HARRISBURG -- John L. Sisky, 65, died at 9:57 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at his daughter's home in Granite City. In accordance with his wishes, his body has been cremated. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Reed Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. John Pejakovich officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel. He was a retired Coca-Cola repairman. He was born Aug. 10, 1936, in Harrisburg, to Walter Sisky and Josephine Cooley. He is survived by his former wife, Barbara Sisky; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Greg Cowger of Carrier Mills, Janet and Ray Crews of Granite City, and Kim and Tony Thompson of Harrisburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin Sisky of Lapeer, Mich., and John and Becky Sisky of Portland, Ore.; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and LArry Bowers; a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Clara Sisky; nine grandchildren, Nicholas and Cody Cowger, Melissa and Hannah Thompson, Kevin Sisky, Richard and Crystal Cooper, and Amber and Tiffany Tolley; and four great grandchildren, Kayle Cooper, and McKenzie, Shelbie, and Alexis Headrick. He is preceded in death by two brothers and a half brother, Harry, Frank, and Walter Sisky.

John Robert Miller
BENTON -- John Robert Miller, 74, died Saturday, Aug. 3. 2002, at his home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Hobbs Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Little Springs Cemetery in Hamilton County. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Miller was born on Nov. 3, 1927, in Twigg Township, Hamilton County, the oldest of four children of George Hilary and Nancy Caroline (Hamilton) Miller. He married the former Anita Link on June 14, 1951, and she survives. He was a retired high school teacher having taught English and speech at Benton High School and was a U. S. Navy veteran. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert L. Miller of Benton; a daughter and son-in-law, Oneida Arm and Sean M. Murphy, of Naperville; three grandchildren, Allison, Andrea, and Amanda Hill; a brother and sister-in-law, Mark E. and Frances Miller of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Beth and Bob G. Gower of Houston, Tx. and Brenda J. and Edwin E. Sheraden of Goodlettesville, Tenn. Mr. Miller was predeceased by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Children's Home, Route 4, Carmi, IL., 62821, or to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 305 S. Illinois St., Belleville, IL., 62220. Carlie R. Hutchings
COLUMBIA -- Carlie R. Hutchings, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis. He retired as an expeditor after 27 years at McDonnell Douglas, Inc. in St. Louis. He was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Tamaroa, the son of Marion and Mae (Harris) Hutchings. On March 20, 1942, he married Virginia M. O'Keefe in Perryville, Mo. She preceded him in death. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He served in World War II in the U. S. Army. He was also a member of the Columbia Gymnastic Association and the Special Police of Columbia. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald R. and Sherry Hutchings and Col. Rob K. and Brenda Hutchings; two daughters and sons-in-law, Guyla and Dean Reichert and Carla and John Munton; seven grandchildren, Deanna Hoffman, Steven Reichert, Ken Htchings, Jeff Hutchings, Rob Hutchings, Jessica Munton, and Erica Munton; four great grandchildren, Stephanie and Nathan Hoffman, and Abigail and Bailey Reichert; a sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Willard Kellerman; a loving companion, Pat Hall, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Bethany United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Chase officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lawlor Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church in Columbia.

Carl L. Garner
ANNA -- Carl L. Garner, 78, died 5:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Union Co. Hospital. He was born Dec. 11, 1923, in Cobden, the son of William and Lona Nicholson Garner. He married Helen Caraker on Aug. 24, 1946, in Piggott, Ark. He is survived by his wife, Helen Garner; a sister, Ruby Yates of Cobden; three sisters-in-law Helen Garner of Anna, Zelma Yates of Lake of Egypt, and Lavada Henderson of Anna; and several nieces and nephews. Carl was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a Staff Sgt. in the Army during World War II and was in the Philippines, Luzon and New Guinea campaigns. He was a truck driver for over 40 years, with the former International Shoe and Florsheim Shoe Companies. He was a life member of the Anna VFW and the Anna American Legion. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Sadler and the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Interment with full military honors by the Anna VFW Post 3455 will be in the Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and until the funeral hour Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Anna.

