Robert Russell
Robert A. "Bob" Russell, 49, of Hastings, died Thursday at his home. The son of Dorothy (Robbins) and Kenneth Russell, he was born Feb. 25, 1967, in Evanston, Wyo.
Bob received his formal education graduating with the Class of 1986 in Russell, Kan. He continued his studies in computer science at ECPI College of Technology. He was united in marriage to Page Harris on Jan. 26, 1996 in Richmond, Va. This marriage later ended in divorce.
He owned and operated a lawn service business until his health began to decline. In 2012, Bob was engaged to Cindy Jervik.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, William Shipley. Survivors include his siblings, Rose Sanders of Cheyenne, Wyo.; James Shipley of Doswell, Va; Donald Shipley of Portland, Ore.; Cynthia Sanders of Red Cloud; and Mrs. Sylvester Fox (Eldora) of Frankfort, Kan.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Guide Rock, with The Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Family inurment will be at the Orleans cemetery in Orleans.

Paul Schriner
Paul W. Schriner, 89, died last Wednesday at the Blue Hill Care Center. The son of Neoma V. (Troyer) and Jess Carl Schriner, he was born Sept. 7, 1927, in Smith County, Kan.
Paul grew up in the Riverton community where he received his formal education. A veteran of the United States Army, Paul served his country from Nov. 2, 1950, until his discharge to the reserves on Aug. 19, 1952. He was united in marriage with Wanda Faye Stuckey on April 8, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Dodge City, Kan. In 1953, they moved to their farm home northeast of Guide Rock.
Paul possessed an immeasurable love for his family and the farm. He had a keen business sense and will be fondly remembered for his dedicated work ethic and his commitment to his family, friends and community. He was a member of the Guide Rock United Methodist Church and numerous community and civic organizations. For many years he enjoyed his involvement with his sons during the years they pursued racing in stock car competitions around the area. His great love and enthusiasm in life was always for his family and he was happiest when they could have time together.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Wanda, on Jan. 16, 2012; an infant daughter, Alicia Rae, on July 10, 1951; his son, Robert J., on Oct. 9, 1972; and 16 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his sons, Harold D. of Guide Rock; Harlan G. of Lincoln, Neb.; Craig W. of Eaton, Colo.; and Loren P. of Chesterfield, Va.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
His funeral was held Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Guide Rock with The Rev. Warren Schoming officiating. Interment with military honors was at the Guide Rock cemetery.

Marilyn Ann Russell
Marilyn Ann Russell, 93, of Hebron, died Sunday at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron. The daughter of John and Uta (Pilant) Stribling, she was born June 2, 1923, in Omaha.
Marilyn grew up in the Omaha area and graduated from Omaha North High School with the Class of 1941.
She married James Russell on Dec. 27, 1942, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Omaha. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons.
The couple owned the Golden Rule Store in Hebron. They sold shoes and clothing. They eventually sold the business and traveled for Wolverine Shoes in Kansas and Nebraska. Jim died on Jan. 3, 1977, and Marilyn went to work as a bookkeeper at Stewart's Pharmacy in Hebron.
Marilyn was a member of St. Charles Episcopal Church in Fairbury where she helped with getting the altar ready for the service and many other things. After its closing they held services in the chapel in Courtyard Terrace Apartments. She was a member of the Hebron Bible Club, Women D.W., and PEO Chapter AE member for 57 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, and one sister, Norma Lee Bauerle.
She is survived by three sons; James (Rusty) of Hutchinson, John of Ashland and Andy of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister; Marcia Patterson of Hiawassee Ga., 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) at Kroll Funeral Home Chapel in Hebron, followed by a private family inurnment. Officiant will be Pastor Gretchen Naugel. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron is in charge of arrangements.

