Alvin Bridgewater

Alvin Bridgewater, 69, departed this life March 18, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center.

He retired from Southeastern Louisiana University after serving 30 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Bridgewater of Hammond; four daughters, Joyce Gaten, Barbara Raddler and Vanda Burton, all of Hammond, and Margaret F. Bridgewater of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; two sons, James Bridgewater of Hammond and Alvin Bridgewater Jr. of Benton Harbor, Michigan; three sisters, Geraldine Finley, Mary Ann Bridgewater and Brenda Burches, all of Hammond; one brother, Joseph Bridgewater of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hector and Valentine Bridgewater; a daughter, Sheila Bridgewater Payne; and one sister, Christine B. Washington .

Visitation will be Wednesday at N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond, from noon until 4 p.m. The wake and funeral service will be at 7 p.m. at the Greater Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Hammond. Dismissal will be Thursday at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the church cemetery.

James Hubert Brown Jr.

KENTWOOD — "No longer shall the sun be your light by day, Nor the brightness of the moon shine upon you at night, The Lord shall be your light forever, your God shall be your glory. No longer shall your sun go down, or your moon withdraw, For the Lord will be your light forever, And the days of your mourning shall be at an end." Isaiah 60: 19-20.

James Hubert Brown, Jr. died at 10:17 a.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at his residence in Kentwood, LA.

He was a native of McComb, Miss. and was 55 years.

Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and at First Baptist Church, Kentwood, from 10 a.m. until religious services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday. Services conducted by Rev. Joey Miller.

interment Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood, LA.

He is survived by his wife, Debra Heard Brown; daughter, Rebecca Ellen Brown; son and daughter-in-law, James Aaron Brown and his wife, Jenn Hudgens Brown; mother, Lucille Shaw Brown, all of Kentwood; 2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan Brown Fairburn and her husband, Mike Fairburn, Kentwood and Robin Brown Sharkey and her husband, Buddy Sharkey, Hillsdale; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Grover and Pat Heard, New Iberia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in- law, Melanie S. Heard, Atlanta, Ga., Mike & Fran Cutrer, Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Hughes and Christie Desormeaux, Delcambre.

He is preceded in death by his father, James Hubert Brown, Sr.; brother, Kim Wayne Brown; nephew, Trey Sharkey.

He retired after 20 years of service in the USAF where he was a veteran of Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He was a former member of the Amite Police Department where he was the first officer in charge of I.S.S. at West Side Middle School, a Juvenile Officer with the State of Louisiana and retired as a Surveillance Support Specialist with U. S. Customs & Border Protection. He graduated from Kentwood High School, obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana Tech & a Master's degree from Embry Riddle University in Daytona, FL. He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church of Kentwood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to North Oaks Hospice, P. O. Box 2668, Hammond, LA 70404 or the charity of your choice.

He was a true warrior to the end! A good father, husband and provider for his family! He will be missed, but we will meet again. So, goodbye for now.

Marie Therese Allain Inman

Marie Therese Allain "Terrie" Inman, 82 years old of Springfield, LA, died Monday, March 20, 2006 at her residence.

Marie was born Monday, January 28, 1924 in Jeanerette LA.

She was a Retired teacher for St. Mary Parish School System.

Surviving are husband of 60 years, Clarence W. "Sonny" Inman; daughter, Mary Beth Inman Aquilla; son, Clay W.M. Inman Sr.; brother, Richard S. Allain Sr. of New Iberia; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Daughter: Therese "Cissie" Inman Kora. Parents: Daniel A. Allain Sr. and Emma deGravelle Allain. Sister Antoinette "Nettie" Allain Garon. Three brothers: Daniel A. Allain Jr., Wilber L. Allain Sr., and Dr. Martin D. Allain Sr.

Friends will be received Tuesday, March 21 at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home from 5 until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, Louisiana .

Services will be held at St. Margaret Catholic Church, Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Msgr. Leo Guillot officiating.

interment will follow in the St. Margaret Catholic Church Cemetery, Albany, Louisiana 70711.

