Edna E. Nolen
A funeral service was held Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home for Edna Earl Hill Nolen, 77, of Shreveport, La. She died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 at Highland Hospital.
Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Born Aug. 3, 1926, Mrs. Nolen was a native of Holly Grove, Ark., and lived in Shreveport for a month. She previously lived in Ceres for 30 years and in Modesto 15 years. Mrs. Nolen was a homemaker and member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Hughson, and the Friendly Tabernacle Church in Modesto.
She leaves behind seven children, Randy Nolen and Gail Rigdon, both of Shreveport, Don Nolen of Oakdale, Ken Nolen and Charlotte Lancaster, both of Ceres, Stan Nolen of Maryland and Debby Jackson of Turlock; her brother, Fred Hill Jr. of Antioch; her sister, Essie Beard of Antioch; and 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
John P. Bova
A funeral was held Monday at Lima Family Mortuary in Santa Clara for John P. Bova, 84, of Ceres. He died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.
Burial was at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
Born Nov. 20, 1918, Mr. Bova was a native of Hammond, La., and lived in Ceres for 33 years. He was a supervisor at a food processing plant. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He leaves behind his wife, Rosalie A. Bova of Ceres; three children, Lucille Speno of Gilroy, Vita Nevis of Campbell and Deborah Bova of Central California; and eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Laura Amaya
A Mass was held Friday at St. Jude's Catholic Church for Laura Amaya, 81, of Ceres. She died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Burial was at Ceres Memorial Park under the direction of Whitehurst, Norton & Dias Chapel.
Born April 22, 1922, Mrs. Amaya was a native of Canton Aquasaica, El Salvador, and had lived in Ceres for two years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church.
She leaves behind three children, Jose Fidel Rivas and Pedro Angel Rivas, both of Ceres, and Jose Luis Rivas of Modesto; brother, Napolion Amaya of Canton Aquasaica; and 10 grandchildren.
Romana Ibarra
Romana Aguiniga de Ibarra, 71, of Oakdale died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at Doctors Medical Center, Modesto.
A native of Mexico, she lived in Oakdale for 25 years. She worked at Hunt-Wesson Foods for 15 years.
She is survived by her husband, Jesus Ibarra of Oakdale; children, Rafael, Alfredo, Jesus, and Miguel Ibarra all of Oakdale, Jose Luis Ibarra of Bakersfield, Juan Ibarra of Riverbank, Maria Gonzales of Oakdale and Rosa Ortiz of Oakdale; sisters, Maria, Soledad and Merenciana Aguiniga all of Mexico; brothers, Victorino and Luis Aguiniga, both of Mexico; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Rosary was said on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at Oakdale Memorial Chapel. Burial to be held in Mexico. Visitation was held.

Maria Vega
Maria Nunez Vega, 57, of Oakdale died Sunday, July 27, 2003 at St. Dominic's Hospital, Manteca.
She was a native of Mexico, and lived in Oakdale for 16 years.
She is survived by her brothers, Carlos Vega and Avil Vega, both of Texas, and Fernando Vega of Riverbank.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Jila Vega and brother, Nicolas Ramirez.
A rosary was said on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Mass will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.

Neil Sparks
Neil L. Sparks, 73, of Escalon died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Sparks was a native of Elk, Calif. He lived in Escalon for one year. He owned S & S Trucking and was a truck driver for 46 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Cosiah Sparks of Escalon; children, Monty Sparks, Neil Sparks, Jr. and Lee Sparks, all of Escalon, Kay Sparks of Keyes, Marilyn Cheslik of Montana, Shirley Stewart of Windsor and Tyler Sparks of Texas; sisters, Shirley Jackson of Lakeport and Lynn Spark of Washington; brothers, Louis Bacci of Lakeport, Norman Spark of Mexico and Bill Spark of Washington; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 20 at Riverbank Memorial Chapel.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at Riverbank Memorial Chapel. Burial to follow at Burwood Cemetery, Escalon.