Matilda Werner
Matilda Martha Werner, 97, of Deshler, died Friday at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler. The daughter of August and Anna (Lunzmann) Fintel, Jr., she was born Aug. 31, 1919, in Deshler.
Matilda was baptized Sept. 13, 1919, at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler by Pastor John Schwerin, and confirmed June 4, 1933, at Peace Lutheran Church by Pastor Fred Schwerin.
She grew up in rural Deshler, attending District No. 50 school until seventh grade, then transferring to Peace Lutheran School.
Matilda married Earl Werner on June 23, 1940, at Peace Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with the birth of two children.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedensau where she was active in the Ladies Aid and numerous other capacities. She was a past member of Extention Club Miloettes in Carleton.
Matilda worked hard on the farm being Earl's right hand helper, milking cows, running a Grade A dairy, raising a large garden, caring for the chickens and whatever else needed to be done.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marilyn Werner; three brothers, Walter, Herman and Clarence; and a grandson, Bryan Heinrichs.
She is survived by her husband, Earl, of Deshler; two sons; Eugene of Carleton and Doug Fintel of Bruning; a daughter, Mrs. Larry Heinrichs (MaryAnn) of Davenport; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona Christiansen of Memphis, Tenn., nieces, nephews and friends.
Her funeral was held Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Friedensau (rural Hebron). Officiant was The Rev. Jose Flores. Burial was in the church cemetery. Kroll Funeral Home of Deshler was in charge of the arrangements.

Pat Wright
Pat Wright, 77, died Friday at Bryan Medical Center, Lincoln, Neb. Funeral arrangements are pending with Nutter Mortuary, Concordia.

Janel Wright
Janel Kristine (Bowersox) Wright, 33, died Sunday in Salina. She was born Aug. 14 in Belleville, the daughter of Daniel and Linda Lou (Mason) Bowersox.
Janel was raised in Mankato and graduated from Mankato High School in 2002. She received a bachelor of science Degree from K-State University and a master's degree from University of Kansas in social work. Janel married Matt Wright on Jan. 9, 2009. She worked for Pawnee Mental Health for more than 10 years and was currently working for Citizens National Bank as a loan secretary. Janel was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her husband, Matt Wright, Clay Center, Kan.; father, Daniel Bowersox, Topeka; sister, Mrs. Matt Shroyer (Michelle), Lawrence; brother, Eric Bowersox, Topeka; grandmother, Dorothy Bowersox; two nephews and a niece.
Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow ( Friday) at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Clay Center, Kan., with Rev. Randall Weber and Deacon Walt Slingsby officiating. Visitation will be today (Thursday), 3 to 7 p.m. at the church with rosary recited at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Morganville cemetery. Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, Clay Center, Kan., is in charge of the arrangements.

Janet Schlatter
Janet Kathleen (Zimmer) Schlatter, 68, Lebanon, died Saturday at Parkview Care Center, Osborne. She was born Dec. 7, 1947, the daughter of John Joseph "Joe" and Florence C. (Peters) Zimmer at Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit.
Janet received her education at St. John's Elementary and High School, graduating in May of 1965. Janet was afforded the privilege of attending NCK Vo-Tech School during its initial year when she was a senior. She also was involved in exchange classes with Beloit High School during her junior and senior years in, foods and clothing classes, respectively.
She was united in marriage to William Gary Koch in 1972. To this union, a son, Garon Lee, was born. Janet and Gary were divorced in 1976.
Janet was united in marriage in 1977 to Donald Lee Schlatter. Don and Janet were celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on Aug. 6. They worked side by side on the farm, whether in the fields or with the cattle and hog operations.
Janet had a great love for God, country living and animals. While Janet was disabled, she trusted that God was walking with her and gave her different black labs that were truly a source of love and joy for her. She called them her "company." Through them, she received a visit from God every day.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Don, Lebanon; son, Garon Koch, Norton; brother, Gerald Zimmer, Beloit; two sisters, Marjorie Reinert, Downs, and Alberta Cordel, Beloit; one grandson; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Her funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, with Father Daryl Olmstead officiating. Burial was in Crystal Plains cemetery, rural Smith County. All Faiths Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Pearl Flamme
The funeral for Pearl A. Flamme, 81, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at The Presbyterian Church in Fremont.
She died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Fremont Area Medical Center in Fremont.
Pearl Willey was born June 17, 1919, in Fremont. She grew up in Fremont and was a 1936 graduate of Fremont Senior High School. She married Wilmer E. Flamme Feb. 2, 1942, in Santa Ana, Calif. while he was in the service during World War II. After the war, they moved to a farm northeast of North Bend, where they farmed until moving to Fremont in 1988.
She was a member of The Presbyterian Church and church circle, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8223 Auxiliary in North Bend and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was a former member of United Presbyterian Church in North Bend.
Survivors include: her husband; two daughters, Joan (Mrs. Ray) DeMaertelaere of Schaumburg, Ill. and Jody (Mrs. Stanley) Riemann of Smithville, Mo.; six grandchildren, Charles Bohm, Troy Berens, Shawn Berens, Mark and Andy DeMaertelaere and Susan DeMaertelaere Rotay; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Frances (Widman) Willey; and a son, Jay Flamme.
The Rev. Stephen J. Brownlee will officiate Friday's service. A prayer service will be 7:30 tonight at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will be 1-9 tonight at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
A memorial has been established to The Presbyterian Church.