Juanita P. Chavers

TICKFAW — Juanita P. Chavers, a 78 year old homemaker of Tickfaw, Louisiana , died Saturday, March 25, 2006 in North Oaks Medical Center.

She was born Saturday, May 21, 1927 in Roseland, Louisiana , daughter of the late Alvin and Bessie Tate Parnell.

Surviving are three daughters, Carol Vercher of Westwego, LA., Charlene Johnson of Kenner, LA., and Shirley Stanley of Tickfaw, LA.; son, Gerald Chavers of Tickfaw; brother, Harvey Parnell of Mo.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charlie E. Chavers; son Charles E. Chavers, Jr.; brother, Alvin Parnell, Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Destiny Faith Wallace.

Friends will be received Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Danny Carter officiating.

interment will follow in the Briar Patch Cemetery in Loranger, Louisiana .

Pamela Murphy Childress

PONCHATOULA — Pamela Murphy Childress, 45 years old of Ponchatoula, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at her residence.

She was born Friday, August 19, 1960 in Covington, daughter of Omer Murphy and the late Ruth Foy Murphy.

Surviving are her husband, William Childress of Ponchatoula; two daughters, Jessica Lynn Childress of Baker, Evalyn Ruth DeRocha of Ponchatoula; three sons, Christopher G. DeRocha, Kenneth M. DeRocha, and Timothy W. Childress all of Ponchatoula; granddaughter, Kelsi R. Baham of Ponchatoula; three brothers, Johnny Murphy, James Murphy, and Richard Collins, all of Ponchatoula.

Friends will be received Friday, March 24, 2006 from 1:30 pm until the graveside service at 2:00 pm at Sand Hill Cemetery in Ponchatoula.

interment will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery.

Henry F. Gorman Jr.

Henry F. Gorman Jr., 67, died March 20, 2006, at 4:59 p.m. at North Oaks Medical Center.

He was retired. He was a member, head deacon and head of the kitchen at First Bethel Independent Methodist Church in Hammond.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Engram-Hammed Gorman; his mother, Ella Gorman; two daughters, Margaret (Terrance) Johnson and Lashawn Gorman, both of Hammond; one son, Kenneth Valet; one sister, Ella Mae (Lee) Brown; three brothers, Edward Davis and James Gorman, both of Hammond; and Joe (Deloris) Gorman of Marietta, Ga.; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Gorman Sr.; one sister, Fannie Gorman.

Visitation will be Friday at First Bethel Methodist Church, Hammond, from 5 to 9 p.m. The Rev. James Harrison will conduct the funeral service Saturday at the church at 1 p.m.

Burial will be at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond.

N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.

Lillie Ducote Mayeux

Lillie Ducote Mayeux, 82 years old, of Hammond, Passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at North Oaks Medical Center.

She was born September 14, 1923, in Avoyelles Parish.

Surviving are sons Michael Mayeux and Craig Mayeux; daughters Gayle McGehee, Janice Smith and Sharon Amacker. She was the beloved grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 12.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Mayeux.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Harry McKneely & Sons Funeral Home in Hammond from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Services will be held at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Plaucheville, La. on Friday, March 25, 2006, with Father Rick Gremillion.

Jeannine Bercegeay Smith

LAPLACE — Jeannine Bercegeay Smith, a native of Metairie, died March 20, 2006, at East Jefferson Hospital, at age 47.

Visitation for family, friends and employees of Shelter Distribution will be at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 529 West 5th Street, LaPlace, Friday. Visitation will also be Saturday from noon until 1 p.m. with Mass following conducted by Father Billy O'Riordan.

Burial will be at Garden of Memories.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted husband, Franklin Smith; daughter, Danielle Lambert; mother, Verlyn Bercegeay of Hammond; brother, Andre Bercegeay and grandmother, Thelma Heltz Bercegeay of Reserve.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her father, Charles W. Bercegeay; her paternal grandfather, Wilson J. Bercegeay of Reserve; and her maternal grandparents, Melvin D. Tubre and Betty Lovetro Tubre.

Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lung Research.

Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, is in charge of arrangements.

She is gone from us, but will remain in our hearts forever and ever. For love has no boundaries.