Mitchell W. George
COBDEN -- Mitchell W. George, 47, of Carmel, Maine, and formerly of Cobden, died suddenly of natural causes at 2 p.m. Friday Aug. 2, 2002, at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Joey McKinnies officiating. Burial will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. He was a carpenter and a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Cobden. He was born May 23,1955, in Cobden, the son of Leslie and Mary Ann (Dangbar) George. He married Donna Day Sept. 6, 1988, in Augusta, Ga. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Shannon Marie George of Carmel; three stepsons, Jerry Hedgecock of Muscatine, Iowa, Bill Hedgecock of Ottumwa, lowa, and Tony Hedgecock of Dearing, Ga.; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Charlene Holderfield, Shirley Jones, Rosemary Cates, and Pauline and Jim Dillow, all of Cobden, and Sally and Greg Wright of Salem; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and a sister.

Hillis Bass
METROPOLIS -- Hillis Eugene Bass, 66, died at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Lourdes Hospice, 616 Market St. Metropolis, IL. 62960 or the Cancer Society, c/o Joan Fletcher, 2707 North Ave. Metropolis, IL. 62960.

Bonita A. Meade
GRAND TOWER -- Bonita A. Meade, 71, died at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Grand Tower, with the Rev. Donald Grammer officiating. Burial will be in Walker Hill. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She was also a member of VFW Womens Auxiliary. Bonita was born April 11, 1931, to Eva Cripps. On Aug. 15, 1951, she married Doyle Meade in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1986. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law; Gary and Nina Meade of Round Lake Beach, Robert and Kathleen Meade of Granite City, and George Meade and special friend, Kathy, of Grand Tower; a brother, Charles Cripps; seven grandchildren, Douglas of Cobden, George and Daniel of Granite City, Gary, Joseph, and Jennifer of Round Lake Beach, and Rochelle of Hawaii; and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Esther Cripps.

Adelle Mills Hewette
CARBONDALE -- Adelle Mills Hewette, 84, died at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at her home. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel, with the Rev. Stephen Combs officiating. Entombment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Memorial Park Mausoleum. She was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Calhoun, La., the daughter of Walter Allen and Ethel (Slaughter) Mills. She married James Hewette and he preceded her in death in 2001. She resided in Carbondale the past 42 years. She was a graduate of San Jose State in California after attending Louisiana Polytechnic at Ruston, La., and taught home arts at Centralia schools. She was also an assistant food manager for SIUC at Thompson Point and Woody Hall. She loved gardening and cooking. Survivors include two daughters, Amber Hewette of Carbondale and Glynn Walker of Norwalk, Conn.; one son, James B. Hewette Jr. Or San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; one great grandson; and three sisters, Mildred Younse and Doris Naff, both of Monroe, La., and Ruth Beadle of Magnolia, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, and two sisters.

Bruce Leon Brown
WOLF LAKE -- Mr. Bruce Leon Brown, 75, died at 4:12 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at the Union Co. Hospital in Anna. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Jonesboro Cemetery, with the Rev. Jim Stamp officiating. Burial will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery, with military honors by the Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455. Visitation will be after 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna. Mr. Brown was a retired operating engineer, a member of th Local No. 318, a veteran, and member of the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 of the VFW in Anna. He was born July 30, 1926, at Union County, the son of William Otis and Verda Jane Burnett Brown. Bruce is survived by a step-brother, Bill Casey of Jonesboro and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers and four sisters.

Timothy Edmund Daniels
MOUNT VERNON -- Timothy Edmund Daniels, 47, died at 6 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, at Crossroads Community Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Everett Lemay officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel. Hughey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Heart Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Glenn Dillon
GALATIA -- Glenn Ivan Dillon Jr., 83, died ay 6:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Harrisburg Medical Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sloan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Robert Helbig
TAMAROA -- Robert Eugene Helbig, 52, died at 11:47 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at his home. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Searby Funeral Home.

