Erie, the son of LeRoy and Florence Hill Dersham. He married Frances Marsh Nov. 30, 1942, in Canton, Mo.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Dersham was a machinist and welder having worked at International Harvester, AMETEC and the Moline Metals. He owned and operated the Mohawk Machine and Welding for many years. He had also farmed.

He was a member of the Fenton United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge, Clinton, the Eagles, Clinton and the Erie American Legion. He formed and managed the Country Eagles Band. He enjoyed fishing, camping and his three Dachshund dogs, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family.

Survivors include his wife; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Paul Manon, Fenton, Rita and Richard Haan, Chadwick and Karen and Rus Wiersema, Fulton; 16 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren and 14 stepgreat-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Gene Dersham in 1993.

Leland Pearson
Leland E. Pearson, 76, of Galva, died at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at his home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Rux Funeral Home, Galva. The Rev. James Hancock will officiate. Burial will be in Galva cemetery . Military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Kidney Foundation or to the Galva Park District.

He was born Jan. 22, 1930, in rural Galva, the son of Nels and Frieda (Nelson) Pearson. He married Elva Mae Bargmann on April 7, 1961, in Davenport. She preceded him in death March 3, 1973.

He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict in the South Pacific. He and his brother, Vernon, formed Pearson Bros. in Galva in 1961 and maintained that business until the early 1980s. He was the owner and operator of I.M.E. and Pearson American Machines and then L.M.T. in Galva until his death. Over the years, he had received numerous citations and awards for his patents and product innovations and was the subject of an industry-wide publication for the companies' waste management products. As an industry leader in waste management products, he was instrumental in helping others develop companies and businesses associated with supplemental products world-wide.

Survivors (and spouses) include two daughters, Natalie (Mike) Fenneman, Iowa City, Iowa, and Pamela (Dean) Jones, Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren, Andrew and Elena Fenneman and Michael Jones; one brother, Vernon Pearson, Lajoya, Calif.; and one sister, Arlene Cemeska, Chillicothe, Ill. Also preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Willard, Ivan and Arthur and one sister, Irene.

Jacob Whipple-Wakeland
Jacob A. Whipple-Wakeland, New Boston, died at birth Jan. 26, 2006, at Trinity Medical Center, Moline.

Services are 9 a.m. Tuesday at Greenview Memorial Gardens Chapel, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens.

Survivors (and spouses) are his parents, Amber Whipple and Barry Wakeland, both of New Boston; brothers, Dallas and Seth Wakeland; grandparents, Patricia (David) Anderson, Colona; Richard (Betty Dobe) Whipple, East Moline, Pete Gomez, New Boston, and Terri Wakeland, New Boston; great-grandparents, Mary and Elmer Hepner, Wilma Wakeland, Elvira Gomez, Elizabeth Keim and Walt Whipple; and several aunts and uncles.

Marvin `Doc' Farley
Marvin "Doc" Farley, 66, of Blue Grass died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006.
