Marker, Marian R

Marian R. Marker, 98, Dover, passed away Thursday July 07, 2011 at her home in Dover.

She was born on June 8, 1913 in Chesworld, DE to the late Thomas and Lavania Ford Shackell.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for more then 50 years and taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Friendship Bible Class. She enjoyed her life as a homemaker and loved to cook for family gatherings. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles C. Marker in 2003, a daughter Pauline Frebert Haddock, four sisters Myrtle Hufford, Ester Davis, Audrey West, Lillian Tracy.

She is survived by Son, Cutis C. Marker of Dover, DE. Grandchildren, Michael C. and his wife Diane Frebert of Dover, Craig C. and his wife Nancy Marker of Townsend, Kevin S. and his wife Kelly Marker of Ashburn, VA, Karen S. and her husband Rob Frebert-Szymczak, of Middletown, Jody L. and her husband Julio Garcia, of Middletown, 10, Great grand children.

Services will be held Wed. July 13, 2011 at 2 PM in the Trader Funeral Home 12 Lotus Street Dover. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery Dover.

Friends may call also call Wed. one hour before the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be given to Wesley United Methodist Church and/ or to a charity of your choice.

Monaghan, Helen T.

Of Brandywine Hundred peacefully passed on Friday, July 1st, 2011 at Gilpin Hall. Helen was born in 1922, second child of John J. and Helen T. (Maloney) McClafferty.

Helen graduated from St. Paul's Commercial and Wilmington High School and became employed by the John J. Monaghan Company where she met the love of her life whom she later married.

Other than her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband, John J. Monaghan, Sr., her eldest daughter, Helen T. Walther, and her brother, John J. McClafferty, Jr.

Helen is survived by her children, Kathleen M., John J., Jr., Ann (Wayne Czarnota), and Rosemary McGrath (Frank); grandson, Michael P. Walther (Nicole); great granddaughters, Madelyn Helen and Samantha Grace Walther; great grandson, Michael Robert Walther; her beloved older sister, Kathleen M. Dougherty; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen and family would like to extend their appreciation to so many, in particular, the Delaware Hospice Ladies and the staff at Gilpin Hall; also her little friend, Emily Ann Moore, and our many family friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Concord Pike and Sharpley Road, Wilmington, at 11 AM on Monday, July 11th. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be private.

Instead of flowers, donations may be directed to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810 or to St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.

Ryan James Hagerty

Age 25, of Wilmington, DE died at home on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007.

Ryan was a member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Wilmington. He was a 2001 graduate of A.I. duPont High School. Ryan was an avid soccer player and played for his school team and for the Kirkwood Soccer Club. He was currently enrolled at Schilling Douglas School of Cosmetology in Newark, DE, where he put to use his creativity and artistic talents. Ryan had a zest for life and loved to be surrounded by people. His personality was contagious and he made friends everywhere he went. Ryan loved the beach and spent six months last year in Boca Raton, FL.

Ryan is survived by his loving parents, Joseph and Lorraine. He is also survived by his brother, Scott; and sisters, Jacque Wilson and her husband, Steve, and Heather Sobolewski and her husband, Jeff. Other survivors include maternal grandmother, Dorothy Przybylek; nephew Jeremy; nieces Sydney and Ryley; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Ryan is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, James and Josephine Hagerty; and his maternal grandfather, Francis Przybylek.

Please Join us in celebrating Ryans life, visitation will be held Thursday, April 12, between 6-9 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Rd., Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:30 am at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to either the Ronald McDonald House, 1901 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19805.

Semans, Harry Buck

Army

Harry Berlin "Buck" Semans, 83, Dover, passed away Wednesday July 06, 2011 at Christinia Medical Center Wilmington.

He was born on July 03, 1928 in Harrington, DE to the late Louder and Estella Larimore Semans.

He was a Charter member of V.C.F. Ruritan Club, holding all officer positions including that of Regional District Governor. He was a Master Sergeant in the Delaware National Guard. He was a 1947 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School. Buck retired from International Playtex in 1986 after 38 years in Office Service. He worked for the State of Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation at Killen's Pond for 17 years and was a licensed plumber for more than 20 years. Buck was an avid sports enthusiast playing baseball while at Caesar Rodney High School and in the Mid-Delaware league traveling the Delaware, Maryland, and VA areas. He played softball on various local Dover leagues, and with the over 65 group of Delaware Senior Olympics. He also bowled with several local Dover leagues, and enjoyed pitching horse shoes and playing volleyball with the family and friends. His hobbies were reading history, traveling, designing and remodeling homes, cooking, and his greatest joy was tending his garden, which he had every year of his life, sharing fresh vegetables with family and friends. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Stanton Chambers, Elizabeth Stanton Jester, and five brothers, Roland Stanton, Wilson Stanton, Robert Semans, Clayton Semans, and Nicholas semans.

