Gale, Elizabeth V.

Elizabeth V. Gale, age 77, of Middlebury, VT, formerly of Newark, DE, died Sunday, July 21, 2002 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE.

Mrs. Gale was born on January 21, 1925 in Newark, NJ; the daughter of the late Wallace & Ruth Van Nest. She was active with the Middlebury Congregational Church in VT and she volunteered at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, VT.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, John Gale of Middlebury, VT; son, Thomas B. Gale and his wife, Nancy and their children, Allison and Shawn, all of Somerset, NJ; son, David M. Gale of Wilmington, DE; son, Kenneth L. Gale and his wife, Dr. Gail Munion and their children, Christine and Carolyn, all of Pottstown, PA; son, Donald W. Gale and his wife, Gabrielle and their child, Axel, all of Salt Lake City, UT; daughter, Elizabeth A. Kosinski and her husband, Jeff and their children, Brett and Trevor, all of Newark, DE; daughter Susan J. Gale of Middlebury, VT; and a sister, Jean Van Nest of Middlebury, VT.

Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2002 at Middlebury Congregational Church in Middlebury, VT. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Middlebury Congregational Church, PO Box 407, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Galea, Bertha E.

Bertha "Beth" Burns Galea, age 44, of Newark, DE went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Beth was employed for several years as a bus driver with the Christiana School District and the University of Delaware. She participated in bus rodeo competitions and won 1st, 2nd & 3rd places in the state; she also competed nationally. Beth was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary 8175 in Elkton, MD. She enjoyed baking peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, gardening, and her two dogs, Pumpkin and Lucky.

Beth is survived by her husband, Joseph; sisters: Terry Dawson & companion, David Simpler, Geraldine Hall, Carol Lloyd & husband, Bill; step-daughter, Rosemarie Nichole Galea; step-brother, David Gill; nieces, Karen Davis & Mary McLennan; nephews, Jim Dawson & Harry Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron & Frances Burns, Jr.; step-mother, Ethel Burns; and nephews, David Dawson & Mark Thompson.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, February 25, 2008 at Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 from 7-9 pm followed by a service in celebration of Beth's life on Tuesday, February 26th at the funeral home at 11 am. Burial will follow at Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton, MD.

Gallagher-Gryzik, Mary

Mary Gallagher-Gryzik of Clayton, Delaware, formerly of Coaldale, Pennsylvania, died at home Thursday December 20, 2001.

She was 49.

Mrs. Gryzik was born September 6, 1952 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John P. and Anne Marie Burns Gallagher of Coaldale, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Gryzik worked for the State of Delaware as an Administrative Assistant in the Department of Health and Social Services for 12 years before retiring due to disability.

She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Delaware Mentor Program.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Wayne Gryzik; 1 son, Jeff Gryzik of California; 1 daughter, Lisa Gryzik of Summer Hill, Pennsylvania; 1 brother, John Gallagher of Douglassville, Pennsylvania; 2 sisters, Patricia Gallagher of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Ann Gallagher of Coaldale, Pennsylvania and a grandson, Zachary Nikodem of Summit Hill, Pennsylvania.

Services will be Sunday December 23, 2001 at 7PM in the Gulla Funeral Chapel, 130 East Ridge Street Coaldale, Pennsylvania, where friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7PM.

Friends may also call Saturday December 22, 2001 from 7 to 9PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware Mentor Program, PO Box 11524 Wilmington, DE 19850.

LaFrancis, David Eugene

Mr. David Eugene LaFrancis Sr. died unexpectedly Thursday, May 9, 2002.

He was born on September 12, 1946 in Rutland Vermont. He served in the U.S. Navy on mine sweepers and received the National Defense Service Medal. Mr. LaFrancis was employed for over 10 years at Motiva Enterprises and was a proud member of Teamsters Local 326.

