COLUMBIA — Service for Marion Criswell Kirkland, 86, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Bush River Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation, S.C. Chapter. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is in charge.

Mrs. Kirkland died Friday, August 20, 2004. Born in Augusta, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Duran and Anne Criswell. She was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband, Jack Kirkland; daughter, Cristy Kirkland of Columbia; and two grandsons, Adam and Jason Hayes; and a great-granddaughter, Summer Noelle Hayes.

Ethel Mixon

HARTSVILLE — Services and burial for Ethel Mae Johnson Mixon, 71, widow of Harry Mixon Sr., are 2 p.m. Monday at Prospect UMC. Visitation is 4-6 tonight at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Born in Chesterfield Co. to Roy and Leda Griggs Johnson, she died August 20, 2004. Survivors: daughters, Joyce Sullivan, Renee Johnson; sister, Mary Nash; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.

Josefina Rosado-Maldonado

COLUMBIA — Service for Josefina Rosado-Maldonado, 85, will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Rosado-Maldonado died Friday, August 20, 2004. Born in Manati, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Carlos Maldonado and Zoraida Otero. She attended Forest Drive Baptist Church for many years.

Surviving are her husband, Pedro Rosado-Maldonado; daughter Miriam Ortiz of Columbia; sons, Pedro R. Rosado of Waco, Texas and Carlos Rosado of Swansea; brothers, Angel Maldonado of Boston, Mass. and Felix Maldonado of Puerto Rico; sisters, Carmen M. Maldonado and Angela Maldonado, both of Puerto Rico; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by son, Edwin Rosado and sister, Adela Maldonado.

Alfred Deflorio

GILBERT — Alfred D. DeFlorio, 81, died Friday, August 20, 2004. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Michael and Josephine Desimone DeFlorio. He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine P. DeFlorio of Gilbert; son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathleen DeFlorio of Gilbert; grandchildren, Michael DeFlorio and wife Heidi of East Long Meadow, Mass; Dr. Robert DeFlorio, MD and wife Charlene of Holyoke, Mass; sister, Mifalda Williams of Nashville, TN.

A Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with visitation following until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2004 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Services will be held at a later date in Massachusetts. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

WALTERBORO — Services for Margie Martin Beasley, 47, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (visitation 6-8 tonight) at Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel with burial in Glendale Memorial Cemetery. Born in Colleton Co. to Dorrell and Margaret Martin, she died August 20, 2004. Surviving are husband, Terrell Beasley; mother; children, Tammy Ard, Tabitha Rivers; six grandchildren; three siblings.

ELLOREE — Services and burial for Ernest “Dickie” Adgerson Jr., 78, will be held at 2:30 p.m. (viewing 1:30 p.m.) Monday at Shiloh A.M.E. Church. Visitation is 3-8 tonight at W.B. Crumel Funeral Home, North. Born to Eliza Boyd, he died August 18, 2004. Surviving are son, Clarence Lowman; brother, Capers Wright; special friend, Ruth Peek; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

ROCK HILL — Services for Horace Melvin Caston, 84, are 2 p.m. Monday at Rawlinson Road Baptist Church; burial in Grandview Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-5:30 tonight at Greene Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel. Born in Lancaster to Samuel Caston and Pearl McKee, he died Aug. 20, 2004. Surviving: wife, Minnie Caston; two daughters; two stepsons; two siblings; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

GREENWOOD — A graveside service for Louise Driggers Jones Chavis, 88, widow of Carlos Chavis, is 2 p.m. Monday in Liberty Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cross Hill. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at Harley Funeral Home. Born in Greenwood Co. to John and Grace Driggers, she died August 20, 2004. Surviving are two sons; two daughters; four siblings; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren.

PACOLET — A graveside service for Connie Lynn Rochester Cobb, 31, is 2 p.m. Monday in Hammett Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Cowpens. Visitation is 7-9 tonight at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home, Union. Born in Gaffney to David and Brenda Rochester, she died August 20, 2004. Surviving: husband, Robert Cobb; parents; children, Mickey Blackwell, Sara, Peggy, Patsy Hensley; 2 siblings; 2 grandmothers.

CHESTER — A graveside service for James Carl “Elmo” Ellis, 51, is 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Cemetery, Great Falls. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Barron Funeral Home. Born in Chester to James and Betty E. Webb Ellis, he died August 20, 2004. He was self-employed. Surviving are daughter, Crystal Hudson; son, Jason Yergan; brother, Randy Ellis; sister, Linda Humphries, Patsy Hinson; two grandchildren.

BENNETTSVILLE — Services for Bobby Lee Dew, 51, will be held at 3 p.m. today at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in McCall Cemetery. Whitner-Evans Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Marlboro Co. to Douglas Dew and Annie Mae Pruitt Rouse, he died August 20, 2004. He was a painter. Surviving are mother; brothers, William, J.W., Billy, John Dew.

