Bobby Joe Houldridge
(January 1, 1932 - May 31, 2011)

U.S. Veteran

Bobby Joe Houldridge, 79 of Junction City, AR; died on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Hudson Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Born on January 1, 1932 in El Dorado; he was the son of Horace W. and Joel “Jackie” Brasher Houldridge. Bobby served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict on the aircraft carrier USS Essex. He retired as a Captain with El Dorado Fire Department after 21 years. Bobby also worked for 12 years with the Union County Highway Department. He was a member and former Deacon of Three Creeks Baptist Church and former Deacon at Westside Baptist Church. Bobby was a member of the Three Creeks Boys Deer Club and a Razorback fan. Bobby was a caring and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, father in law and friend.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Guy, Ted and Bill Houldridge, and a great grandson Matthew Hogg.

Survivors are his wife Maryellen Mc Googan Houldridge of El Dorado, three sons Steve (Alice), Dwayne (Tammy) Houldridge all of El Dorado and Jim (Joy) Houldridge of Albany, GA. Also surviving are grandchildren Heather Gilmore, Shaun Gilmore, Haley Houldridge, Bret Cottrell, Sarah (Brandon) Hogg, Wesley Houldridge, Shay Hays, Faxton Houldridge, Sara Morris, and Leland Morris, and great grandchildren Delaney and Anniston Gilmore, along with special friends Bruce (Karen) Gilmore.

Funeral services will be 2 pm, Friday, June 3, 2011at Three Creeks Baptist Church with Rev. James Sparks officiating. Interment will follow in the church’s cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Bailey Funeral Home in El Dorado on Thursday from 4 pm to 7 pm. Memorials may be made to Donor’s Choice, Life Touch Hospice, 2301 Champagnolle Rd, El Dorado, AR 71730 or Three Creeks Baptist Church, 8772 Haynesville Hwy, Junction City, AR 71749.

Louise Brazzel Dison
(March 29, 1932 - May 25, 2011)

Louise Brazzel Dison, 79 of Junction City, AR, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Life Touch’s John R Williamson Hospice House following a brief illness.

Born on March 29, 1932 in Junction City, AR; she was the daughter of J. Franklin and Mary Lou Pepper Brazzel. A lifelong resident of Union County, Louise was a homemaker and member of Caledonia Baptist Church. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Eldridge Brazzel, and her husband Roy A Dison Sr.

Survivors are daughters Mary Elizabeth Hefner, of Columbia, LA, Virginia ‘Ginger’ Roberts, of Junction City, and Darline Vick, of Strong, AR, a son Roy A Dison Jr., of Calion, AR, a brother Henry Brazzel of Vilonia, AR, along with 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Caledonia Baptist Church with Rev. Hugh Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at Olive Branch Methodist Church’s Cemetery by Bailey Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 531 South Caledonia Road and at a visitation at Caledonia Baptist Church on Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mary Etta Cross
(July 21, 1945 - May 19, 2011)

Mary Etta Cross, 65 of El Dorado, AR, was found on May 19, 2011 near Norphlet, AR.

Born on July 21, 1945 in Calion, AR; she was the daughter of Floyd and Lottie Lambert Haynes. Mary was a former employee of El Dorado Printing. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Vera Haynes.

Survivors are daughters Charlotte Hagood, Donna Jett, and Lorrie Ponder all of El Dorado, brothers Floyd L. Haynes and George Haynes both of Calion, sisters Edna Dearing of El Dorado, Margaret Bird of Calion, Nancy Haymon of Haughton, LA, along with 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 27, 2011 in the chapel of Bailey Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Moss officiating. Entombment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the Bailey Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday evening.

J.C. Parks
(April 16, 1929 - May 23, 2011)

U.S. Veteran

A celebration of the life of J.C. Parks will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3408 North Wyatt Drive, El Dorado, AR with Rev. Steve Pelz, Rev. David Crouch and Rev. Hugh Nelson officiating.

Mr. Parks, of El Dorado, was born April 16, 1929 at Mt. Holly, Arkansas, and went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2011 at UAMS Medical Center, Little Rock, Arkansas following an extended illness.

A lifelong resident of Union County, J.C. was the son of Harvey Watson Parks and Luddie Davis Parks. On December 5, 1953 he married the love of his life, Marilyn Naomi Ward. Mr. Parks spent thirty-five years with the U.S. Postal Service, and devoted his life with his wife to serving others in his community, church, and family. He was veteran serving in the Army Signal Corp in the early 1950's. His love of fishing and being at their lakehouse at Felsenthal gave opportunity for many years of service to that community as well. He, alongside his wife, was a director of the JOY Senior Adult Club of Ebenezer Baptist Church for more than thirty years.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Marilyn Naomi Ward Parks, two sons, Don Parks and wife Sandi of Marshall, Texas; Paul David Parks and partner Gregg Biba of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Velma Smith and husband Don, of Smackover, AR, Sue Williams of Magnolia, AR, and Peggie Thomas and husband Mike, of Haughton, LA; one brother Bill Parks and wife Floy, of El Dorado; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family; adopted family members Wayne and Lou Huitt of Hermitage, AR, adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren Shannon and Hailey Huitt, Emily and Joe Huitt, of Smackover; Shawnda and Calvin Outlaw, and Ashton and Will Outlaw of Hermitage.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Homer Parks, and one sister Carmen Daisy Parks.

