Robert Jay

Robert Bob William Jay, 73 of Scottsbluff, Neb., formerly of Kimball, Neb. died Tuesday, January 07, 2003 at Heritage Health Care Center in Gering. Memorial services were Jan. 13, at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Steve Schwartzkopf officiating. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory. A memorial has been established to the Prairie Haven Hospice. Gering Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Bob was born on April 8, 1929 in Goodland, Kansas to Dane and Mabel (Ely) Jay. He attended schools at Hope Grade School and Minatare High School. On March 15, 1950, he was united in marriage to Patsy Ann Abbott in Harrisburg, Neb.. Bob was a custom farmer, for many years and also owned and drove his own truck which was leased to American Colloid in Scottsbluff for several years before ill health caused him to retire.

He is survived by his wife Patsy of Kimball, three daughters Connie Sanford of Gering, Linda (Chester) Cooper of Scottsbluff and Cheryl Jay of Gering; three grandsons Troy Morris, Lonnie Jay, and Robbie Jay and girlfriend Shannon of Lincoln, NE.; one granddaughter Joleen Morris of Gering; seven great grandchildren Teigen West of Scottsbluff, Dakota, Harley, and Shelby Morris of Gering, Quinton and Devlin Jay of Scottsbluff, and Kailey of Lincoln; five brothers Calvin (Dorothy) of Scottsbluff, Dwight (Eilene) of Scottsbluff, Arthur (Marilyn) of California, Roger (Judy) of Colorado, and Dane (Stevie) of Arizona; sister LaDonna Dunham of California and numerous nieces and nephews. Also a brother-in-law Donald Barr of Scottsbluff.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Mabel Jay, mother and father-in-law John and Jennie Abbott, son-in-law Stanley Sanford, niece Nancy Dunham, three sisters-in-law Ilene French, Clara Barr and Kate Hoppe and two brothers-in-law Loyal French and Lester Hoppe.

Louis Schadegg

Louis John Schadegg, 71, of Darby, Montana, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in Hamilton at the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital of heart failure. He lived in Kimball from 1935 through 1959.

A graveside service was conducted, Jan. 7 at the Lone Pine cemetery in Darby with Sister Margaret Hogan officiating.

Lou was born on July 12, 1931, in David City, Neb., to Claretta and Adolph Schadegg.

He married Avalon Eyler and moved to California where he raised his five children. Lou worked as an operating engineer for many years and later founded his own construction company. He retired and moved to Montana in July of 1990.

Lou loved the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish. He loved living in Darby where he settled and leaves many close friends.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Avalon; his children, Bonnie, Marlene, Mary and Louis Jr. of California and Tommy of Darby; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren of California; two sisters, Margaret Wynne of Kimball, and Eileen Wynne of Norwalk, Calif., along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Bud, and his sister, Geraldine.

Arrangements were under the care of the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

Wayne Cain

H. Wayne Cain 76, died on January 4, 2003 at the Kimball Health Service. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 9 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Kimball with the Pastor Roger Gillming officiating.

Cremation will take place after the service and burial will take place at a later date.

He was born September 11, 1926 in Holbrook, Neb., to Reverend Wilson and Alma (Green) Cain. He attended high school in Gothenburg, Neb. In 1950, he graduated from Sioux Falls College with a B.S. in Social Sciences.

On August 26, 1951 he was married to Fayann Armstrong at the Golden Prairie Baptist Church in Burns, Wyo. In 1953 they moved to Kansas City where he attended Central Baptist Seminary earning a Bachelor of Divinity and a Masters in Religious Education. Following graduation they moved to Hastings, Neb. where he became the Director of the YMCA Youth Program.

In August of 1964 they moved to Kimball where he taught history at the Kimball County High School. He later worked at the Kimball Co-op, Safeway Store and the City of Kimball until his retirement in 1990.

He was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church serving as president of the Men's Work. He was a member of the Hastings Masonic Lodge number 317 FAAM.

