D. J. (Jack) Roberts

D. J. (Jack) Roberts, Jr. , 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at the Altus City Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Jack was born August 25, 1924, to D. J. (Jack) and Minnie (Hurst) Roberts in Altus. He graduated from high school in Headrick. He entered the U. S. Army on July 5, 1943, and served during WWII in the European Theater, including Normandy and Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. His decorations and citations included the WWII Victory Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the European Theater Ribbon and Four Bronze Service Stars. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on December 27, 1945. He was an electrician for more than 50 years. He and his partner, "Curly" Kovar, formed C & J Electric and served the Altus area for many years. He married Wanda Weber-Kirby on September 17, 1971, in Altus. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Altus where he had served as Deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. He enjoyed church work, church activities, traveling on church trips and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Wanda. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Wilma Marsh-Roberts.

He is survived by his son, Lowell Roberts; his stepson Keith Kirby and wife Patty of Altus; his stepdaughter Beverly Jackson and husband Mike of Edmond; a sister-in-law, Gerry Thompson and husband Joe of Altus; two brothers-in-law; Larry Weber and wife, Yulonda, of McAlester; Bruce Weber and wife Sharon of Olustee; six grandchildren, Kevin Kirby of Altus; Jennifer Pickett of Altus; Buckey Hunter of Lawton; Brad Kirby of Norman; Nikki Robbins of Lakeland, Tenn.; Shelby Jackson of Edmond; six great grandchildren and many friends.

Viewing and visitation hours will be 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kincannon Eldorado Chapel.

Billie E. Rogers

Billie Evelyn Rogers, 77, Altus, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 27, 2004 at the Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls, TX under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Billie was born September 13, 1927 in Montague CO, TX to Robert and Naomi (Mitchell) Hogan. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School. She married Frank D. Rogers in Wichita Falls in 1946. To this union, two daughters were born. She worked as a bookkeeper for Southwest National Bank and 1ST National Bank in Wichita Falls for several years. She was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed boating and loved to spend time with her family. She was a member of the Wichita Falls P.T.A. and a long time member of the Grant ST. United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and a brother, Bob Hogan.

She is survived by her daughters, Sue L. Bryant and husband Mitch of Eldorado, OK and Sheila Rogers of Reno, NV; a sister, Adelle Smithson and husband Bernie of Lubbock, TX; a brother, Dwight Hogan and wife Arlene of Wichita Falls, TX and a sister in law, Beth Hogan of Lubbock, TX.

Billie June Surles

Billie June Surles, 74, Altus, passed away Monday, November 22, 2004 at her home. Graveside services have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 26, 2004 at the Altus City Cemetery with Minister Beau Collins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Billie June was born June 7, 1930 in Chillicothe, TX to J. Louis and Peggy N. Allen Hayhurst. She attended Altus Schools. She married George Moody Surles. on December 19, 1947 in Vernon, TX. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. To her grandbabies, she was just "Grandma Fatty", and she loved spending time with her family. She spent countless hours as a Red Cross volunteer. She was an avid bowler and loved to gamble. She will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather and her great grandson, George Moody Surles IV.

She is survived by her husband of fifty six years, George Moody Surles of the home; two daughters, Amanda Henning and husband John of Geuda Springs, KS and Peggy Payne and husband Jimmy of Altus, OK; two sons, George Moody Surles, Jr. and wife Franka of Fritch, TX and Frank Surles of the home; eight grandbabies and eleven great grandbabies.

She is survived by her daughters, Sue L. Bryant and husband Mitch of Eldorado, OK and Sheila Rogers of Reno, NV; a sister, Adelle Smithson and husband Bernie of Lubbock, TX; a brother, Dwight Hogan and wife Arlene of Wichita Falls, TX and a sister in law, Beth Hogan of Lubbock, TX.

Jimmy Lee Wilson

Jimmy Lee Wilson, 62, Altus, died Thursday, November 25, 2004 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Rev. George Lupton officiating. Military honors will precede the burial at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

He was born on April 10, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa to Forrest F. and Vivian D. (Dimmit) Wilson. He graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. He entered the United States Air Force in July of 1960 and was honorably discharged in July of 1964 with the rank of Airman 2nd Class. He married Darlene Benight on June 14, 1963 in Altus while stationed at Altus Air Force Base. Two children were born of this union. Jimmy was an agent for Banker's Life and Casualty Insurance in Altus until 1966; worked at Republic Gypsum in Duke until 1969; was assistant manager of the Altus Sirloin Stockade until 1971 when he moved to Davenport, Iowa to manage another Sirloin Stockade until his retirement in 1973 due to health considerations. He and fellow veteran Ernest Hopkins were instrumental in organizing the original Altus D.A.V. charter in 1977. He was also active in the Odd Fellows organization. He was of the Methodist Faith, collected clocks, enjoyed golf, poker, fishing and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Floyd.

He is survived by his mother, Vivian D. Wilson, Des Moines; wife Darlene Wilson of the home in Altus; one daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Frank Antonsen, Warner Robins, Georgia; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Sandra Wilson, Altus; one sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Gary Lewallen, Des Moines; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Patricia

Nora L. Wolf

Nora Louise Wolfe,72, Altus, died Friday Nov. 19, 2004 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Graveside Funeral Service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 at the Tipton Cemetery with Pastor Lloyd Lopez officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Nora was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Madill to John and Mary Wolfe. She attended school in the Madill and Kingston schools. She worked in health care and devoted much time to caring for others. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed hunting and fishing. She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Wicy and Juanita and three brothers, Buddy, Balum and Sonny Boy.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Kay Gagnon and husband Glenn of Altus; two sons, Terry Don Blackburn and wife, Lisa of Wapanuka and Ricky Earl Blackburn of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Summer Rhodes and husband Bruce of Ada, Matthew Legg of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Abraham Blackburn of Wapanuka; and many nieces and nephews.