Doris Johnson
The funeral for Doris I. Johnson, 83, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene, 960 N. Johnson Road, in Fremont.
She died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.
Doris Bennett was born March 13, 1921, in Holdrege where she grew up and attended school. She married S. Burnett Johnson on April 8, 1944, in Wood River, Wis. The couple moved to Nebraska in 1950 and to Fremont in 1964. She became a part of the Salvation Army Corps after her move to Nebraska and was a Corps Sergeant Major. She had been involved in many facets of the Salvation Army in the Fremont community. She was a Silver Star mother. She also was a care giver for many children in this area.
Survivors include: her husband of 60 years, S. Burnett Johnson; five sons, Dennis (and wife, Cheryl) Johnson of Plattsmouth, Bruce (and wife, Janet) Johnson of Arlington, Terry (and wife, Sharon) Johnson of Bellevue, Randy Johnson of Elkhorn and Marc (and wife, Karen) Johnson of Carol Stream, Ill.; a sister, Dixie Erdmann of Washington State; best friends, Delores Kortum and family, Rita Christo and family and Todd Vesely; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Burnett Johnson.
Officiating will be the Salvation Army Major David Corliss, Major Marc Johnson, Captain Abe Tamayo and the Rev. Tom Shaw. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family receiving friends from 2-4 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
Memorials have been established to the Salvation Army and the Fremont Area Medical Center Hospice Program.

E.B. Smith
The funeral for E.B. "Smitty" Smith, 91, of Fremont will be 11 a.m. Monday at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont.
He died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at his home.
He was born May 18, 1911, on a ranch near Aurora in the Pleasant Valley. He moved with his family at age 8 to Taylor where he attended school. He also attended college in Hastings and Kearney. He married Ruth Stolh. He then taught school, District 100 in Custer County and then in Taylor for four years. He then moved to Ravenna and worked for the Grand Union Tea Co. Later, he began traveling for the Curtis Publishing Co., then worked in construction in Nebraska, Arizona, California and Colorado. He moved to Sioux City, Iowa, and worked for Canteen Vending Co. He moved to Omaha and was married in 1961 to Jeanne Watts. She preceded him in death in 1986. While in Omaha, he worked as a finishing carpenter, and he worked for O'Daniel Olds and Olson Pontiac. He moved to Fremont upon retiring in 1974. He married Deloris Orpen Johnson Oct. 3, 1987, in Fremont.
He bowled in several leagues and was a member of Fremont Eagles Club. He also was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. He rode motorcycles until he was 80 years of age, pitched horseshoes and loved to fish.
Survivors include: his wife, Deloris; a son, James (and wife, Gloria) Smith of Sonoma, Calif.; a daughter, Vonnie Kraal of Sonoma; stepchildren, Virginia Watts of Kearney; Bill (and wife, Marcia) Watts of Denver, Pam (Mrs. Randy) Dalman of Pelican Rapids, Minn., Cathy (Mrs. Kent) Neuman of Fremont, Barbara (Mrs. Andy) Aldrich of David City, Doreen (Mrs. Mike) Muck of Mead, Alan (and wife, Kathy) Johnson of Fremont and Roy (and wife, Jeane) Johnson of Wichita, Kan.; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 27 stepgrandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, cousins and many friends.
The Rev. Michael Thomas will officiate Monday's service. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with family receiving friends from 2-4 p.m. Visitation continues one hour prior to service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial cemetery in Fremont.
A memorial has been established to the Hospice Program of Fremont Area Medical Center.

Wayne Carmany
The body of Wayne Frohner Carmany died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002. His truly blessed soul has moved on. We take comfort that his suffering is over and knowing his spirit is with the Lord. We will miss him dearly. We are blessed to have had our lives touched by him in so many ways. His love, ministry, devotion, positive attitude, compassion, zest-for-life, and kindness live on in so many of those he touched.