He is survived by his wife, Fayann of Kimball; sons and their families, Dr. David W. Cain of Pensacola, FL and Dr. Michael B. Cain and wife Lisa of Corning, NY; two aunts; a brother-in-laws; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Memorials may be given to the Trinity United Methodist Church. Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Karlson

Alice Linnea Karlson, 81, of Scottsbluff, Neb. and formerly of Harrisburg, Neb., died January 04, 2003 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. A memorial service was Jan. 8 at Salem Congregational Church with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park. Cremation was held at Sunset Memorial Park Crematory in Scottsbluff.

She was born March 3, 1921 at Tidivad, Sweden to Carl Oscar and Edla Maria (Anderson) Johnsson. In June of 1928 at the age of seven, Alice emigrated with her parents and brother Carl from Sweden to America. They came to the home of Albin and Sophie Anderson, her aunt and uncle about ten miles north of Kimball, Neb. Shortly thereafter the family moved to a sod house a few miles south of Harrisburg. In 1930, the Johnssons moved to a farm at Kirk, NE in Banner County located fourteen miles east and five miles south of Harrisburg, Neb.

She graduated from Banner County High School in 1940 and obtained her teaching certificate from Chadron State College that same year. She returned to Banner County and taught grades 1-8 at the country school in Kirk for two years. In 1942, she accepted a position in Cheyenne County at the Meadow Lawn Country School. She later moved to Scottsbluff where she worked in an administrative capacity at Fair Acres Hospital.

In March of 1944, she married Paul C. Larson, the son of Joe V. and Lillie Larson of Kirk, Neb. Paul and Alice adopted a baby boy, Milton in 1948 and they resided on a farm in Cheyenne County until Paul's death in 1953. In 1954, she moved to Sidney with Milton where she was employed as a bookkeeper for Olsen Construction Company.

She married Lars Karlson on Jan. 29, 1956 and a daughter, Lynnelle, was born in Aug. of 1957. In October of that year, the family moved back to the farm in Kirk, one mile north of her childhood home. The family remained on the farm until October of 1988 when they retired from farming and moved to Scottsbluff.

She was a member of Salem Congregational Church in Scottsbluff and Easter Star Chapter 310 in Potter and became Worthy Matron in 1957.

She is survived by her husband, Lars of Scottsbluff; brother, Carl Eric Johnsson of Bushnell, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law, Milton and Dianna Larson of Charleston, SC; daughter, Lynnelle Mundt of Denver, CO; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial has been established to Banner County High School or to the Salem Congregational Church.

Abbie Pedersen

Abbie Lovett Pedersen, 99 of Kimball, died on Monday, December 30, 2002 at the Kimball County Manor. She is the grandmother of Pat Barrett and David Schoenemann, both of Kimball. Graveside services were Jan. 3 at Kimball cemetery followed by a celebration of her life at First English Lutheran Church of Kimball. Pastor Dwayne Hunzeker officiated.

She was born on April 22, 1903 at Paris Crossing, Ind., to Melvin G. and Ida (Davis) McClanahan. As a young girl her family came west to Nebraska by rail. Her father homesteaded south of Mitchell where she attended country schools. She came to Kimball in 1935.

She married Peder Pedersen and the couple farmed is this area for many years. Her husband died July 4, 1970. She moved to Kimball in 1971.

She was a member of First English Lutheran Church where teaching Sunday School and helped with many church smorgasbords and dinners. She loved sports and attended many games when she was well into her 80's. She loved gardening and had a "green thumb".

She is survived by sister Sally Robinett of Fairbury, Neb.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; son William Schoenemann; daughter Beverly Halstead; brothers Robert and Frank McClanahan and sister Martha Brooks.

Dale White

Dale L. White of Pueblo West, CO died on December 30, 2002 in Florence, CO after a long illness with Alzheimer's. Services were Jan. at the Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball. Burial was at in the Kimball cemetery.

He was born to John and Eva White. He graduated high school in Auburn, Neb. and served in the U.S. Navy from 1957-1960. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and worked with the Nebraska Department of Labor in the Employment Services Division and then managed the State CETA program.

He became program manager for the CETA and JTPA programs for the City of Lincoln. He, his wife and his daughter moved to Colorado 10 years ago.

He had a love of learning, ever-ready helping hand, and an appreciation of life.

