Cecil M. Tucker

A graveside service was held Wednesday at Ceres Memorial Park for Cecil M. Tucker, 83, of Delhi. He died Friday, June 6, 2003 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

The Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Born Jan. 4, 1920, Mr. Tucker was a native of Oklahoma and lived in Delhi for six years. He lived in Ceres for many years prior to his move to Delhi. He was the owner and operator of Tucker Auto Sales in Ceres, for 30 years. He also owned Tucker Hancock Gas Station in Ceres. Mr. Tucker served in the Army in 1939 and 1940. He was a member of Calvary Temple Baptist Church in Delhi. He was also a 50-year member of Smyrna Lodge 532 of the Free and Accepted Masons in Ceres, for 50 years.

He leaves behind two children, Dorothy Cushman and Richard Tucker, both of Modesto; his brother, Jack Tucker of Turlock; two sisters, Irma Boyd of Ceres and Mamie Longacre of Modesto; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Mustang.

Christina Sorensen

Private services have been held for Christina "Dete" Schmidt Sorensen, 87, of Ceres. She died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at English Oaks Convalescent Hospital.

The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements.

Born May 1, 1916, Mrs. Sorensen was a native of Oakland and lived in Ceres 85 years. She co-owned James C. Sorensen Inc. Mrs. Sorenson was a graduate of Modesto Junior College and Merritt College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Soroptimist Club and Persephone Guild. Mrs. Sorensen enjoyed flying and art.

She leaves behind her husband, James C. Sorensen of Ceres; two children, Susan Robinson of Sanger and Shirley Sorensen of Redwood City; her brother, Paul Schmidt of Incline Village; two sisters, Grace Cox of Westley and Mary Gregoritch of Novato; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Dr. Ruth Schmidt.

Fredrick J. Monaco Sr.

Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service was in charge of private services for Fredrick Joseph Monaco Sr., 66, of Ceres. He died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Born Jan. 17, 1937, Mr. Monaco was a native of Modesto and lived in Modesto and Ceres all of his life. He was an equipment operator for La Follette & Sons Custom Chopping. Mr. Monaco enjoyed fishing.

He leaves behind his wife, Patricia Monaco of Ceres; nine children, Michael Moore of Carson City, Fredrick Monaco Jr., Barbara McClure and Sally Monaco, all of Modesto, Patricia Snow of Bakersfield, Theresa Birge of Cottonwood, Alice Rodriguez of Missouri, Lucille Sinner of Porterville and Jonie Dietzman of Chowchilla; and 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy E. Lyle

Private services were held at Lakewood Funeral Home for Dorothy Elizabeth Jones Lyle, 84, of Ceres. She died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.

Born Feb. 16, 1919, Mrs. Lyle was a native of Spokane, Wash., and lived in Ceres for 35 years. She was a homemaker.

She leaves behind two daughters, Barbara Nisen of Greeley Hill and Jeannette Hoefert of Tunkhammock, Pa.; her brother, William W. Jones of Petaluma; two sisters, Bonnie Cole of Hayward and Eleanore Casey of Sacramento; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be sent to Community Hospice, 601 McHenry Ave., Suite C, Modesto, CA 95350; or to the American Heart Association, 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, CA 94010.

Rose Garcia

Rose "Nawnie" Marie Garcia, 64, of Oakdale died Friday, June 21, at Oak Valley Care Center in Oakdale.

She was a native of New Mexico and had resided in Oakdale for 63 years. She worked as a social worker for the State of California Child Protective Services for 12 years. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Oakdale. She was a graduate of Oakdale High School Class of 1957.

Mrs. Garcia is survived by her ex-husband, Manuel Garcia of Modesto; children, Chris Edwards of Vacaville, Pam Strainer, Lisa Gonzales and Victoria Garcia-Corona all of Oakdale; sister, Evelyn Tapia of Oakdale; brothers, James Perea of San Leandro and Victor Perea of Hayward; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Assembly of God Church.

Oakdale Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Howry

Helen Marie Howry, 84, of Oakdale died Sunday, Aug. 11 at UCSF Hospital in San Francisco.

