Fanning, Genevieve Etta

Genevieve Etta Fanning, age 82, of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 10, 2007. Genevieve was a dedicated Christian woman who loved to read her Bible and sing hymns. She was the glue that held the family together. Genevieve also enjoyed bird watching and writing poetry.

Genevieve leaves to cherish her memory a son Wayne T. Marcus and wife Fran; daughter Sherry Hess and husband James; 4 step children; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Fanning; 2 brothers; 3 sisters; 2 great grandchildren; and 1 step daughter.

A visitation will be held Friday, May 18, 2007 from 10-11 AM at the first Church of the Nazarene, 357 Papermill Rd., Newark, DE followed by a service in celebration of Genevieve's life at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Genevieve's memory to Nazarene World Evangelism Fund, 6410 The Paseo, Kansas City, MO 64131-1213.

Fahey, Patricia E.

Patricia E. Fahey, of Smyrna, passed away at her home on Thursday January 17, 2008. She was 65.

She was born in Claymont, the daughter of the late Frank and Eleanor Finnegan Welsh.

She worked for 42 years in advertising, a majority of which was with the News Journal as national advertising manager, and a short period of time with the Delaware State News. She retired in 2002.

She was a member of the Rotary Club while working for the Salem (NJ) Sampler; a charter member of the Duck Creek Horticulture Society; and had served as secretary of the DE Antique Truck Club.

She loved gardening, collecting antiques, and going to auctions with her companion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Welsh.

She is survived by a son, John Costello and his wife Anna, of San Diego, CA; her longtime friend and companion, Lewis Colmery, of Smyrna; two brothers, Frank Welsh and his wife Barbara, of Baltimore; and Steven Welsh and his wife, Nancy, of Wilmington; two nieces, Susanne Welsh, and Joanna Cox; and three nephews, Jaime Welsh, Frank "Tug" Welsh, and John Welsh.

Services will be held 12:00 PM Thursday January 24 at First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at the church from 10:30 AM until the time of services.

Interment will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday January 29 at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington.

Contributions may be sent to either the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Ste. 205, New Castle, DE 19720; or to Delaware Hospice Inc, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.

Arrangements are by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Smyrna.

Fair, Donald J.S.

WYOMING—Master Sgt. USAF Retired Donald J.S. Fair of Wyoming, died Thursday, April 21, 2005 in Bay health/Kent General Hospital, Milford. He was 75.

He was born on December 26, 1929 in Elizabethton, Tennessee, son of the late Samuel and Lillie Humphries Fair.

Mr. Fair served in the United States Air Force for more than 27 years, retiring in 1974. He served in Germany, France, and Korea as well as various stateside assignments and retired from Dover Air Force Base. His medals include the Berlin Airlift Device, Medal for Humane Action, Army Occupation Medal with Germany clasp, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Korea Service Medal.

Before joining the Air Force, Mr. Fair was a platen pressman for the Elizabethton Star, Elizabethton, Tennessee from 1944 to 1946.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed following current and political events. He was a past umpire with the Camden-Wyoming Little League.

Mr. Fair was a member of Air Force Sergeants Association and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Louise Fair, three daughters and their husbands Donna and Nels Berdahl of Boiling Springs, PA; Kathy Fair and Chip Scanlan of St. Pete's Beach, FL; and Margie and Tom MacLeish of Wyoming; two sons and their wives, Steve and Susi Fair of Kenton;and Fred and Kim Fair of Dover; ten grandchildren Sonja, Caitlin, Lianna, Michaela, Tom, Dan, Ryan, Sean, Brandy, and Sierra; and one great-grandchild Benjamin.

Memorial services with full military honors will be 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 100 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Dover Air Force Base Museum Foundation, 1301 Heritage Road, Dover AFB, DE 19902.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Linda Marie (Thomas) Fancher

Age 53, of Clayton, DE, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at Christiana Hospital surrounded by her family.

Born in Wilmington, Linda was a graduate of A. I. Dupont High School. Afterward, she danced for Tony Grant's "Stars of Tomorrow, Today" at the Atlantic City Steel Pier. Until her retirement, she worked as the office manager for the dental practice of Dr. Zachary Chipman and, formerly, Dr. Robert Rosen. She was predeceased by her father, Clarence Thomas, her stepfather, James Sterlie, and her nephew, Ryan James Brown.

Linda will be dearly missed by her husband of 33 years, Robert G. Fancher; her daughter and son-in-law, Casey Renee and Rodney Hahn of Norfolk, VA; her son, Joshua Jake Fancher of Clayton, DE; her granddaughter, Greta Rae Hahn; her mother and stepfather, Germaine (Cirigliano) and Charles Simmons of Wilmington; her brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Diane Thomas; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmella and Keith April of New Hampshire and Theresa and Jim Brown of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to visitation on Monday, May 14th between 10 and 11 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.

King, Lawrence Wayne

Lawrence Wayne King of Dover, Age 75, died on Thursday January 27, 2011 at Kent General / Bay Health Hospital in Dover.'

He was born on December 22, 1935 to the late Walter Preston and Elmira Thompson King.

He worked for Sharp's Market in Dover for 30 years as a clerk and meat cutter and Sharon Hills Memorial Park Cemetery for 15 plus years as a groundskeeper before retiring.

Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing, mowing grass and word puzzles.

Most of his relatives and friends will remember him for telling jokes and old stories.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Edward King.

Mr. King is survived by his sister Mary Louise Lyon, Dover.

Nephews Michael Lyon and his wife Ann.

Glenn Lyon and his wife Dawn both of Dover

Niece: Patricia Connors and her husband Steve of Hartly.

Several great nieces and nephews and great-great nephew.

Burial and services will be at the convenience of the family.'

Robert John Fangman

(Bobby - Bob - Rob)

Age 33, of Chelsea, MA, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware died September 11, 2001 aboard United Flight #175, the second airplane involved in the devastating act of terrorism against our country at the World Trade Center Building in New York City.

Bob was born and reared in Claymont, Delaware, a graduate of Claymont High School and a student of the University of Delaware. He had joined United Airlines as a flight attendant in November, 2000, and was based out of Boston, MA.

Bob was the loving son of Ruth M. Fangman and the late Paul A. Fangman of Claymont, DE. He will be dearly missed by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Marty and Kristy Fangman of Keller, TX, Michael and Maria Fangman of Greensboro, NC, Steven Fangman of Newark, DE, Debbie Fangman and Greg Kruszewski of Wilmington, DE, Terri and Rich Frakes of Charlottesville, VA, and Carole and Mike Ricci of Boothwyn, PA.

He was also a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews, Haley, Jennifer, Stevie, Lindsay, Michael, Hajdeja, and Tom and to his great niece, Madison and great nephews, Kyle and Myles. He also leaves behind a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers who loved him for the kind, loving, caring and compassionate soul that he was.

Friends and family are invited to attend an outdoor Memorial Celebration of Bob’s life on Sunday, September 16, beginning at 1:00 pm, at 500 Way Road, Greenville, DE. Please dress casually. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions in Bob’s name to the American Red Cross, 100 West 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. Arrangements by Mealey Funeral Homes.