Pallbearers will be Joe Willett, Bob Willett, James Humphries, William Crowder, Les Cardin, and Gary Hill.

Visitation will be at Bailey Funeral Home, Wednesday, May 25, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The family wishes to express grateful appreciation to Arkansas Cardiology and Drs. Douglas Holloway and Steven Greer.

Catherine Varnell Griffith
(January 18, 1932 - September 18, 2011)

Catherine Varnell Griffith, 79 of El Dorado, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden following a lengthy illness.

Born January 18, 1932 in Hampton, AR she was the daughter of Roshus Leeroy and Hattie Ramsey Varnell. Mrs. Griffith was a Registered Nurse having graduated from Southern State College in 1972. She was a one time Director of Nursing at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home and had worked in several doctors’ office in the area. She was of the Pentecostal faith.

Preceding her in death along with her parents were a brother, L. T. Varnell and sisters, Beatrice Bolding and Verna Mae Mullins.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, James C. Griffith of El Dorado, two sons, James M. Griffith of Conway, AR and David R. Griffith of El Dorado and a daughter, Connie Edwards of Hot Springs, AR. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Hayley Loecker (Ron) of Denver, CO, Heath Edwards of Hot Springs, AR, Sarah Griffith of Cabot, AR, Allen Griffith of Greenbrier, AR and Brandon Brewster of El Dorado and two great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Griffith and Kaiden Griffith.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Bailey Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jim Bolding officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

The family will be at the David Griffith residence, 1735 E. Cedar.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6465 South Yale Avenue, Suite 312, Tulsa, OK 74136-7804.

Mae June Jenkins
(September 20, 1945 - September 30, 2011)

Mae June Jenkins, 86 of Victoria, TX; died on Friday, September 30, 2011 at Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, TX following a brief illness.

Born on September 20, 1925 in Walworth, South Dakota; she was the daughter of John and Christine Kubier Kulm. June was a homemaker and a former member of Northwest Baptist Church in El Dorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Florence Waul, brothers Franklin, Tom, Kenny, and Robert Kulm and her husband John Theodore Jenkins.

Survivors are a son Ted and wife Cindy Jenkins Jr. of Victoria, TX, daughters Caroline Witten of Boise City, OK and Chris and husband Butch Chance of Park City, KS, a brother Arnold Blumhardt of Sacramento, CA, along with 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 am, Monday, October 3, 2011 at Arlington Memorial Park with Rev. Bob Inmon officiating. Memorials may be made to the Donor’s choice.

Sybil Marie Waller
(December 6, 1924 - September 13, 2011)

Sybil Marie Waller, 86, of Emerson, Ar. passed away September 13, 2011 in Shreveport after a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong resident of Emerson, Ar. born December 6, 1924 to John Clyde and Sallie Mae (Dismuke) Thomas.

Sybil was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Emerson. Although she was a homemaker, her talents were many. She was an accomplished seamstress and spent countless hours “Hand Quilting” her works of art and family heirlooms. For many years she even found time to babysit for others. She also was a avid gardener and would share her vegetables with family and friends in her community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dossie D. Waller, daughter, Wanda Murphy, and three sisters, Lilla Mae Thomas, Eugenia Benefield and Fannie Hunter.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Shirley Kelly and husband, Grady, Jr. of Keithville, La. and Rachel Waller of Magnolia, Ar., son, Sherrell Waller of Runaway Bay, Tx., sister, Esther Pipkin of Magnolia, Ar., son in law, Randal Murphy of Warren, Ar., seven grandchildren, Jeff Kelly of Sumter, SC., Vicky Reeves and husband, Mark of Doyline, La., Lisa Kellum and husband, Jason of Banks, Ar., Lynette Murphy of Monroe, La., Damon Waller of Shreveport, La., Derek Waller of St. Petersburg, Fl., Chad Waller of McAlester, Ok., nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Services will be at 2:00pm, Friday, September 16, 2011 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randal Murphy officiating and Bro. Karry Easley assisting. Burial will follow at Emerson Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Magnolia.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Kelly, Mark Reeves, Derek Waller, Chad Waller, Joe Bussell, and Warner Tribbey.

Visitation will be from 6-8pm Thursday evening at the funeral home.