She was a native of Edmore, North Dakota and had lived in Oakdale for 12 years. Prior to living in Oakdale she resided in Modesto for 28 years. She worked as a cannery worker for Tri Valley Growers #7 for 35 years.

She is survived by her children, Harold Howry, Marlen Howry, Keith Howry and Gary Howry, all of Modesto, Duane Howry of Kansas City, Mo., John Howry of Jamestown, William Howry of Riverbank, Ken Howry of Oakdale and Rose Byous of Modesto; brother, Sydney Lunden of Joliet, Ill.; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Nick Howry, three daughters, one son and one grandchild.

Services were conducted on Thursday, Aug. 15 at Lakewood Funeral Home. A graveside service followed at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Ruby Sanders

Ruby Estalene Groves Sanders, 75, of Riverbank died Wednesday, Jan. 1 at Oak Valley Care Center.

She was a native of Texas and a lifelong resident of Riverbank. She was a homemaker and also a secretary for the Riverbank School District for 24 years.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Sanders, Jr. of Riverbank; sister, Frances Jordan of Knights Ferry; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her children, Sam Lee Andrew Anglin and Linda Carol Anglin.

A graveside service was conducted on Monday, Jan. 6 at Lakewood Memorial Park in Hughson.

Riverbank Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Darlene Oatfield

Darlene P. Kendrick Oatfield, 71, of Oakdale died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Oak Valley Hospital.

She was a native of Iowa and had lived in Oakdale for five years. She was a payroll supervisor at Pendleton Woolen Mills for 12 years.

She is survived by her husband, Norman Oatfield of Oakdale; children, Gerritt Oatfield of Washington, Emil Oatfield of San Francisco, Karen Conway of Kansas, Patty Mayfield of Oakdale; sisters, Wilma Peterson of Escondido; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Private services at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella. No visitation.

Emmet Nelson

Emmet N. Nelson, 86, of Oakdale died Friday, June 20, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Nelson was a native of Clark County, South Dakota. He lived in Oakdale 60 years. He owned and operated Nelson's Food Center, Oakdale for 25 years. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He belonged to the United Pentecostal Church, Riverbank and was charter member of VFW Post 2922.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Nelson of Oakdale; children, Florence Flake of LaGrange, JoElla Sargent of Jamestown, Dorothy Gage of Oakdale, Emmet Nelson, Jr. of Hughson and Rev. John Nelson of San Jose; sister, Muriel Schultz of Glendale; 14 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, June 24 at Burwood Cemetery, Escalon.

Remembrances may be sent to United Pentecostal Church, 3212 Stanislaus Street, Riverbank, CA 95367.

Arlene Dobbs

Arlene Joyce Dobbs, 67, of Oakdale died Monday, June 17, at Oak Valley Hospital.

She was a native of Oklahoma and had lived in Riverbank 10 years prior to moving to Oakdale six months ago. She was a supervisor for Del Monte Foods for 23 years and worked as a dispatcher for Oakdale Taxi for six years. Mrs. Dobbs was a member of the Church on the Hill in Sonora, First Pentecostal Church in Riverbank and the Teamsters Union.

Mrs. Dobbs is survived by her children, Judy, Michael, Terry, and Jerry Naylor, all of Oakdale; Connie Birdsong, and Carla Rice both of Sonora; sisters, Sis Allen, Nadine Walker, Ardola Keller all of Oklahoma, Carol Biegler of Washington, Linda Douglas of Delhi, Jeannie Cavitt of Bakersfield; brothers, Ralph Groover of Illinois, Randall Groover of Livingston, Roger Groover of Turlock; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Groover.

Services were conducted on Saturday, June 22, at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Park in Oakdale.

Dollie Herbert

Dollie Mae Herbert, 78, of Galt died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 at Lodi Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Herbert was a native of Goodman, Mo. She was a resident of Oakdale for 52 years prior to moving to Galt two years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Oakdale Grandmothers Club.

She is survived by her children, Rick Jackson of Galt and Garland Jackson of Missouri; sister, Mildred Dickens of Valley Home; brother, Raymond Sheehan of Norwalk; and three grandchildren.

Private cremation services were held.

Oakdale Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