Helen Bricker Green
CARBONDALE -- Helen Green, born Helen Frances Bricker on Sept. 9, 1914, to Flora E. Tripp Bricker and George Sylvester Bricker, entered eternal life on July 10, 2002. Born and raised in Carbondale, Mrs. Green retired Southern Illinois University. She began her teaching career at Brush School at the age of 19. She later moved to Chicago where she studied dress design at the Art Institute. On August 12, 1938, she married Marc Green of Anna. They lived in Chicago, later moving to Elgin, and subsequently to Western Springs. Mrs. Green was regarded as a master teacher by her colleagues and had a lifelong love of children that animated her work. She retired from the public school system of Western Springs. After her retirement she and her husband returned to Carbondale to assist her mother. In 1982 they moved to Grosse Pointe Park, Mich., to be near their daughter, Fran, and granddaughters. In 2000, after the death of her husband, she and tier daughter, Marcia, moved together to a home in Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich. Mrs. Green was an active member of Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, where she had served as a deacon and especially enjoyed work and fellowship with the sewing group. She was a member of PEO Chapter DB. In Carbondale she had been active in the First Christian Church, and the Carbondale Women's Club. She had enjoyed volunteering at Trombley Elementary School and tutoring at the Dominican Literacy Center before her health prevented her from continuing. She loved children, sewing, swimming, biking, reading, playing the piano, and above all, her family. Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Marc, and by her brothers Herbert and Eugene. She is survived by her son, Mike Green of Prince George, British Columbia; her daughters, Marcia Green of Grosse Pointe Woods, and Fran Twiddy of Grosse Pointe Farms; her granddaughters, Beth and Megan Twiddy; five nephews; two nieces; and 12 grandnephews and nieces. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Helen Bricker Green will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Anna City Cemetery, with the Rev. Katherine Graves officiating. Interment will be in the Anna cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Carbondale, the Dominican Literacy Center: and to PEO., all in care of the First Christian Church, P. O. Box 8, Carbondale, Il. 62903-0008. Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Paul Stanley Pearce
ANNA -- Paul Stanley Pearce, 86, of Anna, died at 1 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Anna., the son of William Elijah and Amanda Pyles Pearce. He married Gladys N. Bean, who preceded him in death. Paul was a member of the Anna United Methodist Church, and was a retired barber in Anna since 1951. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the 82nd Airborne in the Normandy invasion. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4 at the Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Allen Campbell, pastor of the Anna United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery with full military honors by the Anna VFW Post #3455. Friends may call the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after noon on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the Anna United Methodist Church. Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of the arrangements.

Erica Leigh Swiatkowski
MURPHYSBORO -- Erica Leigh Swiatkowski, 19, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002 in Juneau, Alaska as the result of injuries received in a motorcyle accident. Survivors include her mother, Norma Ruth Nielsen of Sitka, Alaska; father, Dr. Terry Swiatkowski of Kodiak, Alaska; sister, Stefani Swiatkowski of Kodiak, Alaska; grandparents, Ernie and Imogene Nielsen of Murphysboro and Stephen and Clara Swiatkowski of the Seattle, Washington area; fianc, Ryan Kitka of Juneau; aunts and uncles, Lynn and Tom Walters of the Seattle, Washington area; Dr. Karen and Louis Strack, Mary Lynn and Larry Powell, Sue and Eric Vana and Becky Reiman, all of Murphysboro and cousins, Katie and Louis Strack, Samuel Powell, Quinn, Isaac and Niel Vana, Bethany and Jacob Reiman, all of Murphysboro and Peter and Clare Marie Walters of Seattle. She was born June 8, 1983 in Murphysboro. She loved motorcycles and to jet ski and was beginning automotive studies. Arrangements are being handled by Prewitt Funeral Home of Juneau.

Lyda V. Webb
DU QUOIN -- Lyda V. Webb, 83, of DuQuoin, passed away at 11:09 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2002 at Fairview Nursing Home in DuQuoin. Lyda was born on July 30, 1919 in Thompsonville, to William Lon and Minnie Mae (Martin) Duke. She married Leslie M. Webb on November 2,1940 in Paducah. He preceded her in death on February 27, 1987. Webb was of Pentecost faith. She was a member of, and taught the Beginners Sunday School Class at Royalton Apostolic Church. When she was able Lyda enjoyed sewing, cooking (she once sold enough pies to purchase a new vacuum for the church), talking and watching television. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Lee and Billie Webb Sr. of Sesser; daughter and son-in-law, Judith Mae and Bob Ballard, Bush; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delmar Duke, Mendota, Ill. and Martin Duke, Augusta, Mich. Her parents, husband, daughter; Betty Mayers, brothers; Jack and Troy Duke, two sisters; Lillian Vantrease and Hazel Brown and one still born brother preceded her in death. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2002 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Donald Maas will officiate. Burial will follow at Blairsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