Shelia Young

Shelia Young, 48, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Pastor Elder Green officiating. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Shelia Jane Willis was born May 6, 1956 in Altus, OK to Ira and Ima Jean (Hill) Willis Sr. She was a graduate of Altus High School and Western Oklahoma State College with an Associates in Computer Science. She married Gene Young on April 19, 1975 in Altus, OK. To this union, three children were born. She worked as cafeteria clerk for the Altus Public Schools for over twenty years and most recently at the Altus Junior High. She sat on the Board of Great Plains Recreation. She was a volunteer coach for the recreation program for over twenty years, coaching basketball and softball. She loved cooking and old movies. Shelia was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. She was a member of the Church of God in Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Gene of the home; her daughter, Shaylonda Young of Altus, OK; two sons, Phillip Young of Norman, OK and Jermey Young of Altus,OK; six sisters, Debra Willis of Altus, OK, LeNora Motten and husband Clyde of San Diego, CA, Leslie Scott of Frederick, OK, Vanessa Scott of Chickasha, OK, Krystal Scott of Chickasha, OK and Mindy Scott of Frederick, OK; five brothers, Ronal Willis of Altus, OK, Ira Willis JR of Altus, OK, Kenneth Willis of San Diego, CA, Alan Willis of San Diego, CA, Jeffrey Scott of Altus OK and a host of friend and relatives.

Willie Kuykendall

Willie Kuykendall, 97, Altus, died Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at the English Village Nursing Center in Altus. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 P.M., Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Bill Osborne officiating. Burial will follow services at the Fairmont Cemetery in Hollis, OK. under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Willie was born April 4, 1907 in Hollis, OK to Harley Eugene and Fannie Lee (Blair) Bridge. She attended Star Valley School near Hollis, OK. She married Erada Doyle Kuykendall on June 5, 1925 in Hollis. She worked diligently as a homemaker and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She helped on the family farm, but in her own words she was 'always just a houswife'. She loved to cook and kept an excellent home. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Hollis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Erada Doyle in June, 1994; three brothers, three sisters and a son-in-law Larry Ochs..

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law; Jeanie Ochs; Audrey Lee and Larry Bills; a son and daughter-in-law, Rada Belton and Dorothy Kuykendall; five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

The Kuykendall family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.

Delhia "Miss Dee" Mae Lester

Delhia "Miss Dee" Mae Lester, 66, Altus, died Tuesday February 15, 2005 at the English Village Nursing Home. Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00P.M. Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Services are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.

Delhia 'Dee' Mae Lester was born July 17, 1938 in New Haven, CT. She lost her parents at a very early age. She spent many years living with different families and finally at the age of 12 went out on her own. Delhia has not had an easy life but faced all the adversity head on. She was not a quitter and spent her life trying to help others. She married Alton T. Lester, a former Army private, firefighter for the Norfolk Virginia Fire Department and artist. From this marriage came her only child, Jennifer. She lost her husband in 1980. She moved to Altus with Jennifer in 1985 and obtained employment at Altus Air Force Base. She had worked there until retirement in 2004. She had a very rewarding career. She obtained many awards and even a medal on her retirement. She was very respected, loved and generous woman. She left her mark on many lives.

Delhia initiated the 'Angel Tree' that provide Christmas to many less fortunate children at Christmas time. She spent hours upon hours of her free time making quilts and and lap blankets which she donated to the Indian Hospital, Veterans Hospital and nursing homes. If she heard of a need, she took it upon herself with a network of friends to help. She cleaned, repaired and shipped thousands of pieces of clothing to the Appalachian children to help them. She also donated to them school supplies.

Dee had various hobbies and her love of sewing and cooking usually played a part in them. She also had various trades in her life besides the Air Force Base. Among those are general construction contractor, appointment clerk, a licensed firearms dealer, logging, experienced seamstress, teacher in various schools including Prospect Christian Acadamy in Virginia. She also taught at churches and home extension offices in Virginia. She ran and managed a 30 acre farm a firewood business. She was a Food Service Super and Assistant Instructor. Her most important and most rewarding job was one as a homemaker and mother.

She took so much pride in her family, she assisted her husband Alton in purchasing, renovating and selling investment properties. She also sacrificed and saved to make her daughter's dream and skills as an artist come true. She took great pride and pleasure in all of Jenifer's art but none more so than the painting she did on the fence of her home and her front walkway. Dee is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Menkouchi and husband Abdullah, Morroco.

She also leaves behind her extended family Sherri and Tommy Fagan of Altus, Sharon and David Bradford of Altus, Zac Finley of Hollis, Mindy Tucker of Altus, Joanne Roberts of Altus, Jamie Schumacher of Altus and David and Dawn Philpott, FL.

She has left behind so many friends and especially all the little kids whom all knew her as Miss Dee and her special friend, Kim Bailey, Bob Harris and Gina Tolbert all of Altus.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of the American Kidney Association.