Benny Baca
Benny Chavez Baca, 60, of Oakdale died Saturday, March 15, 2003 at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
Mr. Baca was a native of Arizona. He lived in Oakdale for 40 years.
He is survived by his children, Tony Baca of Turlock, Scott Baca of Modesto, Sadie Baca of Escalon, Mary Baca of Los Angeles; sisters, Clara Coria of Modesto, Mary Baca of Oakdale, Maggie Baca of Turlock, Pricilla Kailies of Merced, Judy Baca of Reno, Samantha Sousa of Modesto and Della Garcia of Oakdale; brothers, Delfin Lopez of Oakdale and Leo Baca of Riverbank; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Friday, March 21 at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. Visitation was held. Oakdale Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Brown
Evelyn Clara Dunn Brown, 83, of Riverbank died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003 at Oak Valley Hospital.
She was a native of Washington. She lived in Oakland all her life, prior to moving to Riverbank four months ago. She was a homemaker. She belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oakland.
She is survived by her son, George H. Brown, Jr. of Riverbank; caregiver, Jane Dutton-Dryden of Riverbank; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Mass will be said Wednesday, Feb. 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Oakdale. No visitation.

George Gilmore Sr.
George Donald Gilmore Sr., 68, of Riverbank died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Gilmore was a native of Oklahoma. He lived in Riverbank 50 years.
He was a heavy equipment operator all his life. He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his children, Delores Ybarra of Oakdale, George Gilmore Jr., of Oregon, Glenda Gilmore of Modesto, Bobby Higle and Willie Higle, both of Ceres; sisters, Clara Cambria of Idaho, Marsha Martin of Riverbank, Sally Williams of Riverbank; brother, Donald Martin of Sacramento; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were held previously. Oakdale Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Frances B. Vick
A graveside service was held Thursday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Frances B. Killman Vick, 85, of Ceres. She died Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.
The Ceres Chapel of Franklin & Downs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Born July 14, 1917, Mrs. Vick was a native of Weatherford, Texas and lived in the Ceres-Modesto area for 51 years. She was a homemaker.
She leaves behind three children, Ernest G. Vick of Sutter Creek, Donald R. Vick of San Jose and Patricia Jackson of Pleasant Grove, Utah; and 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister; and a brother.
Marc Nichols
A funeral was held at Neighborhood Church for Marc A. Nichols, 40, of Modesto. He died Monday, July 28.
Born July 27, 1963, Mr. Nichols was a native of San Jose and had lived in Modesto all his life. He was a maintenance supervisor. He worked at Modesto Christian School for five years and worked in maintenance at Calvary Temple for 15 years, and had also worked as an on-call substitute for Salida Union School District. He was a member of Neighborhood Church.
Mr. Nichols leaves behind his wife, Cheryl Nichols of Modesto; three children, Alek Nichols, Markus Nichols and Jonathan Nichols, all of Modesto; two brothers, Joe Nichols of Ceres and Richard Nichols of San Jose; and six sisters, Sandy Bedolla of Modesto, Diane Nichols and Patti Nichols, both of Salinas, Jeanette Nichols of Washington, Gloria Sandoval of San Francisco and Sally Ann Tovarez of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Mike Mason
Eaton Family Funeral & Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements for Mike Mason, 54, of Waterford. He died July 24, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center.
Born April 20, 1949, Mr. Mason was a native of North Fork. He lived in Waterford for one year and previously lived in Marysville 20 years and Concord 20 years. He was an artist. He earned an associate degree from Yuba College. He was a member of the Yuba College Native American Club and was an active participant in American Indian powwows. Mr. Mason was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed motorcycles.
Mr. Mason leaves behind his parents, George and Dorothy Mason of North Fork; niece and caregiver, Diane Emmrich of Waterford; brother, Wes Mason of Santa Rosa; and sisters, Terry Wentworth of Antioch and Kathy Mason Devasher of San Diego.
