Rosemarie A. Justison

Age 76, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Heartland Hospice House.

Born in Wilmington, RoseMarie was the daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine Widzgowski. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School and worked as a legal secretary before staying home to raise her family. Her hobbies included reading, travelling, and watching golf, tennis and baseball.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 52 years, Joseph Justison; her daughters, Julie Phillips of Claymont, DE and Karen Rhodes of Rehoboth Beach, DE, and Kathy Viscount of Middletown, DE; her stepsons, Paul Justison of California and Kenny Justison of Virginia; and five grandchildren, Frazier Jr., Greg, Amber, Aubree and James.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 25th at 10:30 AM at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, where visitation will begin after 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.

James D. Carr

Age 68, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Northeast, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 surrounded by his family and loved ones.

Jim was born in Springfield, MA. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy and worked for the US Postal Service for several years before his retirement. He was recently predeceased by his mother, Marjorie Carr in April.

He is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Blackwell) Carr; his daughters, Andrea Young and Christine Carr; and three grandchildren, Branda, Harley, and Axl. Also surviving are his sisters, Kathleen King and Margaret Mercante and her husband, Frank; and his brother, Thomas Carr and his wife, Ginny.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 28th at 11 AM at St. Matthew's Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest, where visitation will begin after 10 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

Joseph Resende

Age 85, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 13, 2011 surrounded by his family.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Joseph was the son of the late Arlindo and Florinda (DosAnjos) Resende. He served his country proudly during World War II in the European theater as a member of Company K, 259th Infantry, 65th Division. Afterwards, he worked for the US Postal Service as a registry clerk, retiring in 1986 after 32 years of service. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Church and a life member of the VFW. He was a volunteer for Mended Hearts and a driver for the Road to Recovery. His hobbies included photography, handyman, and landlord, but mostly, he enjoyed being with his family.

Joseph will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 years, Rose O. (Salgado) Resende; two sons, Joseph Edward and his wife Nancy of Alexandria, VA and David Steven of Wilmington; and a niece, Rose DeFerro of Mt. Laurel, NJ.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday, January 21st between 9 and 10:30 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road at 11 AM. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Calaceto, Anthony William

Anthony William Calaceto "Tony", 83, of Wilmington passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Christiana Hospital surrounded by his family.

Anthony was born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Assunta (Giammusso) and Agostino Calaceto. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post #829 in Stanton. He was a former member of St. John the Beloved Church. In Addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Gelosi.

Tony retired in 1989 after 30 years as a banker with the Bank of New York. After his retirement, being an avid golfer he worked as a starter and ranger at the Delcastle Golf Club for 20 years. Word has it, that he was a favorite of the Delcastle Ladies Group.

Tony and his wife, Anna (Pellegrino) Calaceto just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 8, 2010. In addition to his wife, Tony is survived by his daughter, Lorraine Gantt and her husband, Stewart - Tony's beloved/favorite son-in-law, of New London, PA; his sisters, Agatha "Dolly" Hobbs and her husband, Ted of Clearwater, FL and Helen Crane of Ft. Myers, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 10 AM. atSt. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Friends may call at the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Burial in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, August 17th.. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Leukemia and Lymphona Foundation, 100 W. 10th St., Wilmington, DE 19801.

Perry David Smyth

Passed away on January 11, 2011 at the Compassionate Care Hospice in St. Francis Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Wilmington on January 20, 1941 to the late William John Smyth and L. Audress Reese Smyth. He was preceded in death by his sister Eleanor Lee Smyth and his brother William John Smyth, Jr. He is survived by his sister, Linda Smyth Rybinski and her husband Albert Rybinski, his niece Karen Rybinski, and his loving nephew James McKean Smyth III and his wife Janet Mumper Smyth, and many great nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Wilmington High School, Class of 1959, and from the University of Delaware, Class of 1964 as a civil engineer. His career started at Richardson Engineering and finished 30 years at Del DOT.

Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service on Wednesday, January 19th at 7 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where visitation will begin after 6 PM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 702B Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.

Margaret Forrest Griffith

Age 78, of Wilmington, DE, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Chester, PA, Margaret was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Alice (Tansey) Forrest. She worked as an administrative assistant for the DuPont Company until her retirement. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Griffith and her sister, Alice Forrest Bailey

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy P. Hinkelman and her husband, Tom Mergenthaler of Hockessin; her son, Stephen M. Pilling of Upland, PA; a brother Harry C. Forrest; her grandson, Thomas R. Mergenthaler; nieces Karen Bailey Tokarz, Grethen Bailey Rachko, and nephews Curtis Forrest and Scott T. Forrest, MD.

A celebration of Margaret's life will be held on Saturday, October 23rd at 11:30 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.

Donofrio, Florence K.