Mr. LaFrancis is survived by his wife Deborah; 2 daughters, Lisa Althoff and her husband Ron of Newark, and Sherry LaFrancis of New Castle; his son David E. LaFrancis, Jr. of Newark; a sister, Shirley Bellinger of Brookneal, VA; 3 brothers, Frenchy and Ronald LaFrancis of Pennsylvania and Jeffrey LaFrancis of Wilmington; 3 grandchildren, Victoria, Andrew and Nickolas Althoff of Newark. In addition, he is survived by his in-laws, Michael and Sandra Suber and his former spouse, Shirley LaFrancis, as well as an extended family consisting of many nieces and nephews, “Little Bit”, and a host of good friends in addition to his “adopted” family - all those he welcomed into his home.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at R. T. FOARD & JONES FUNERAL HOME, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE where friends may call one hour prior.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cardiac Care Unit of Christiana Hospital c/o the funeral home.

Fallers, Joseph R.

Joseph R. Fallers, age 75, of Wilmington, died at Christiana Hospital on Sunday, March 31, 2002 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Fallers was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1984 after 30 years of service. He was a Naval Veteran of World War II. A sports enthusiast, Mr. Fallers was also a baseball umpire.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 48 years, Marie (Murphy) Fallers, two daughters, Diane Casho of Chesapeake City, MD and Doreen Bustamante of New Castle; a son, Dennis of Pike Creek; five grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer, Nicole, Robert, Jr. and Kathleen; and a great grandson, Lawrence. He is also survived by two brothers, James and Francis Fallers, and a sister, Marie Short, all of Wilmington. He was predeceased by a brother, Reverend Paul Fallers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday morning at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, 6th and Pine Streets, Wilmington. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday evening, 6 - 8 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Mary’s Church, 6th and Pine Streets, Wilmington, DE 19801.

MacDowell, Morgan Ashleigh

Morgan Ashleigh MacDowell

Morgan Ashleigh MacDowell age 7, of Hockessin, DE went to be with the angels on Friday, November 28, 2003.

Morgan was a first grade student at Heritage Elementary School on Skyline Drive and was known for her smile. She was a member of Brownie Troop #1224 and enjoyed playing with her brother, her pets and arts and crafts.

She is survived by her mother, Leigh Mathe of Hockessin; her father, James MacDowell of Bear, DE; her brother, Andrew T. MacDowell, at home; her maternal grandmother, Dorie Galloway of West Grove, PA; her paternal grandmother, Barbara MacDowell of Newark, DE; her maternal great grandparents, Albert and Dorothy Bartels of West Grove, PA; her paternal great grandmother, June Embert of Newark, DE, and a loving extended family. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Frank Mathe in April 2003.

Family and friends may call at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Friday evening, December 5 from 7 - 9 pm. Family and friends are also invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 6, at 10:00 am at St. John the Beloved Church, Milltown Road. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Kirkwood Highway.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Morgan MacDowell Fund, c/o any Wilmington Trust Bank Branch.

Ann Gallagher

Of Middleboro Crest died at home on Sunday, February 16, 2003. Rest in peace.

Miss Gallagher was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Sheridan) Gallagher of Coonaroya, Ballinrobe County Mayo, Ireland. She has lived in Wilmington ever since arriving in this country in 1949 and was employed by Gulf Standard Oil until her retirement.

She was a member of the St. Matthew R. C. Church.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Gallagher of Leeds England and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Matthew's R. C. Church, Maryland and Curtis Ave., Woodcrest, on Fri. morning Feb. 21st at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the Krienen-Griffith Funeral Home, 1400 Kirkwood Hwy., Elsmere from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A recitation of the Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Interment in the Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Jablonski, Bonnie L.

Bonnie L. Jablonski, age 57, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, August 8, 2007. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing and camping. Bonnie cherished all the time that she spent with her grandchildren and Sadie. She was employed by AIG American International Group in Philadelphia, PA.

Bonnie is survived by her 2 daughters: Anita Franzoni and husband Michael; and Dawn Abrams and Michael Taylor II; 2 brothers: Richard Davis and Joseph Nardozzi; 3 sisters: Bernie Nardozzi, Rosemary Prentice and Nina Staats. 4 grandchildren: Ryan & Alex Franzoni and Rosalie & Taylor Abrams; also survived by her beloved dog, Sadie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Davis and Rosalina Springer and sister, Lisa Hornberger.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, August 13, 2007, at Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE 19713 from 10-11 am followed by a Memorial Mass at 11am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808.