He is survived by his wife Peg Novotny of Pueblo West, Colo; daughters, Brenna White Pueblo West, Tonya and husband Brad Siedel of Lincoln and Tisha White of Lincoln; son Sheridan and wife Karyn White of Waterloo, Neb.; brothers, Wayne and wife Jo White of Albuquerque, NM, and Neal and wife Gay White of Tekamah, Neb.; three grandchildren; several in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

His parents and a nephew preceded him in death.

His family will establish an education memorial in his name. Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Kennedy

Wayne Kennedy, 88, of Scottsbluff, Neb. and formerly of Kimball, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002. Funeral Services were Dec. 21 at the Dugan Kramer Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Pastor Nancy Thomlinson officiating. Burial was at the Kimball cemetery.

He was born June 26, 1914 at Trenton, Mo., to Arthur L. and Lucretia (Fauver) Kennedy. The family moved to Cheyenne Wells, Colo. and later to Kimball where he graduated from High School. He graduated from Colorado School of Business.

He married Maurine Young on Oct. 2, 1938 at Kimball. He worked for Remington Arms, the CCC Program, and Sioux Army Depot before he started farming in Kimball County in 1945. He farmed and ranched near Kimball and Alliance before retiring in Scottsbluff.

He was an avid trap shooter, a member of the Nebraska Trapshooting Hall of Fame and won numerous state and national titles. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Milton and Bev Kennedy of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother, Lloyd Kennedy of Boise, Id; son-in-law, Arthur Olsen of Banner County; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, son Ronald, daughter Sharon Olsen, brothers Rupert and Clark and sisters Jewell Burnett and Myrtle Alexander.

Opal Thienhardt

Opal Juanita Thienhardt, 87 of Kimball, died on Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the United Medical Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Funeral services were Dec. 27 at the Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Kimball cemetery.

She was born on May 12, 1915 in Carmi, Ill. to Everett and Bessie (Britt) Englebright. She moved to Banner County with her parents as a child. She graduated high school at Harrisburg in 1932. She attended Normal School in Kearney. She then taught for four years in the Banner County Rural Schools.

She married Fred Stephen Thienhardt May 29, 1937 in Kimball. The Thienhardt's lived and farmed in Banner County until their retirement. They moved into Kimball in 1984.

She was a member of Twin Tree Chapel while living in Banner County and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kimball. She taught many young women how to sew through 4-H classes and taught Sunday School and Bible Studies and was a life long student of the Bible, which she loved to read. She was also a member of the Christian Women's After 5 Club.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Phyllis Thienhardt of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter Julie Green of Pine Bluffs, Wyo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred on Oct. 17, 1984, and one brother.

Memorial gifts may be made to Camp Rock or Kimball Health Services Foundation. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Schmeltze

Mary Jane Schmeltzer of Worland, Wyo., died Sat., Dec. 21, 2002 at Washakie Medical Center. She is the mother of Jan (George) Barp of Kimball. She was born to Washakie County pioneers William and Adeline (Neiber) Murdoch on March 6, 1928.

A Vigil was at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Worland was Dec. 26, and Mass of Christian burial Dec. 27. Burial was at Riverview Memorial Gardens cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice. Bryant Funeral Home of Worland is in charge of arrangements.

Wayne Kennedy, 88, of Scottsbluff, Neb. died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at the Residency Medical Center in Scottsbluff. Funeral Services were Dec. 21 at the United Methodist Church in Scottsbluff with Pastor Nancy Thomlinson officiating. Burial followed at the Kimball City cemetery.

Carlene Ogle

Eva Carlene Ogle, 83 of Kimball died on Monday, December 16, 2002 at the Kimball County Manor. A private burial will take place at the Kimball cemetery on Thursday. A memorial service will take place at a later date.

She was born Sept. 6, 1919 in Knox County, Mo., to Carl Homer and Ethel Mae (Hall) Wonderly. When she was fourteen she moved with her parents to Colorado where they lived for two years before moving north of Bushnell. She attended and graduated from Kimball County High School in 1936. On Sept. 5, 1936 she married Clifford Ogle in Kimball. He died October 10, 1994. Carlene did house keeping and cleaning for 42 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and belonged to the United Methodist Church Women and the Sunrise Circle.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary and her husband Bill Small of Casper, Wyo. and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Memorial gifts may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church to be designated to the church's kitchen. The Cantrell Funeral Home of Kimball is in charge of arrangements