MONCKS CORNER — Services and burial for Herdie Gilmore, 104, widow of Isreal Gilmore, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Poplar Hill Christian Church, Cross, where she was a member. Eutawville Community Funeral Home, Eutawville, is in charge. Born in Berkeley Co. to Joe and Emma Williams Youngs, she died August 20, 2004. Surviving are daughter, Marilyn Fladgler; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

LORIS — Services and burial for Ethel Blackburn Floyd, 93, widow of John Floyd, will be held at 4 p.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Hardwick Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Loris to Jiley and Lula Harrelson Blackburn, she died August 20, 2004. Surviving are son, Winfred Floyd; daughter, Bobbie Jean Caldwell; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

LAKE CITY — Services for Bonnie Ruth McKenzie Hanna, 69, widow of Abraham Hanna Jr., are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greater St. Stephens Baptist Church; burial in McKenzie-Brown Cemetery. Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home is in charge. Born to Willie and Bernese McKenzie, she died Aug. 20, 2004. Surviving: children, Ronnie, Dwight, Sharon Hanna, Gwendolyn Morris, Patricia Harrison; grandchildren; others.

LONGS — Services and burial for Robert Matthew “Matt” Herring, 19, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Buck Creek Baptist Church. Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hardwick Funeral Home, Loris. Born in Loris to Robert and Glenda Patterson Herring, he died August 20, 2004. He had worked for Weaver Construction Co., and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are mother; sister, Peggy Boyd; girlfriend, Beth Rabon.

PATRICK — Services for Bernice Tarlton Hinson, 67, are 2 p.m. Monday (visitation 7-9 tonight) at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, Chesterfield. Born in Patrick to Wesley Steele and Lillie Tarlton, she died August 20, 2004. Surviving are children, James, Richard Hinson, Edna Moot; siblings, Ronny, Jimmy Armstrong, Johnny, Ervin Roscoe, Doris Arnnette, Cheryl Andrews; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 6-8 tonight at Rogers Funeral Home, McColl. Born in Dillon Co. to Spergin and Drusilla Rogers Hunt, he died August 21, 2004.

Surviving: husband, Levern McCrea; daughters, Jasaline, Jasamine McCrea; parents; three sisters; one brother; grandparents.

Myrtle Johnson

HARTSVILLE — Services for Myrtle Gandy Johnson, 87, widow of John Johnson, will be held at 3 p.m. today at North Hartsville Baptist Church with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Born in Darlington Co. to Charles and Roxie Morrell Gandy, she died August 20, 2004. Surviving are daughters, Jackie Teal, Jessee Parker; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

Elden Jones

COLUMBIA — Services for Ernest Elden Jones, 77, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2004 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel with interment to follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Carolina Jazz Society.

Mr. Jones died Thursday, August 19, 2004. Born in Salley, SC he was the son of the late Ernest and Ruth Humphreys Jones. He was a graduate of Clemson University and a South Carolina Legislator. Mr. Jones was a life long jazz musician, and a member of the Carolina Jazz Society.

He is survived by his wife, Susan A. Jones of Columbia; sons, Edward E. Jones of Greenville, Barry Earl Jones of Newberry; daughters, Sherry J. Williamson of Aiken, Ashley Mosser-King of North Carolina; step-daughter, Melanie A. B. Kicklighter of Suwanee, GA; sister, Beverly Rush of Greenville; several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Preston Nolan

SOCIETY HILL — Mr. Preston Nolan, 85, of Society Hill died Friday, August 20, 2004.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 4 PM at Welsh Neck Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tom Rutan and Rev. Neal Nolan. Interment will follow in the Nolan Family Cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.

Mr. Nolan was born in Marlboro County. He was the son of the late Lonnie and Glennie Leviner Nolan. Mr. Nolan was a member of Welsh Neck Baptist Church. He owned and operated Nolan Timber Corporation for over 50 years and was the CEO Emeritus at the time of his death. Mr. Nolan was a farmer and was an avid gardener. He was a hard working man who loved people.

Mr. Nolan was predeceased by his wife, Winnie Mae Hardee Nolan who died in 1995 and an infant daughter, Glennie Annette Nolan and one granddaughter, Ann Cherie Fulmer.

Mr. Nolan is survived by one son, Robert Preston (Billie) Nolan of Society Hill; two daughters, Edna Nolan (Leon) Chapman of Society Hill and Betty Nolan (Marion Douglas) Peacock of Blenheim; two adopted sons, Edgar F. (Betty) Smith of Michigan and Frank M. (Linda) Kelly of Society Hill; three brothers, Lawson P. (Jane) Nolan, Julian (Peggy) Nolan, both of Society Hill and Jasper (Janet) Nolan of Bath, NC; Grandchildren, Robert F. (Lisa) Nolan, Neal Preston (Kim) Nolan, and Ernest Brandon Nolan all of Society Hill, Kim Chapman (Shafter) Johnston of Myrtle Beach, Stacie Chapman (Mike) Reed of Lafayette, LA, Dale Peacock (Carl) Freeman of Blenheim, Betty Carol Peacock of Florence, Sabrina (Eddie) Packet of Hartsville, Steve (Dawn) Peacock of Latta and 14 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Sunday, August 22, 2004 at the funeral home and at all other times at the family home in Society Hill.

The family suggests memorials be made to Society Hill Church of God Building Fund, Post Office Box 166, Society Hill, SC 29593, Welsh Neck Baptist Church Building Fund, 112 Church St., Society Hill, SC 29593, or to the Brownsville Baptist Church, 410 Hwy. 38 South, Blenheim, SC.
