Mary Lou Overstreet, 87, died November 26, 2010 at Bruce Community Living Center. She was born icon January 1, 1923 in Chickasaw ?County, the daughter of Grover Smith Vance and Clottie Howell Vance. A homemaker, she was a member of Second Baptist Church in Kosciusko, but attended Bruce First Baptist Church while living here.

He was a truck driver for Hardin Trucking 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and loved his family, work, and anything outdoors.

Christopher “Chris” Dee Collums, 48, of Homer, La. died November 16, 2010 at his home. He was born icon December 5, 1961 in Memphis. A member of Calvary Baptist Church in Homer, La., his occupation was in tree service.

Peggy White Wheeler, 74, of Derma, died November 17, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Eupora. She was born icon December 10, 1935. She was retired from manufacturing and was a member of Reedy’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Louise ‘Tina’ Welch Reemes, 86, of Slate Springs, died November 15, 2010 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born icon August 19, 1924. She was a homemaker and member of Starnes Tabernacle in Webster County.

She was a Personal Care Sitter and a homemaker.

Hubert Edwin York, 75, of Memphis and formerly of Bruce, died July 2, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He was born icon August 22, 1935 in Bruce, the son of C.H. and Ruth Jones York. He was a member of East Acres Baptist Church of Memphis, TN. He was a retired trucker.

Burnice Cowsert Patterson, 89, of Vardaman and formerly of Bruce, died July 2, 2011 at her daughter’s home in Philadelphia. She was born icon March 12, 1922 in Banner, the daughter of Lem Ray and Lennar Ritchie Cowsert. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Bobbie Nell Moore Goodwin, 68, of Winona, died July 1, 2011 at Greenwood Leflore County Hospital. She was born icon June 18, 1943 in Calhoun County, the daughter of Russell D. and Lannie Tutor Moore. She was a Baptist, and a retired garment factory worker and a homemaker.

Emmitt Huckaby
Emmitt Gene Huckaby, 72, of Memphis, died June 30, 2011 at his home. He was born icon June 17, 1939 in Bassett, Ar., the son of Arie Emmitt and Mary Anna Ida Vera Henry Huckaby. He was a retired auto mechanic.

Nan Cottingham
Nannie P. Morris Cottingham went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 30, 2011. Nan was born icon in Bruce, Calhoun County, Mississippi August 2, 1936 to R.W. (Dub) and Lucille Black Morris. She married icon Kenneth Cottingham January 1, 1956 and they moved to Grenada shortly after marrying. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Grenada where she served as the secretary for the church Sunday School program. She retired from the Grenada County Tax Assessor’s office in 2006. She also worked for many years as the bookkeeper for J.H. Oliver and Company in Grenada. She enjoyed volunteering and served several years as the cookie chairman for the Grenada County Girl Scout Cookie Sale. She also served several years as secretary/treasurer of the Grenada High School Band Boosters.

James Earl Petty
James Earl Petty of Sumters, SC, departed this life on June 10, 2011 at his home. He was born icon to the late James and Liza Armstrong Petty of Big Creek on February 13, 1946. He joined Bryant Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age after graduating from North Calhoun High School in 1967. He later moved to New York, then to South Carolina.

She was born icon July 22, 1929 in Sledge, the daughter of Chester Jack and Hattie McCormick. She was a retired employee of Union Planters Bank and was an active member of the First Baptist Church.

Myrtilla Kirk
Myrtilla Burris Kirk, 74, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 at South Sunflower County Hospital due to an accidental fall at her home while entertaining her family. She was born icon April 14, 1937 to Waitus Rankin and Lorene Ruth Burris at Pittsboro. She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour at the age of 9. She graduated from Mississippi College where she was elected Miss Mississippi College her senior year. She spent her life serving God in His church, loving and raising her children, and serving others in her vocation for 13 years as teacher for the gifted in the Indianola School System. She was married icon to Bobby Kirk June 18, 1960 and had just celebrated 51 years of marriage. They served faithfully together in Roundaway Baptist Church where she was youth and choir directors, and Sunday School teacher. Her life was a wonderful testimony of her love for the Lord, family, and friends.

Larkin S. Alford Jr., 48, of Carroll County passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at his residence. He has been dedicated to serving the community as a locksmith for 27 years. He had a passion for the outdoors and a love for working on the family farm. He was a dedicated family man and will be deeply missed by both family and friends.

Lucy Elizabeth Hollis, 89, of Vardaman, died September 4, 2011 at Calhoun Health Services Hospital in Calhoun City. She was born icon May 28, 1922 in Savannah, Tn., the daughter of Thomas Couch Sr. and Gertie Mae Maddox Couch. She was a homemaker, retired real estate sales, member of Vardaman First Baptist Church, active in W.M.U., president of Vardaman Home Demonstration Club, taught home economics adult education for MS extension service, former alderman for Town of Vardaman, member of Calhoun County Republican Women’s Club and also a member of Mississippi Republican Party.

Gola Gertrude Criddle Gann, 95, died Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Floy Dyer Manor in Houston. She was born icon September 29, 1915, in Chickasaw County to Jessie Franklin Criddle and Anna Bell Wooten Criddle. She was a retired seamstress and member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Houlka.

Louise Baygents Wells, 85, a native of Waynesboro, MS and a resident of Bruce, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Calhoun Health Service in Calhoun City. She was retired as a sales clerk at Watkins Department Store.

Sybil Schwalenberg Fleming, 90, of Vardaman, died August 23, 2011 at Calhoun Health Services Nursing Home. She was born icon June 9, 1921 in Elzey Community in Vardaman, the daughter of John Edward “Ed” and Oda Clark Schwalenberg. She was a homemaker, and was retired from Seminole Mfg. She was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and needlework.

Ruthie Spraberry
Ruthie G. Spraberry, 87, of Calhoun City, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011 at her son’s home in Pell City, Al. She was born icon July 9, 1924 in Pittsboro, the daughter of Oscar and Effie Knight Cleveland. She was a homemaker and member of Calhoun City First Baptist Church.

Guy Earl Sullivan
Guy Earl Sullivan, 83 of Mt. Olive, passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 at the VA nursing home in Collins. Guy was a farmer for a number of years and retired from Vicker's Corporation.

Ann Hillhouse
Ann Helms Hillhouse, 80, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at her home in Oxford. The funeral service was Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eric Payne and Rev. Jimmy Sockwell officiating. Burial followed in New El Bethel cemetery. born icon in Lafayette County, she was the widow of Boyd Hillhouse. Before retiring, she dearly loved her work as a teacher’s assistant at the North Mississippi Regional Center in Oxford. She was a member of New El Bethel Baptist Church, enjoyed stock car racing, women’s basketball and gospel singing. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Randy Ragland.

James L. Norman, 95, of Calhoun City, died August 20, 2011 at Calhoun Health Services. He was born icon January 4, 1916 in Calhoun County, the son of R.A. and Nora Norman. He was a retired construction equipment operator and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a member of Calhoun City First Baptist Church, was a Mason of Calhoun City Lodge, and member of VFW in Calhoun City.