He is survived by his Wife of 62, Ruth Darling Semans of Dover, DE. Daughter and her husband, Rebecca "Becky" and John Semans Calvert of Fort Worth, TX. Granddaughter and her husband, Jena and Brian McNatt George of Fort Worth, TX Grandson and his wife, Ryan and Micah Calvert and one great-granddaughter Parker Marie Calvert all of Amarillo, TX, together with numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and very special sister in law Frances D. Moore, and niece, June Louise Semans.

Remembrance Services will be held Monday 07/11/2011 1 PM at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery Camden, DE

Friends may also call 07/11/2011 12 noon till time of the service at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.

Conlon, Thomas Francis

Hartly – Thomas Francis Conlon II died Wednesday, July 6th; he was 72. He was born November 2nd, 1938 in New York, NY to Joseph F. Conlon and Theresa Conlon.

Tom was an active man throughout his life; he enjoyed working outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. He pursued many interests and was a passionate woodworker. He worked over thirty-four years as a High School Principal, most of that time spent at Red Bank Regional High School in Little Silver, NJ. Tom belonged to numerous organizations, including the Atlantic Highlands First Aid Squad in NJ, in which he served as a Captain; he also belonged to the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Robertsville Archers and the Delaware Christmas Tree Growers Association. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Dover. Tom and his wife established Turning Pointe Farm in Hartly, DE where they grow Christmas trees.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Rose Annmarie Rusch, and his brother, Joseph F.Conlon, Jr. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Roseann, and their children, Thomas F. Conlon III of Oceanport, NJ, Colleen Rusch and her husband Douglas of Eatontown, NJ, Theresa Gonzalez and her husband David of Hartly, DE, Raymond Conlon of West Berlin, NJ and Kathleen Conlon of Rumson, NJ. He is remembered by his grandchildren, Tracy Conlon, Thomas F. Conlon IV, Douglas Rusch, Matthew Rusch, Adrianna Gonzalez, Marissa Gonzalez, Grace Gonzalez and Amy Noel Conlon. Thomas will be deeply missed by his sisters, Virginia Hassler of Merrick, NY, Patricia Barrett of Avon, NJ and Theresa Conlon of Jersey City, NJ as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A viewing will be held Sunday, July 10th at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming DE from 1 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. Services will follow on Monday, July 11th at 11 AM at Holy Cross Church, 631 South State Street in Dover. Cremation will follow the services.

Baldwin, William

William Baldwin, of Smyrna, passed away on Tuesday July 5, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital, Wilmington. He was 86.

He was born in Baltimore, moved to DE in 1953, and was employed by Chrysler Corp., Newark, for 34 years, retiring in 1988.

He loved gardening, and enjoyed giving vegetables to friends, family and neighbors. Mr. Baldwin also raised and sold pure-bred beagles, and was a field-trial trophy winner. He also was an antique tractor trophy winner.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Iris V. Baldwin; a daughter, Sylvia Baldwin; a grandson, Jeff Baldwin; and a brother, Joe Baldwin.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday July 11 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.

Gilbert, Roger

Mr. Roger Gilbert, of Millsboro, DE passed away on Monday, July 4, 2011. He was 89 years old.

Mr. Gilbert was born in Reading, PA to the late William Henry Gilbert and Mattie Grenell. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by his first wife, Mary Lou Gilbert in 1992 and a sister, Ruth Harvey.

Roger worked for General Electric as an expediter for about 45 years. He was a decorated WW II Veteran having served in the US. Army Air Corp., and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Millsboro, a life member of the VFW, Mason Dixon Post, member of the Green Belt American Legion, and the Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Gilbert of Millsboro, Children, Maryann Hutton and her husband Tom of Tolland, CT, William Gilbert and his wife Linda of Victor, NY, Barry Gilbert and his wife, Beth of Crofton, MD, Denice Conner and her husband Gary of Mt. Aire, MD. Step-Children, Rex Evans and his wife Lynn of Stevensville, MD, and Karen Dunham and her husband Thomas of Germantown, MD. A sister, Louise Gilbert of Bryn Mar, PA. 10 Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren. Also survived by many friends and extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, July 7, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, DE, where friends may call one hour prior. Friends may also call on Wednesday, July 6 from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. Pastor Ed Kuhling will officiate. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, Delaware.