Florence Katherine (Ceci) Donofrio aged 88 died suddenly after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born to Romano and Erselia Ceci on March 14, 1922, she was a life-long resident of Wilmington. She attended Wilmington High School where she graduated with distinction at the age of 16 and remained close friends with many of her schoolmates by attending nearly every class reunion. Like her husband, Al, she was an avid golfer and founded the Ladies Golf League at Porky Oliver’s where she served as President for many years. She enjoyed playing the slots at Delaware Park, travelling with friends and senior groups, and took great joy in cooking Sunday dinners for her family. She was a volunteer worker at the St. Anthony’s Italian Festival for over 30 years, where she first met and fell in love with her husband when it was then a considerably smaller affair and known as the St. Anthony’s “Carnival”. She was a member of the St. John’s Athletic Association and volunteer at their yearly festival for over 25 years, and was a faithful volunteer at the Wilmington Flower Market. She worked in retail sales at Robert Hall Clothes for 24 years where she was honored as the Top Sales Representative on many occasions. Like many women of her time, she traded flowers and dresses for a welder’s mask and overalls at the Sun Shipyards during the war effort.

Survived by her devoted husband, best friend and constant companion, Alfred Donofrio of Wilmington, they were to celebrate 70 years of marriage this October. She was preceded in death by son Alfred Donofrio and his wife Harriett of Frederica DE, brothers John, Anthony & Navio Ceci, sisters Josephine Mele, Marie Ciotti and Enis Falco . She is survived by daughter Lori Donofrio of Wilmington; son David Donofrio and his wife Barbara of Scotts Valley California, and brother Peter Ceci of Wilmington, DE. Also survived by her dearly loved grandchildren, Donna Kinzel of Garnet Valley PA; Stephen Quisenberry of Gleneld MD; Jennifer Donofrio of Seattle WA; Adrian Donofrio of Wilmington; David Donofrio of San Francisco CA; and Ashley Donofrio of Santa Cruz CA. She adored the love and affection given by her great grandchildren Emily, Matthew, Justin, Katie, Dominic and Giada.

Family and friends are invited to her viewing 10:30-12:30 followed by a funeral mass at 12:30 held at St. John the Beloved on Milltown Rd in Wilmington. Entombment at Cathedral Cemetery.

Keir, Jack C.

KEIR, Jack C., Ph.D., age 92, of North Hartland, Vermont and Bradenton, Florida, an energetic and innovative entrepreneur and professor, died on August 30, 2010, at his daughter's home in Wilmington, Delaware. He is survived by a wife Anne Haurilick Keir of North Hartland, daughter Rosalind Freeman of Wilmington, DE, son John Keir of Plymouth Meeting, PA, daughter Henrietta Nye of Middletown, Ohio, step-daughter Sherry Wood, step-son Steven Wood, seven grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. He was a graduate of Windsor High School, Middlebury College, and Tufts College. During World War II, he was stationed in the Pacific and then after the war he served in Germany as part of the reconstruction effort. After leaving the army, he taught in the business school at Kansas State College. He received his PhD in Insurance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Keir became a Dean of The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, and later was a professor of insurance at Temple University. He was the founder and president of Keir Educational Resources, a publishing company for the financial services industry. Throughout his life, he was an avid tennis player and enjoyed fishing. He was a major force and contributor to the construction of Blueberry Lake for the Town of Warren, Vermont. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Windsor, Vermont on September 7, 2010, at 11:00AM. Interment will be at the Ascutney Mountain Cemetery, Windsor, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association.

Walter Wienkowitz

(Wink)

Aged 85, passed away at home on Friday September 17, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late John and Anna (Kupchik) Wienkowitz of Wilmington, DE. Walter is preceded in death by his wife Garnet Wienkowitz; brothers John, Mitchell and Michael; and sisters Stella Barthoff and Mary Jankowski.

He is survived by brothers, Stephen and Peter (Melba), sisters, Anna Panco and Jennie Angeline. Also his children and their families: daughter, Alice Dennis and her husband Ken; son, Joe and his wife Anne, and daughter, Lori Parker. Grandchildren, Edward Soccorso, his wife Jenni, and their three daughters, Owen, Ruthie, and Milly. Jodi Collins, her husband Ian Thompson, and their three children, Bryanna, Amber, and Andrew. Heather Black and her husband Dan; Michael Johnson, Marc Wienkowitz, and Erica Lewis. Walter is also survived by his beloved partner and companion, Barbara Tjaden.

Walter was a navy veteran and proudly served our country in WWII.

Walter ("Wink") was a charismatic man who was known and loved by many. He was a self-made man, forming D&W; Mason Contractors, Inc. with his partner, Peter Disantis; the company is now carried on by his son, Joe. Wink's great hobby was Thoroughbred Horse Racing, he was well- known as an avid horseman at Delaware Park. Wink also enjoyed bowling and was an extraordinary dancer. Though he displayed quite a stubborn streak throughout his life, Wink enjoyed good friends, good times, and many laughs. He was always in on a joke, and we promise to keep laughing in honor of his memory.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 1 pm at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Rds., Wilmington. Calling hours will begin at 11 am. Interment will be private.
