Floyd Coble

SEVERY - Floyd Leroy Coble, 73, a Severy businessman and resident, died June 1, 1999, at Fredonia Regional Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Severy United Methodist Church. The Revs. Kibum Kim and Terry Buchanan will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Burchfiel United Methodist Church of rural Anthony and the Severy United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Coble was born May 5, 1926, northeast of Severy, to Alta and Blanche (Jenks) Coble. He attended Economy Grade School and graduated from Severy Rural High School in 1943. He continued to work on the family farm, and in 1948 he was employed by Arnold and Colyer Grain in Severy.

In 1950 he joined the United States Army and served with the 549th Engineers during the Korean War. He was discharged in November 1952.

After returning from the service, he continued to work for Ted Arnold and Harold Colyer. In 1954, Coble and his brother, Glenn, started their own feed business.

On Dec. 7, 1957, Coble married Donna Rife at the Burchfiel United Methodist Church.

In 1958 he became sole owner of Coble Feed & Seed Co. With the help of his sons, Coble continued in business for 44 years until closing the store in June 1998. He remained active in the cattle business until his death.

He was associated with the United Methodist Church and was a longtime member of the Severy Chamber of Commerce which he served as president for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Coble, Severy; two sons, Hal Coble, Severy, and Carl Coble, Overland Park; a daughter, Cathy Hackett, Oshkosh, Wis.; two brothers, Glenn Coble, Moline, and Ted Coble, Basehor; three sisters, Pauline Bellar, Howard, Leta Brookover, LaHabra, Calif., and Lorene Pape, Olpe; and five grandchildren.

Earl Holloway

ARKANSAS CITY - Earl Alvin Holloway, 90, of Arkansas City, died June 2, 1999, at Presbyterian Manor Health Care Center.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hawks Funeral Home. The Rev. Guy E. Rendoff will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 9 a.m. to service time.

Holloway was born Nov. 16, 1908, near Anson, to Arthur and Nora (Duncan) Holloway. He attended school in Anson where he lived until 1934. Then he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and for a year was stationed at Scammon.

In 1936 he married Thelma Allen. They moved to Oregon in 1937. He returned to Kansas in 1941.

On Jan. 10, 1943, he married Gladys Sprague in Newkirk, Okla.

During World War II, he worked at Boeing in Wichita and later for Wescon Plastics in Wichita. He retired in 1975.

After his retirement, the Holloways lived in Arkansas City. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was involved in the Foster Grandparents Program at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Holloway, Arkansas City; two daughters, Mary Ridge, Knoxville, Tenn., and Audrey Kuzel, Winslow, Ariz.; a sister, Wanda Houser, Wichita; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Donna, preceded him in death.

Steven Sweet

UDALL - Steven L. Sweet, 42, of Udall, died June 3, 1999, in Wichita.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church in Udall. Pastor John Bilyeu will officiate. Burial will be in Star Valley Cemetery.

Friends may call at Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Udall Fire Department.

Sweet was born Feb. 19, 1957, in Winfield, to Lester "Bud" and Roxie Lee (Grant) Sweet.

On Feb. 23, 1980, he married Teresa M. Walker.

He had been a roustabout with the Stelbar Oil Co. for 21 years and also volunteered with the Udall Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Sweet, two daughters, Caitlin Sweet and Kirsten Sweet, and his parents, Bud and Roxie Lee Sweet, all of Udall; and two sisters, Vicki Sue Atkinson, Wichita, and Patti Wilson, Udall.

Virgil Bannon

Virgil B. Bannon, 84, of 1121 Stewart, Winfield, died June 4, 1999, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight and until service time Tuesday.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and the H.L. Snyder Memorial Research Foundation in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Bannon was born Dec. 15, 1914, on a farm near Douglass, to Bert and Sarah Devena (McKay) Bannon. He was raised in the Douglass community and received his formal education in the Wheatland Rural School. He began his lifelong career in farming as a youth.

On July 6, 1940, he married Dorothy I. Smith in Winfield. They lived on their farm west of Rock for many years. Beginning in 1953, Mr. Bannon worked for 15 years as an oil field pumper with Stelbar Oil Co.

In 1969 he began work with the Kansas State Department of Transportation, but he retired in 1976 due to failing health. The Bannons have resided in Winfield since 1976.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bannon, Winfield; a son, Lawrence "Bud" Bannon, Wichita; and two grandchildren.

A daughter, Elanda Lee Lawson, preceded him in death.

Willis Dillinger

LONGTON - Willis LeRoy "Lee" Dillinger, 76, longtime resident of Longton, died June 6, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Longton Cemetery. Ray Dean Rothgeb will officiate. June Kramer will sing "Amazing Grace."

A memorial has been established with the Longton Senior Center. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Dillinger was born on May 6, 1923, in Chautauqua County, to James Odvern "Ottie" and Ethel Mae (Davis) Dillinger. He attended Crum Rural School and grew to manhood in Elk County.

On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Betty Lou Smith in Sedan.

He worked most of his life as an oil field pumper and worked for several years for Ohio Pipeline Construction.

He was a member of the Longton City Council during the early 1960s and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Dillinger, Longton; two sons, Leon Dillinger, Independence, and Jon Dillinger, Longton; two daughters, Karen Greer, Carlisle, Pa., and May Boyd, Pleasant Hope, Mo.; and three grandsons.

Edith Durbin

MOLINE - Edith (Lynam) Durbin, 97, longtime resident of Moline, died June 6, 1999, at Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Moline Cemetery. Lloyd G. Zimmerman will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Elk Manor Nursing Home. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.

Durbin was born in Trenton, Mo., on Feb. 10, 1902, to John Foster and Mable (Reid) Lynam. When she was four years old, the family moved to Moline. She graduated from Moline High School and furthered her education at Emporia Teachers College where she received her teacher's certificate. She first taught at Hardpan School southwest of Grenola, then in the Moline Elementary School.

On March 26, 1921, she married John W. Durbin.

At the time of her death, she was a member of the Moline United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Moline Alumni Association. For many years she collected and dealt in antiques.

Survivors include three sons, Gene L. Durbin, Aransas Pass, Texas, and Ronald R. Durbin and Jack T. Durbin, both of Moline; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Ardelia Seimears

HOWARD - Ardelia Mae "Aunt Dee" Seimears, 95, died June 4, 1999, at Howard Twilight Manor nursing home.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. June 6, 1999, at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard. The Rev. Allen Seimears officiated.

A memorial has been established with Severy Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.

Seimears was born Feb. 14, 1904, in Elk County, to Frank Walter Wesley and LuCretia Mae (Hoyt) Seimears. She attended school eight years in Howard.

A retired Lockheed Aircraft foreman, she had lived in the Fiat, Howard and LaCygne communities as well as Glendora, Calif., and Albuquerque, N.M.

Survivors include her caregiver, the Rev. Allen Seimears, LaCygne, and 15 other nieces and nephews.

Betty Wilhelm

GREAT BEND - Betty Ruth Wilhelm, 69, of Great Bend, died June 3, 1999, in Hutchinson.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend. The Rev. Dick Near will officiate. Burial will be in LaCrosse Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Fryberger Mortuary until 9 tonight and from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight.

Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and the Leukemia Society of America for Mylo-Dysplastic Syndrome.

Wilhelm was born Jan. 20, 1930, to William Fredrick and Hannah (Appel) Maser. She attended high school in Bazine.

On June 26, 1950, she married Norman Philip Wilhelm in Bazine.

She had lived in Great Bend since 1968, moving there from Rush Center. A cashier at Gibson's Store for several years, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Wilhelm, Great Bend; a daughter, Nancy Martin, Winfield; a brother, Virgil Maser, Great Bend; a sister, Geraldine Kating, Wichita; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Ruth Ann Wilhelm, preceded her in death.

Louisa Davison

ODESSA, Texas - Louisa E. Davison, 88, of Odessa, Texas, died June 6, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

Services will be held at Temple Baptist Church in Odessa at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Memory Gardens in Hobbs, N.M., at 3 p.m. mountain time, also Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the Temple Baptist Church Young at Heart Group in Odessa.

Davison was born Aug. 19, 1910, in Maple City.

On Aug. 29, 1929, she married Leland H. Davison in Winfield. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Davison moved to Odessa from Hobbs, N.M., in 1980. A homemaker, she was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Leland Davison and Lloyd Davison, both of Odessa, and Louis Davison, San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Lela Brooks, Odessa, and Louisa House, Evanston, Wyo.; two sisters, Bertha Hallman and Alice Moore, both of Winfield; 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
